discutio: (smile from a veil)

[That earned a slight laugh, Ignis shaking his head. Not bloody likely, so far as he was concerned.]

One of Noctis' ancestors, dating back before the kingdom's founding...was a man who sought to save our world from the daemons which plagued it. He did this by accumulating the darkness and illness that caused mortals to become mindless monsters, healing the afflicted and carrying it in place of them.

[Hemera came over to Ignis' other side, sitting with him in place of Aurora who was clearly preoccupied.]

The limited accounts my research uncovered are...incomplete, to say the least. The events of two thousand years ago were largely erased and forgotten, but what is known is that the healer was denounced as corrupted, sealed away and the kingdom given to his younger brother. That was two thousand years ago.

...Needless to say, when we finally met him that healer was a monster with scarcely any trace of humanity to him. Naught but spite and sadism, the latter of which we came to know far too well. Much like Cyrus, it was he who brought our world to its near ending--unlike Cyrus, there were no twisted good intentions gone wrong. He'd become the daemon he was condemned as, with not the slightest concern for things like 'collateral damage' or 'not committing genocide'.

[Ignis sighed, taking off his glasses to press a hand to his eyes--the sure sign that he was well beyond exhausted.]

But Noctis said something once that I can't help recalling when I think of what we're to face next. 'He's been living a long time--in a world he could share with no one.' That only he could deliver his own ancestor from the darkness he'd chosen to live in.

...I'll never forgive what Ardyn's done to my friends, to our world, to Noctis or to myself. He's tormented people I care about, killed countless innocents, and nearly brought Eos to a state it can't recover from all while enjoying every minute of it. But with all that's passed since we awoke back in Veilstone, I've caught myself wondering if things would have taken another path entirely if someone had extended a hand and known enough to acknowledge 'the way the world treated you was unfair'.

I don't know if it would have saved Ardyn and more importantly Noctis himself in turn. Yet the optimistic side I wasn't aware I had wants to know if that should be something Cyrus needs to hear.
