WEEK 17

There are disturbances in Veilstone.

Although perhaps saying that there are disturbances in Veilstone is understating it; the first thing that's going to be immediately noticeable is the fact that there are few to no people outside of their residences. They're still there, they're definitely present in town, and it doesn't look like Team Galactic has done any mass recruitment recently; at the same time, they don't seem inclined to leave their homes unless their task is absolutely necessary.

The reasons why will soon become apparent, the longer you remain in the city; soft bursts of force will ripple across the city from time to time, and every time they do something shifts. The edges of buildings will suddenly decay, aging before your eyes into something that seems to have been abandoned for years; sometimes parts of the streets will vanish as you walk, turning into something hard and rocky, seemingly still untouched by human intervention. Occasionally the leaves will turn bright colors and drop off of the trees, only to regrow anew again almost immediately.

Perhaps most tellingly is the fact that your concept of the passage of time is no longer entirely halted - you're aware that time is certainly passing, though it's difficult to say in what direction. It's obvious now more than ever that time exists in a sort of fourth dimension, coming at the world from a different angle entirely to the more planar space that you're still not certain you're perceiving correctly; throughout all of this, the Team Galactic base remains sealed.

Whatever it is you're going to do about this, you might want to formulate a plan of some sort this week.

I mean, we kind of stand out. We should probably split up if we want to avoid that, but it's just safer to stay together at this point. Damned if you do, damned if you don't, you know?

That's true enough. Even the nice gods were pretty terrifying. This one's having some kinda fit, looks like.

I kind of hope it's not? But that looks like the most likely thing that's going on here, yeah.

Think Galactic's losing control over it, or something else?

I figure it's either that, or they're trying to experiment somehow and it's not going over too well.

I kinda wonder if Saturn's still, you know. Not dead in there.

Yeah, we haven't seen 'im, have we? Then again, you know him and his research... that or he knows we're gonna come to him and he doesn't have to go looking.

It's worked for us so far, yeah? Against...well, pretty much everyone but Cyrus, but it sounded like he had his mind made up about what he was gonna do before he even started talking to us.

Somehow I doubt that's the last we're gonna see of that guy. Not looking forward to the next time.

...How can someone just decide that the only way to make the world better is to stop it?

A bad combination of fucked up and crazy, I guess.

Then my next question is why is that so weirdly common. I mean, you'd think it wouldn't be.

You deal with a lot of that too?

Didn't used to, but then the mob kinda showed up at the door of this prison I was escorting a Federal agent to. I mean, not literally. They parachuted in instead.

Well, that sounds like the start of both an adventure and the worst day ever.

You're tellin' me. There wasn't a day after that, when I quit the force to work for Angelica, that we weren't getting shot at. By Coyotes and the Criminal Guild!

Man, I know how that goes. There's this girl Sherry that I work with? She showed up in a blaze of gunfire and a lot of goddamn stupidity, too. It wasn't the mob in her case, though, more like the fuckin' Illuminati because Americans are insane and don't do anything halfway.

Your world sounds like the most concerning thing.

[That gets a soft laugh out of him, actually, before he shrugs a bit.]

Yeah, it's kind of a worry sometimes. But it's home, I guess.

Guess we know why you take the stuff that goes on around here so well.
