Week 2.
WEEK 2. The new week begins with new surroundings. The city you've been growing accustomed to over the past week is now well behind you as you set out on your journey proper; the terrain still seems rocky and steep here as you move downhill and to the south, dotted here and there with small ponds to the east and rocky outcroppings that you can climb on to the west. There are also large expanses of tall grass here, and the entire route is flanked with tall trees leading off into the forest a short ways. You're more than welcome to explore; just don't stray too far from the group - you wouldn't want to be left behind out here, for any reason. Wild Pokémon are abundant here, as anyone venturing into the tall grass will discover; they aren't inclined to attack you, however, simply watching with dull, dead eyes as you stumble through the area they've come to call home. The trip is difficult, and it's a lot of walking, but it's not unmanageable; fortunately enough, the route you're on should lead you directly to Valor Lakefront, assuming there are no complications along the way. From Thursday and beyond, the route takes a sharp turn west; in front of you lies what's clearly the ocean, large rocks jutting out just offshore tempering the waves. It's safe to go in the water if you so choose - assuming you can swim, that is - and the forested terrain has given way to a large beach with patches of tall grass here and there. Interestingly, there's a house located on the beach; whether it's inhabited or not is difficult to tell. Of course, exploring slightly north of the beach will reveal a path. Maybe it leads somewhere important... At some point they rest, chance Kiryu takes to explore the surrounding area. It's not silent, but the world is...pretty depressing, because everything he sees is blankly staring at him. Deciding to get into action, Kiryu returns to his supplies and picks up something he read some people use when exploring:
You'll find Kiryu in the tall grass, with a straw hat that doesn't fit at all the nice suit he's wearing, and holding a bug net in his hands. He's staring at a Pokemon some distance away: a Heracross. Kiryu looks at it, then at the net he has]
Why do they sell nets like this one when the insects are almost as big as us?
[Well maybe he got things wrong and this is a net for, say, normal everyday butterflies. Who knows -- certainly not him]

[Whenever they finally did decide to stop and rest, Ignis sat a little off to the side with his back to a tree, having taken off the coat to his uniform at some point. He didn't go very far out of his way to start a conversation, but he also wasn't exactly about to chase anyone off if they approached him.]

He maintains a position around the middle or the back of the group while they walk; keeping everybody more or less within eyesight seems important to him, and he'll hang back if he notices anyone getting sidetracked. It's a way to keep busy. Even so, this is a lot of time without much to do, so Michael will also work on training his Pokemon during the walk! The Purrloin seems a little more active lately: she'll pick up her pace to easily keep alongside Michael while they go, and darts forward to face wild Pokemon directly instead of having to be placed there.]
Okay, Cat Janet. Do the thing.
[They've been working on condensing some battle commands; in this case, "do the thing" seems to translate to "kick sand in its face and then use Double Team a few times before it recovers". After that, it's usually easy to scratch the enemy into submission. Fair fights are overrated.
This strategy seems to work well enough. Cat Janet still takes hits, of course, but she successfully takes down quite a few wild Pokemon, before they meet with an obstacle in the shape of a colorful and weird-looking parrot. It shakes off the Sand Attack without fuss, and immediately pinpoints which of the several Purrloins is the real one, pecking Cat Janet in the head. Michael frowns and keeps the battle going, watching as Chatot picks out the right opponent without fail, over and over.]
Huh. Interesting.
[He doesn't so much end the battle as walk over and pick the Chatot up, holding it gently in both hands as if to keep it from flying away. Not that it's trying; it just hangs out while he looks it over.
That evening, Chatot is still here when everyone settles down for dinner. Michael gets both of them some Pokémon food, then sits and eats whatever someone else has cooked.]
So, are we going to start hunting Pokémon for food at some point? Apparently people do.

[ A short distance from the group Johan's set up a little space for himself. It isn't a camp outright—there's no fire, no logs or other materials, but there is a small folded-up blanket! Which... he isn't sitting on. Instead, there are seven cards placed carefully on it. The cards fit perfectly on it and he and Inkay are sitting on opposite sides of it.
The way he sees it, if they're resting then he should take this time to get to know his Inkay a little better. And introduce his family, since after the incident he found his deck and spent most of his time calling for the Crystal Beasts and didn't get a chance to do it. Right now, he's picking up one of the cards and showing it to the Inkay. ] And this is Sapphire Pegasus! He's the leader of the group, and he's great at giving advice. He always seems to know what to do and what to say no matter what the situation is. Uh, let's see...
[ Johan sets down the card to pick up another one. Again, he holds it up for the Inkay. ] And this is Emerald Turtle. See this? That's his defense! He's really sturdy, so he's tough to take down— [ Before he can say another word, the Inkay slowly moves forward and gives the card a very gentle headbutt. Johan pauses before laughing gently. ] Sorry, Inkay! But if you want to fight him, you're gonna have to wait until I get my Duel Disk back.

[ Since Johan's got energy to spare it's time to explore! He's going to go... well, not far, but he's sure not paying much attention to how much distance he's putting between himself and the group. By the time he stops looking around and feeding every Pokemon he finds, he's reached the plains! While he's encountered a decent amount of Pokemon up to this point, this one in particular makes him stop. ] Amazing...! [ Immediately, Johan runs up to the Ponyta and stands in front of it. ] You're amazing!
[ Predictably, the Ponyta offers no response. Undeterred, he reaches into his bag and pulls out a few berries for the Ponyta. It obediently comes closer and munches on them. ] I thought you might like those. [ He smiles! ] Are we really supposed to be fighting all of them? I'm a little tempted to try, but when they don't have any fight in them it seems a little cruel.

Golett remains silently following her, as always, although occasionally - if Rey's eyes aren't deceiving her - it adjusts the beanie it's wearing on its head every time they pass a body of water in which it can admire its reflection. Hmm.
It's when Golett stops in front of one of those ponds, adjusting its hat, that Rey's adventure really begins to get interesting - the surface of the pond, calm when Golett walked over to it, has started to tremble.]
...Golett, get back-!
[There's no time for Golett to step back as a Pokemon crashes through the surface of the water, and Rey throws off her pack to sprint over and try to protect it-
...only to be greeted to the sight of a small blue Pokemon desperately flailing around, doing no damage to Golett other than splashing it as it thrashes in the water, gasping for air. The entire exercise seems to only take a second - before Rey can even process what she's seeing, the Pokemon disappears under the surface again.]
...it can't swim...! Golett, move!
[It's when she's already knee-deep in the water that Rey remembers she can't swim either, but fortunately, the pond's deepest point - where the little Pokemon is stuck - only reaches her waist, and she manages to pull it free of the water and drag it up to the bank, assisted by Golett, who seemed incredibly unwilling to immerse itself in the water. Once it's safely free of the pond, the new Pokemon continues to cough for a while, before lying back in the mud and staring blankly up at the sky once its breathing has returned to normal.
Rey - now soaked up to her waist - collapses next to it.]
Well, that was fun. Are you alright?
[The little Pokemon doesn't respond, simply adjusting its gaze so it's looking right at Rey. Slowly, its two black ears start to rise. The trio fall into silence for a moment - Rey unsure how to react, Golett standing next to her - until the newcomer's pupils dilate sharply and its body twitches, ears drooping back down.
...]
...okay, well. We need to keep moving, so you take care of yourself, alright? No more swimming in strange ponds.
[As Rey and Golett move to leave, the new Pokemon also rises to its feet, waiting expectently for them to walk away. As they start to, it immediately follows.]
...I didn't say you could come with us....!
[Should you want to interact with Rey, you can talk with her immediately after she returns from her morning pond adventure, throughout the afternoon as you all march along, or finally, during dinner, where you'll find her excitedly flicking through the book of Pokemon she found in the Veilstone Department store, her two Pokemon silently sitting by her side.]

Today's certainly no different, and Yuri tends to be all over the place within the group - sometimes he's in the front, scouring ahead and sometimes he's in the very back, keeping an eye on everyone to make sure no one's falling behind. He's definitely full of energy and no matter where he is, his Rockruff is keeping pace at his side.
He does enjoy battling wild Pokémon, however, which is usually what distracts him. Roc's really taken a shine to it too, actually, and whenever one of them catches sight of something they haven't fought before, they'll stray from the path to take it on.]
Hey, did you see that, Roc?
[The dog barks in acknowledgement and they're suddenly veering off the path into the tall grass. What they've found is a large green Pokémon complete with blades for arms. So of course Yuri's fascinated with it.]
Let's go, Roc! Use Tackle!
[...He's still learning how to do this Pokémon thing, alright. Anyway, after a fierce handwaved battle, Scyther drops to one knee and Yuri fishes in his backpack for a Pokéball.]
Okay, so you just throw the ball at it? Sure, let's see if this works.
[And here we go! After wiggling for a moment, the button on the center of the ball clicks and it stops moving.]
Would you look at that. Congrats, Roc. Looks like we've got ourselves a new companion.
[The dog's back to looking bored as usual, but Yuri pats her on the head anyway and goes to retrieve the Pokéball.
Later on in the evening once everyone's stopped for the night, you can find Yuri parked a little further out. He's kept the Scyther in the ball all day, but he finally lets the Pokémon out. He's still damaged from the battle, but Yuri's got a Potion! The only problem is... uh...]

He didn't sleep much in the Center, either, but it'd been easier there - not for comfort reasons, but rather because the Center was simple. One way in, one way out. If someone came in, he'd know about it. Outside, though... Outside there's a sense of hypervigilance pounding through his system that he can't shake off, especially since he doesn't have his weapons. He doesn't need the guns, but the weight of them was always comforting, and...
And, well, sleeping is out of the question, and morning finds him perched on one of those rock outcroppings, absently petting his Houndour and keeping an eye on the place the others decided to settle for the night, because we may not have set up an official watch but he's going to keep an eye on the place anyway.
He'll stay up there until everyone's ready to leave proper; he'll be sticking to the high ground for most of the morning until told to do otherwise, just because he likes it better up there. He seems to be having no trouble with the terrain, jumping from outcropping to outcropping easily; Lobanja follows him, because what the hell is self-preservation when one doesn't have feelings, and for the time being the adrenaline that comes with doing it is going a long way toward keeping Jake awake for now.
He'll be fine for today, but he's going to sleep really hard tonight, he can tell already.
That said, whenever a break is taken in the afternoon he can be found sitting off against a tree at the edge of the route, playing with that translucent blue cube he got from the warehouse. Apparently if it's flicked in certain ways it'll click open, revealing a few different displays amid softly glowing blue light; he seems to be looking for one in particular.]

Her Beldum floats behind her all day. Through the day, before the group makes camp, she spends most of her time foraging while on route. Picking up mushrooms or berries, figs, or other such plants which look of interest, taking pictures of other ones with her Sheikah Slate, and putting them all in a bag. She'll have the test these as she goes in small amounts, or check them against the field guides she acquired in the city, but... Well, it's probably for the best to get a grip on these!
Though around midday she does find a curious black head poking out of a bush she's near. She stares at it... curious. And then to her surprise, the Beldum floats in too, also curious looking, just a little, breaking through the apathy. She tilts her head and leans in, and the face opens it's mouth. ... Uh. ... Maybe she'll hand the face an oran berry...? ... The face then starts to bite down, and then doesn't. There's a rustling in the bushes...! ... ! Oh wow! ... That sure isa head attached to the body of something with another head. And it's the other head which is going to get the berry.
... Later in the night at camp, Zelda is actually real tired, having gotten up earlier in the day. But here in then might, her Beldum floating near her and her smiling at it, she's writing... names? On a little notepad. ]
... A variation on Saria doesn't really suit you, does it. Nor Rauru ... Fado, perhaps?
[ Mmm. This is apparently a Thing. ]

[That is a yellow creature. She gasps, fumbling for her backpack.]
Ichigo, use Pound, but not too hard, okay?
[The Audino seems to listen, at least, giving Pichu a bonk on the head. Aya braces herself, tosses a Pokeball, and catches it.]
Good job!
[Later that day, you can catch her on the road, or before bed. The latter will have her trying to bond with her new Pichu, though her Audino isn't too far off.]

In the afternoon, Camilla can be seen fairly close to Arion, seeming...a tiny bit concerned? Arion is following the group easily enough, even if he's starting to bump into things. It's when they have a chance to take a break that Camilla's sitting under a tree with Arion, his little blanket set up so he can rest on it while she fishes out a potion.]
Oh, I should have cut those dreadful bangs off when I had the chance... [She hasn't exactly had the chance to since they set off, really.] Don't you worry, dear, I should have an extra pair of scissors in here, so allow me to just--
[Camilla attempts to run a hand underneath the Deino's bangs, only to be...well, greeted with a very lacking sight that she can't say she was expecting.]
...You don't have any way to see...?
[Well that's. A thing, to be certain.]
Oh, darling, I'm so sorry. If I'd known that, I wouldn't have let you walk and keep bumping into everything. [Poor thing.] For now, let's get those bumps and bruises taken care of...
[Of course, the very second she actually starts applying the potion sees Arion growling and actually managing to bite Camilla's sleeve. It's a shock, to be certain, and Camilla tries to get it out of Arion's mouth before it tears.]
Arion, you stop that this instant! You're going to tear it!
[The evening sees the duo a lot calmer as they take a rest elsewhere. Of course, Camilla herself isn't quite as calm; she's just the slightest bit antsy if you catch her while she's sitting down and feeding her Pokemon, but it's a little later on that she wanders a bit. Keeping close to the camp, at least, but it looks like she's keeping some sort of watch as she holds onto Arion.]
Oh, what I wouldn't give to be able to take to the air...
[Once she comes across a tree, however, a small idea seems to pop into her head. It's certainly something never quite tried before...but...
...Camilla looks to the left, and then she looks to the right, mostly to see if anyone's around. Once she puts Arion back in his ball, she's gonna do it. She's gonna climb a goddamn tree. It'll definitely be a little slow going, but god is she gonna try.]

Eventually, she picks up the Pokemon and decides to rest at a pond. Wash her face, get some new makeup on she bought at the department store, though it's definitely not what she's used to. She then seems to work on her nails with a manicure kit she got at the incident, allowing the Bounsweet to rest in her lap in the meantime.
Later in the day, she finds herself in the plains because she couldn't help but follow a cute rabbitlike pokemon. Well, something adorable should be on her team, right? So she should probably battle it.]
You up for a fight?
[She looks at her Bounsweet, obviously not going to force it, but since they're battling creatures, she instantly goes after the Buneary.
Maybe it was a fight, maybe it wasn't, but Alice catches the darling thing. Of course, these cuties probably aren't accessories, but how does someone say no to them?
Eventually, in the evening she joins everyone for dinner simply relaxing, though she looks pretty pensive. People have probably learned that despite how she acts, Alice prefers to be left by herself, and has no problem with that. Probably not the best thing to do when one is in a group, but eh. It's part of her nature.
At least she has her two pokemon cuddling up to her.]

He's another early riser, up at pretty much the crack of dawn and packing his things for another day of travel. He's wearing the outfit he got from the warehouse today, though it may have become noticeable to some that almost all of the his shirts are backless at this point. An odd fashion choice considering the climate, but he doesn't seem the slightest bit uncomfortable.
As others begin to stir in the morning, Eustace takes some time to feed his Mimikyu, Rose, some breakfast. He bought a couple different kinds of Pokemon food back in Veilstone, and for every meal he has put one pellet of each in front of Rose in an attempt to let her experiment and choose a favorite. Most attempts have ended in her just staring blankly at the pellets through the holes of her costume and Eustace picking one for her to make sure she'll eat. But today is a little different.
After Eustace sets up the pellets, the bottom of Rose's costume lifts up and a shadowy claw-like tendril snakes across the ground, hovering above each pellet in consideration. Before long, a piece has been broken off of each and drawn back up into the costume. Two pellets get finished off.
Eustace can't help but crack a small smile. Progress is progress.]
Those ones, huh? All right. Have some more.
[Afternoon brings more exploration as the journey resumes. Eustace is scouring some of the rocky outcrops with Rose, checking for possible dangers and looking to see if they can come across some new Pokemon. One particular (and seemingly uninteresting) ledge catches Eustace's attention, so much that he actually stops to observe it for a minute. Out of nowhere, he points to a specific boulder on the ledge.]
Scratch.
[A command for Rose, which she obediently follows. That same shadowy tendril appears from underneath the costume, but this time it stretches quite far- far enough to reach the boulder Eustace singled out and swat at it. The attack dislodges the boulder and sends it tumbling down the ledge. Surprisingly, the boulder...has arms? Eustace seems to have seen through some clever camouflage, though he doesn't make any move to capture the Pokemon and instead lets it listlessly climb back up to its perch. Some practice time, apparently?
At night, when things are winding down at the campsite, Eustace is once again sitting on the fringes where the campfire barely reaches him, this time watching the rocky ledges in the distance. His ears are straight up and his gaze is rather intense. It doesn't take much to figure out what's got him so alert: several red eyes are peering back from the shadows. The eyes don't make any sudden movements- they just...watch back, slowly swaying every so often.
Upon hearing the footsteps of anyone who comes to see what's up, Eustace finally breaks eye contact with the spooky eyes to see who approaches.]
No idea what those are.
[Maybe it's time for an investigation? It's probably nothing considering the state of the wild Pokemon, but it couldn't hurt...]

Maybe he will head over to the pond to at least freshen up a bit, getting some water to strain and boil and then splash his face a bit... and you know what? There's a berry patch right there. Just a bunch of berries. Hell yeah.
...this is probably a good way to ingratiate himself with people, but he's actually thinking of something else. He actually spends a little bit of time on the day's march hiking through the grassier areas looking for a specific Pokemon, because as he was reading through info books on Pokemon he found an intriguing alternate source of protein. It seems hard to find, but...
...well, he's not lucky today, because whenever the team stops for the night he kind of slumps down by the nearest fire.]

A little later, he can be seen scouting out for a Togepi to be added to his party, Ventus decided that it'd be nice to have things change up a little and so his partner wouldn't be the only one. [While Sena did leave Veilstone wearing a black jacket, by the time Monday rolls around he's stuffed it in his backpack and re-attached his blue eyeshield to his red and black visor. Despite all this, he doesn't seem bothered by the crisp and chilly Sinnoh air. Why is this the case?
Because he's been spending the majority of the trip running like hell, that's why.
While he can't run at max speed without exhausting himself, his normal pace is already difficult to keep up with without being a seasoned athlete. His running style is highly unusual - a zig-zagging dash with sharp cuts and hairpin turns. Sena does seem winded by the extensive physical activity, but not in a way that suggest he's pushing himself beyond his limits. No, he's surprisingly robust for a tiny guy. But that isn't the real aspect of his run.]
Monta, zag out!
[What's surprising about this is that he seems to be running a variety of pass routes at random, calling them out to just barely avoid crashing into fellow hikers and other obstacles in the route. What's also weird is that Monta's joined in on this - apparently he overheard Sena muttering those routes to himself and decided that they were orders to follow. Or maybe he took them as a challenge. Or maybe he enjoyed the football-based training from before? It's unclear. But the unerring will to follow orders combined with the sheer amount of repetition means that Monta learns the routes in no time, and can easily keep up with Sena calling routes at random.
Still, Sena's no Hiruma - he can't call routes 100% correctly to suit the situation, and so he has quite a few close calls running at this breakneck pace.]

[Even with as careful as he tries to be, Sena can't quite avoid any mishaps. So Monta accidentally crashing into an Eevee that Sena unknowingly steps over was probably something to be expected.]

[Sena skitters around and comes back, picking up Monta gently. The Chimchar seems alright, but the Eevee...]
Ah...it's not getting up... [He lets Monta climb up onto his head and picks up the Eevee, who seems to have sustained an injury to its back leg. Nothing big, but it's a bruise large enough to keep it from standing steady.]

However, there's one problem - one fairly large problem, actually. That being that while Cynthia told you to stay out of the Team Galactic Commander's way, there's not a whole lot you can do if he decides to get in yours.
The place is absolutely crawling with Team Galactic grunts, a large number of them obstructing the path in a formation that's almost military-strict; a short ways in front of them, standing between you and the formation, is the young man from Saturday - the one with the blue hair and the differently-styled clothing, the one with his emotions still intact.
He seems to be in a better mood today, though when he smiles it isn't a particularly nice expression; it's difficult to say if there's genuine malice behind it or if it's just his face. Either way, his words are polite when he speaks; they're even and calm, and there's no anger present like there was at Veilstone City.]
Oh, it's you - I remember seeing you in Veilstone City. It's good to see that you've made it here in one piece, I suppose...though it just makes it more of a pity that I have to turn you back after you've come so far.
What's happening here is Team Galactic business. We can't allow outsiders to interfere with our work. So I'll be seeing you out personally, and I wouldn't suggest trying anything clever unless you want there to be consequences.
I don't particularly care where you go from here, though it doesn't seem you have many options in the first place. You can always return to Veilstone City, I suppose, and make my job infinitely easier for me... Or you can continue southward toward Pastoria City and make me actually work once we're done here. Your choice.
[There's something strange in his voice, something that's very, very alive in a way that's very, very unsettling; the sort of tone that implies someone is completely and utterly certain that they're fucking with you, and there isn't much that can be done about it.]
Either way, the fact of the matter is that you can't stay here. You understand.
[Pastoria City may not seem like the smartest option, given the person recommending it... But on the other hand, returning to Veilstone City is probably not a good option either, given the Galactic stronghold there and the fact that Saturn doesn't seem to be too interested in playing nice right now.

[One way or another, everyone eventually gets gathered enough aways from this whole fuckin situation about to happen here that they have some relative privacy. When she addresses the group there's a sort of sternness to her, almost; a steady, certain dignity.]
While I'm willing to try, I don't know that we have much, if any, leverage to parley for passage. We have no other way through but by armistice, however. If we try to force our way forth, people will be hurt.
Still, if we move on, we're likely running from something that will come to meet us, one way or another. Returning to Veilstone may mean walking into the lion's den, but it is the closest to familiarity we have here. Venturing towards Pastoria could mean anything. There may very well be answers or aid, but we cannot be certain.

Morning
The sea is nice. Kiryu stands with his partners on the beach, looking into the distance. What kind of stuff is overseas? Could there be someone else in this big ball of dirt that's the Pokemon Earth who also has spirit, other than Cynthia and Team Galactic commanders?
His thoughts are interrupted by a wave crashing on the beach. Kiryu moves back to avoid getting soaked, dragging Daigo a bit but unable to make him not have droplets of water fall on him. Heracross gets the brunt of the wave and just...keeps staring on forward. Someone doesn't care at all about the water!
Daigo, though, seems to react in ways Kiryu didn't expect. Idly, like he doesn't realize what he's doing, Daigo seems to try to swat droplets of sea water off his fur. It's such a natural reaction most people wouldn't have paid attention to it, but it's much more than Kiryu expected. There he is, standing on the beach and staring at Daigo like he just grew a limb on the top of his head]
...hey. You hear me? Daigo, say something.
[Kiryu tries to get Daigo's attention, but he doesn't even look at him. Baby steps, he supposes.
Afternoon.
The ocean! Still the ocean, yep. Kiryu is taking a break. He doesn't have a fishing rod, but he is with shorts and with a rather nice t-shirt that's mostly wet. He wouldn't be wearing the t-shirt, but he doesn't want anyone to see the tattoo on his back. Yeah, he still doesn't want anyone to know he was part of the yakuza.
He's at a deeper area, with the water up to his waist. Without warning, he lunges forward, grasps something and pulls, trying to drag it to the shore. The Pokemon he caught complies because of course it does, there's no resistance at all. Hoping what he read about fishes and similar being able to be on land without lots of trouble -- and that jellyfish Kayneth has seems to be doing well enough -- Kiryu puts the Pokemon on the sand. It doesn't even bother to flop around.
Looks like Kiryu just captured a Magikarp]

MEETING
So I have good news and bad news. The bad news is there are goons from Team Galactic all over the place. They know we're here, too. When I went inside the receptionist was already waiting for me, with a letter from Saturn.
[Pulling said letter from her pocket, Rin will either read it out loud or pass it on to anyone who asks to see it for themselves. It seems to be an invitation to meet him at the resort on Saturday night, to discuss the incident at Lake Valor. Food will be provided, as will use of the resort's amenities.
While the letter is cordial, it's readily apparent that if they refuse the invitation, the chances of a peaceful resolution will go with it, and Team Galactic may take action against them.]
