Test 4.
KNOWLEDGE Compared to the frigid chamber you've just left, the cavern you enter now is warm. It isn't difficult to see why; while there's still a fair amount of space in here, it's far smaller, and there's a source of heat and light in here - a small fire going near a corner of the room, tucked away behind the wall and difficult to see as you enter, but fairly obvious once you're inside, the light from the flames bouncing off the corner of the chamber and making it decidely easier to see. There thankfully aren't any more of Froslass' "sculptures" in here; there is, however, a person. Candice is in the corner near the fire, pressed back against the wall and watching you as you enter; it's likely obvious from the start that there's something wrong with her, though it's difficult to say what just from looking at her. Her eyes aren't fixed in the same sort of dull, blank stare that the people affected by Team Galactic tend to display, but at the same time, they look viscerally wrong - it's alert but it's empty and almost completely unfocused, as though she's taking in information and she's processing it, but she's not actually seeing any of it. It's unsettling, but she's still watching you, and she's holding something close to her chest as she does so; she's got the thick, blue sweater untied from around her waist, and she's holding it bundled in her arms like she's trying to protect it. Her eyes don't come into focus, even as she addresses you. "I told you that you aren't welcome here. You need to leave. Now." Her gaze darts as she speaks, like she's trying to take in as much as she can, even if she doesn't seem to be registering any of it properly; her expression is hard. Cold. What happens now is up to you. |

[...So you. See. The problem here.]

[...]
It's probably not enough that they can reasonably rehabilitate her yet, but if you and the third Lake Guardian recover, they should be capable.

[Letting her bag fall to the ground, Rin is going to kneel now and open it up, so that Uxie can see the various medicines and berries inside.]
Do you know how to use these?

You can have them, though you'll heal faster with potions. I can demonstrate how they work for you by using one on my own pokemon, so you can see with your own eyes that its safe. Rubin slipped on the ice outside earlier, so he'd be a good example.
[That's the retroactive excuse for why Rin wasn't around for the earlier part of yesterday's test. Ice puzzles are tricky! And indeed, the Sableye who trots forward at the sound of his own name does seem to have some scratches on his hands and knees.]
Afterwards, if you're satisfied by what you see, we can heal you next, or you can even treat yourself if you still don't trust us. How does that sound?

[GOD HELP US NOW WE'RE YELLING AT ZELDA BUT YES UXIE HAS NO ARGUMENT WITH YOU RIN]

Because everything Zelda says is true; what happened to Candice was wrong, and no matter what Uxie feels, that needs to be emphasized. Rin knew that, just as intimately as she knew she herself couldn't be the one to say it. Even though she's wrong, she can't condemn the feelings that caused it. That fear and resentment is justified. Continuing to hide away in here, hurting more people and refusing any means of help isn't, but Rin can't be the one to convince Uxie of that.
It had to be Zelda, or at least someone else with the same kind of heart to try and breakthrough to the Guardian.
That's why she doesn't say anything, and merely watches this back and forth carefully as she prepares the potions and medicine she'll need to treat Rubin. She won't get on that yet, not until this has been settled first and Uxie doesn't have to split its attention a million ways and fear Rin's trying to trick it or something. Yeah.
...TL;DR, WE'RE GOOD TO DEMONSTRATE. Whenever Uxie and Zelda have reached some understanding, or Rin otherwise gets the go-ahead. Until then, she's just going to watch them both with some sympathetic concern.]

It will be hard, and slow-going, but I do not doubt she would be cared for.

Truly, they are. You have my word that she will be put into responsible care. I will ensure it myself if I must—but you can see that I am not the only one concerned for her wellness.
Thank you for taking care of her all this time. It must have been so hard to be left alone to defend yourself in the wake of all that has happened.

[...Uxie, for fuck's sake.]

It is good to know you have been safe, then. [she's going to put a positive spin on every last fucking ounce of this absolute bullshittery if it kills her] We have been worried about you as well.
