Week 2.

WEEK 2.

The new week begins with new surroundings.

The city you've been growing accustomed to over the past week is now well behind you as you set out on your journey proper; the terrain still seems rocky and steep here as you move downhill and to the south, dotted here and there with small ponds to the east and rocky outcroppings that you can climb on to the west. There are also large expanses of tall grass here, and the entire route is flanked with tall trees leading off into the forest a short ways. You're more than welcome to explore; just don't stray too far from the group - you wouldn't want to be left behind out here, for any reason.

Wild Pokémon are abundant here, as anyone venturing into the tall grass will discover; they aren't inclined to attack you, however, simply watching with dull, dead eyes as you stumble through the area they've come to call home. The trip is difficult, and it's a lot of walking, but it's not unmanageable; fortunately enough, the route you're on should lead you directly to Valor Lakefront, assuming there are no complications along the way.

From Thursday and beyond, the route takes a sharp turn west; in front of you lies what's clearly the ocean, large rocks jutting out just offshore tempering the waves. It's safe to go in the water if you so choose - assuming you can swim, that is - and the forested terrain has given way to a large beach with patches of tall grass here and there.

Interestingly, there's a house located on the beach; whether it's inhabited or not is difficult to tell. Of course, exploring slightly north of the beach will reveal a path. Maybe it leads somewhere important...

CURRENT LOCATION: ROUTE 213
POKEMON AVAILABLE: NEAR WATER

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY
[OOC: Welcome to week two of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due next weekend!]

After Morning Pond Adventure

[Kiryu had been busy trying to judge if a bug net was a wise purchase when Rey appeared, her clothing wet up to the waist. Not too far from her there's a blue creature. Well then!]

Should I suppose there's some relation between all that water on you and your new teammate?

[This traveling group sure is getting larger every day!]

Unfortunately.

[Ugh, just...let her try and squeeze some of the water out of her jacket. She is...unused to being wet, and it's not all that pleasant of an experience, funnily enough.

....also is that...a net?]

Trying to obtain a new teammate yourself?

[Kiryu approaches Riolu a bit. So blue, so soaked...]

Not what I expected from a water creature.

[Looks like a canine of some sort with no fins or anything else that could make life in the water easier, but if she went into water and got out with this little pal, then it must be aquatic. Sinnoh has so many strange beings!]

Already did. I read there are insects that could be caught, so I bought this -- it's said to be traditional when catching bugs. Came with a hat. [Straw hat he puts on. He looks ridiculous, what with the rest of him wearing a suit, but Kiryu doesn't seem to mind] Raising an insect shouldn't be a problem for a beginner like me, I thought.

It didn't go like expected.

[He points aside with a thumb. A couple feet away there's an insect alright, but it's too large for the net. Heracross doesn't seem to react much, just like any other Pokemon in the world right now]

[That straw hat definitely does not go with the rest of the outfit, but Rey can't help but smile slightly. At least he's enthusiastic?]

At least you still managed to 'catch' the Pokemon? You didn't even have to go swimming to do so.

[Right, let her just...try to get some water out of her pants, as well...having deep pockets isn't great all the time, apparently...]

And I'm not sure if this really is a Water Pokemon - I had to jump in and drag it out of the pond since it looked like it was drowning.

[...

Maybe it was just a really odd swimming technique.....]

I think I would have preferred having your net.

[Kiryu can get rather enthusiastic without losing his straight face sometimes, haha]

...that'd explain why it looks nothing like what I expected from a Water Pokemon. [...] Then what is it?

[Here, Rey, have a net]

I don't think I'll need it anymore. Having more than one type in a team would mean I'd have a weakness or two.

[Says Kiryu, not realizing Heracross is also Fighting type, just like Pancham]

I'm honestly not sure, although it seems...weirdly familiar? I think I might have seen it in a book I got from the Department Store. I'll have to have a look once we settle for the night.

[She would have assumed it was a Water pokemon - thanks to the blue fur - had it not displayed a crippling lack of any swimming skills. Surely a Water Pokemon would be able to swim....or at least not be at risk of drowning when immersed in water...

At the offer of the net, though, Rey blinks in surprise.]

You're...giving it to me? But it belongs to you.

[...she is. not used to getting presents FORGIVE...THE AWKWARD....]

I don't have a need for it anymore, and it could be of use to you.

[Besides, they're all traveling together, so they have to look after each other. Cooperation!]

[....w-well. She will take that net, then. Could be useful if she finds any more drowning Pokemon.]

Are you sure you don't want anything in return? I have plenty of supplies and food.

[All of this...bargaining and pleasantly exchanging items is so unfamiliar - she's used to having to argue. This is actually kind of nice.]

I suppose anything you think could be useful for Heracross would be enough.

[Heracross looks up without much enthusiasm]

[...hmm. As she removes her backpack, Rey ponders the Heracross.]

Well, I don't know if it's much, but I do have this.

[She rummages around in her bag for a moment (there is. a lot of food in it), before pulling out what appears to be a small jar of honey. Pleased with herself, Rey offers it to Kiryu.]

Here. Bugs like sweet things, don't they? I've got a few of these, so feel free to take it.
takestheblame: 11 (11)

[personal profile] takestheblame 2018-06-13 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Honey! That'll be good. Kiryu takes the jar, actually smiling a bit for a moment]

Thank you. I guess I don't know much about bugs. Never tried to even think about them before.

[personal profile] greydients 2018-06-13 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure if that makes me happy or upset that I've thought about them a bit.

[That, and her book did mention that Bug Pokemon in particular enjoyed the taste of honey, but details...

Regardless of her comment, Rey's tone is light.]

Besides, you'll have a good excuse to now, what with your new Pokemon.

This is a time for new experiences. I didn't even have a pet before arriving here.

That makes two of us.

[Unless her temporary ownership of BB-8 counts.

...

...probably not]

The company is nice, though, even if they are rather quiet. I'm not used to constantly having someone around, so.

[personal profile] takestheblame 2018-06-14 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That will change once they recover their spirit or whatever's supposed to happen sooner or later. Could be possible the one you rescued is a chatterbox and will talk your ear off.
greydients: (★ warmth)

[personal profile] greydients 2018-06-15 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[That actually makes her laugh.]

Now that I'd like to see. I haven't gotten a sound out of it since I pulled it from the water.

Maybe your Heracross will be able to tell you what food it does and doesn't like.
