Week 18.

WEEK 18 Hearthome City isn't the farthest distance away that you've traveled, but it seems that Saturn was right in telling you that it would be a good distance away from Veilstone; surrounded by forest and with the massive shadow of Mount Coronet spreading from the west, it manages to feel both massive and secluded. As usual, there's a good amount to look at, and more than enough to keep you busy; now that the flow of time has been restarted, it may feel almost like there's not enough hours in the day. Of course, that's not the only thing that's changed lately; despite the fact that there's been another one of those setbacks, it seems that overall, you've done something for the world. There's a lot more to be done, of course, but any signs of progress are good signs. Are you kidding? This is the place that stocked all of that to begin with. They're practically begging for this.

[Granted, maybe normal people don't let their Pokemon just fucking run wild. But normal Pokemon are clearly spirited enough to try.]

The Gym Leader here used to do them. I went through her stuff a few days ago.

Certainly the process used to be more orderly. ...I am going to be cleaning this up.

Was there much of interest among her things?

I found a portable DVD player with a movie from my world in it.

It's like a mini-TV that just has one recorded show on it. But it's not that cult garbage they show all the time here. Does that make sense...?

Not in anybody's residences, no. [of COURSE she doesn't go breaking into people's homes??] Elsewhere out and about, of course, but I am always too worried about touching the wrong thing to do much of anything with them...

Hmm...oh! You remember the video call Cynthia made to us, a while ago? It's like that, except that the thing on the other end might be a recording. So it isn't happening at the same time, it's just...from before. Does that make sense?

[!!! understanding future things is exciting!!! Audhulma sticks a big shiny star sticker on Emmeryn's face in some terrible combination of celebration and mischief, and Emmeryn just kind of endures it.]

So, then you have found a means for us to...watch some...recorded event from the past?

Exactly! This one is more like a play - people in costumes acting out a story. Those are called movies.

I see! Oh, I feel so silly needing all this explained... I truly am grateful for the help. It sounds like such a delightful find.

Oh, no no no! No need to feel silly - these things haven't even existed more than twenty years!

It is a pretty cool thing, though. I'm going to watch it with some people before we leave here. You should come!

[His face does that sort of skeptical half-quirk it often does when people call him things like "sweet" or "kind", but he lets it pass without comment.]

Yeah, this specific movie might be hard to get. It kinda references a lot of stuff that you wouldn't know about. But I think you can follow the gist of it anyway - just ask me if you wanna hear about something.
