Having had such a positive experience in Veilstone's gym, and wanting to follow Maylene's advice of daily training as earnestly as she could, Rey has awoken early on Monday morning and headed enthusiastically over to Eterna City's gym. She's put her new Pokemon - Cleffa - into a pokeball for now, but her Golett and Riolu are by her side, as per usual. The former even looks to be bouncing with a little bit of energy, if you squint.
Rey was expecting to find the same equipment featured in Maylene's gym inside this new one, so the brief flashes of green she's getting as she peers through the doors are...confusing, to say the least. They don't dampen her enthusiasm, however, and with a bit of elbow grease - aided by her Pokemon - she manages to pry the doors open, to be greeted by...]
...it's...it's full of flowers...
[...a dream.
Where others might see a garden long neglected, Rey sees nothing but beauty; she wanders inside, dazed, running her fingers over the seemingly endless variety of flowers and plants coating the interior of Gardenia's gym. In front of her, Golett walks ahead, seemingly determined to check the place for threats so its trainer can admire the greenery safely.
It doesn't take long for Rey to seat herself on one of the steps leading to the humongous flower in the heart of the gym, her legs almost collapsing beneath her. Throughout her life on Jakku, she'd always hoped - dreamed - she'd be able to see a true field of flowers one day, not just the odd spinebarrel or nightblossom that she'd bring back to her home as a reminder that even on Jakku, beauty could be found if one just looked hard enough. This...it's heaven. She never wants to leave.
Riolu wanders robotically over to her, now that she's seated, and Rey can't resist picking one of the nearby flowers and holding it out to him with a smile.]
Look, Riolu. It's blue - like you.
[If you asked her later, Rey wouldn't be able to say whether or not she imagined what happened next, but as she holds the flower out to him, Riolu's eyes widen slightly, and he slowly lifts a paw towards it...
...before seeming to come to his senses, and returning his arm to his side, eyes lowering back to their neutral, soulless position. It's enough to widen Rey's smile, though, and she places the flower gently behind his ear.
Beauty truly can be found anywhere.

AFTERNOON - ANCIENT STATUE
Even though she would honestly prefer to spend the day amongst the greenery in the gym, Rey is determined to ensure she follows Maylene's advice and get her daily training in. So, later on in the afternoon, if you're spending some time admiring the odd statue on the eastern side of town, you'll probably spot her and her Pokemon standing nearby. Her Golett and Riolu are out of their pokeballs, and currently facing one another. Rey is standing behind Riolu, hands raised and clenched into determined fists.]
Alright Riolu - use Extremespeed!
[...
........
....the request earns Rey a blank stare from Riolu, and Riolu a confused look from his trainer.]
What? Don't you remember it? You know, the attack Maylene's Lucario used! The quick attack-
[That seems to have done the trick, and Rey forgets whatever else she intended to say as Riolu begins to dart towards Golett; not quite with the same amount of speed as Maylene's Lucario, but with enough to make Rey excitedly exclaim-]
Yes, that's- close enough! Now, defend yourself, Golett!
[Obediently, Golett crosses its arms over its chest, and just as Riolu makes contact-
...he crashes onto the ground, having passed through Golett's body as if it were an open door.
