Test 2.
WILLPOWER The chamber at the back of the cave is not unlike the one before it - it's large and oppressively dark, with shallow pools of water puddled on the floor. However, it isn't entirely impossible to see; off in a far corner of the cavern, there's a dim light shining pale blue, the soft glow pulsing steadily like it's keeping time, like a heartbeat. It's likely, however, that you're not going to get a good look at whatever is causing it before a voice rings out from the entrance behind you, immediately setting the Spiritombs off with loud, ringing shrieks that indicate over half a thousand souls aren't pleased with what seems to be happening here, and as the words register, you'll realize it's probably for good reason. "In the name of Team Galactic, I'm going to have to ask you all to leave. The Guardian is rightfully ours." It's immediately obvious that at the very least, the voice doesn't belong to Saturn - it's higher-pitched, belonging to a woman from the sound of it. Turning to face the source will reveal a woman in full Galactic grunt uniform; she seems young in the face and she's rather short, though she's built as though she's likely strong for her size. While she's clearly here to do a task, her eyes are noticeably just as devoid of spirit as the others that you've seen - she's just as heavily brainwashed as the rest. The Spiritombs you've encountered will do their jobs; they'll protect the Lake Guardian physically, promptly proceeding to get between it and...well, everyone else here. They aren't going to back down until the perceived threat is dealt with; they really, really don't like Team Galactic. What happens now is up to you. |

[He sounded reassuring, or at least as close as he could come to the sentiment right now.]
We don't want that either. We can do something about this, Maylene. But we need your help. Go against what Team Galactic wishes and do as your own heart desires. Rebel against them and their conditioning; and help us fight against them.
...Please. I do not wish to see another world or its people fall to ruin while awaiting its salvation.

[...Seriously, it is not for want of trying, here.]
Do you really think you can win? Against the Commanders and Cyrus, all of them.
[It's actually a genuine question, from the sound of it, and not something pointed or discouraging.]

[No hesitation, no question. Just resolve, plain and simple; as if defeat itself was a foreign language to him.]
I'll hardly claim that I expect it to be an easy victory, or that I expect we will never stumble and falter along the way. You've seen it yourself, we're ill-prepared to defeat you right now--much less the Commanders and certainly not Cyrus. But if we should fall, we'll stand again. If we should be reconditioned, we will break out of it as many times as we must.
[Ignis stood rigidly straight, taking off his visor--hiding his eyes had a place and time, and now was neither of them. How would Maylene ever understand how sincere he was unless she could see it communicated on his face?]
...I swore my loyalty to a man who would never have stood for the state of this world or the suffering of its people. So I swear to you now, no matter what it takes, before I return home I will see this done no matter how hard the fight or how many setbacks I suffer.
I know only how to move forward. Retreat isn't an option, and I will walk this path to its ending.

[...is...is that a compliment or not, it's a little hard to tell...]
But I've done a lot of hopeless fighting before. Even if we're defeated, we should learn from the defeat and come back stronger. It's our only option now.

That's all one can do. Move forward, never looking back. There is no darkness so long that the dawn fails to rise to end it.
[That didn't entirely sound like a metaphor when Ignis said it, but he ended the remark with a smile and held his hand out.]
It'll be our pleasure to help you however we're able. I think most if not all of the others will agree with me on that--limited though it is, our power is on your side.

We'll be okay, then. Eventually.
no subject
Eventually. It's certainly not a lost cause just yet.
