[What an absolute ordeal all of that was.

Today was certainly one hell of a day, that's for sure; they've managed to take care of another Guardian and gain it's trust (or at the very least, something resembling it), they managed to find Candice and manage to...well, maybe not get her back in a state that's altogether wanted, but ensure they managed to get her at least into a place where she could possibly regain herself. It will likely be a process, as such things are, but they've done their best, and they should have no regrets.

The center is definitely going to be a welcome reprieve for all of their suffering, at the very least. The Kompot is certainly more than enough to likely get everyone warmed back up and in a stable condition, along with the copious amount of blankets the locals have provided. They've got the time to rest and get ready for their next adventure.

Rest well, ye merry band of travelers. You've earned it.]

Well... there's a story from the northern regions of my world about the local god of thunder, Thor, and the trickster god, Loki. I suppose I should say a bit more about them before we start... well, Thor's a big meathead who likes food, fighting, and that sort of thing. His most notable weapon is his mighty hammer, Mjolnir. And well... Loki is sometimes a hero, sometimes the villain, but he's always there to make things interesting, especially since he's a shapeshifter.

Hadn't Bucky said that he met them...?

But in any case, this story is about the time Thor's hammer was stolen.

Quite the feat, to steal a hammer from a god.

[ But yeah he totally did, she was scandalized at the time!! But at Kayneth's story she leans in with some obvious interest intent to learn more despite how shitty she still feels. And looks. ]

Well, the one who stole it was a being known as a Jotunn, which... well, they're occasionally referred to as ice giants, but they're generally fairly close to the gods' level. There are numerous legends about the Jotunn and the gods ending up in conflict with one another, and the gods don't always wipe the floor with them.

[ An eager nod of understanding at that. Because she knows of things like that. stories of great giants in a distant land who could hold up the moon. But she focuses intently on him, waiting for the story! ]

So, in any case... the Jotunn didn't steal Mjolnir to use for his own purposes, probably because Thor is the only one who can properly use it. No, he buried it miles underground as a bargaining tool-that is, he's willing to give it back... but only if he can be married to the goddess Freya.

[ So like stealing the Master Sword! Oh, that makes a lot of sense to her, and she nods again, clearly attentive to this story! Freya she just kinda pictures as like... one of the ancient sages. Nabooru, maybe? ]

Well, Freya didn't take this news particularly well, when Loki returned and told her about the demand. But, on the other hand, Thor was one of the most martially gifted of the gods, so it was possible Mjolnir's absence could turn the tide against them if they went to war.

So, how do you think they solved this conundrum?

Perhaps.. they would have people go in to steal the hammer back with guile?

That's a good guess, and... well, I'm honestly surprised that the plan worked. You see, it did seem like the Jotunn was going to marry someone, who was allegedly Freya, but the prospective bride was veiled to keep things interesting.

[ Ooooh, so Freya sent a stand in...? She nods ]

What a brave soul.

Of course... it probably wouldn't have gone as well if Loki hadn't been there to excuse the bride's odd behavior, like excessive eating and drinking and... well... looking deeply unfriendly when the Jotunn pulled her veil aside.

[ So not the best actress, it seems. She smiles a little at that, but waits for more!! ]

Well, anyway, the wedding does proceed, up to the point where Mjolnir is given to the bride-to-be... at which point Thor throws off his disguise and uses it to slaughter practically everyone there.

...the Norse gods always seemed like they were a bit more likely to be involved in humorous situations than the vast majority of pantheons.

Well, it's possible Loki used illusions to disguise them both.

But honestly, I prefer to think Thor just looked really good in a dress.
