Week 2.

WEEK 2. The new week begins with new surroundings. The city you've been growing accustomed to over the past week is now well behind you as you set out on your journey proper; the terrain still seems rocky and steep here as you move downhill and to the south, dotted here and there with small ponds to the east and rocky outcroppings that you can climb on to the west. There are also large expanses of tall grass here, and the entire route is flanked with tall trees leading off into the forest a short ways. You're more than welcome to explore; just don't stray too far from the group - you wouldn't want to be left behind out here, for any reason. Wild Pokémon are abundant here, as anyone venturing into the tall grass will discover; they aren't inclined to attack you, however, simply watching with dull, dead eyes as you stumble through the area they've come to call home. The trip is difficult, and it's a lot of walking, but it's not unmanageable; fortunately enough, the route you're on should lead you directly to Valor Lakefront, assuming there are no complications along the way. From Thursday and beyond, the route takes a sharp turn west; in front of you lies what's clearly the ocean, large rocks jutting out just offshore tempering the waves. It's safe to go in the water if you so choose - assuming you can swim, that is - and the forested terrain has given way to a large beach with patches of tall grass here and there. Interestingly, there's a house located on the beach; whether it's inhabited or not is difficult to tell. Of course, exploring slightly north of the beach will reveal a path. Maybe it leads somewhere important... Oh, okay! the Beldum thus orients itself... and then magnetically rockets into the Lickitung's skull. It's basically just a tackle, but it's faster and hits harder. A Take Down, if you will. Which clearly makes the Lickitung a little dazed, though the grip remains ]

Yeah, there you go, Miphanus! With a couple of hits like that, I doubt that Pokémon will be able to stay latched on!

Yes... yes, that was most impressive!

[ Miphanus doesn't seem to react one way or the other to that, but the Lickitung is going to once more try to tug it in, only for the Beldum to pull back, and...

Slam into that head again. The Lickitung fumbles and...

Yeah, they both start to fall off the rock it was on, the weight of the Lickitung tugging against the strength of Miphanus's floating. ]

[fatalstrikes]

Hey, look out—!

[They're totally going to fall and that's going to hurt. Well. The pink Pokémon, at least, since Beldum is made of metal.]

I hope neither is hurt too much?!

[ But she is able to be tugged back a little as with a weird sound there is the impact of both on the sand! ... Or at least of the pink thing. which kind of whines uselessly there on the ground as the Beldum is free of the wrap finally and catches itself before it impacts ]

[fatalstrikes]

[Well, now that the pink thing's down, Yuri will let go of Zelda's arm and move to approach. It's not fine if Zelda gets eaten, but it's totally fine if he does??? Okay, Yuri.]

Huh. I don't remember seeing a Pokémon like this in any of the books. Now that it's dazed, you could probably catch it!

- I could, couldn't I?!

[ ... Okay, let's...

Get out the Pokeball. she's still not sure about this, but even as she's surprised and getting her bearings on the choice-

The Lickitung is starting to stand again? It's still beat up looking, but it seems it's a tough... maw. ]

[fatalstrikes]

...You might want to hurry, Zelda. It's getting back up.

[Roc comes trotting over to check things out and she's quick to jump in front of Yuri just in case the Pokémon decides it wants to fight.]

[ Mostly it's just standing there... processing...

Processing...

and its tongue starts out towards the dog as Zelda starts and throws the ball, which hits it in the head and it sucks in there. It falls into the sand, the the ball starts to rock, as if it's not sure if it's caught or not for a moment. ]

[fatalstrikes]

[Is it just him or does Roc seem a little disappointed when the ball hits the Pok&eaute;mon...? Well, she sits down and waits to see what happens.]

Nice throw! Let's see if it worked!

[ Rock...

And ... click! ]

... Oh!

... oh! I think it is caught?!

Yeah, you did it, Zelda!

[He'll go pick up the Pokéball and bring it back to her. Here you go!]

Well done, that was a pretty intense first battle, huh?

[ She takes the ball in hand, examining it curiously, and is surprised by how light it feels. Does it really have that big pink thing in it... ]

It really was quite... it was more than I expected.

[ But there will probably have to be many battles from here, won't there...? ]

It was kind of fun, wasn't it? I've been doing some training with Roc and the other Pokémon I caught and it's been interesting so far.

Honestly, I cannot say that I like it entirely but...

[ Oh, Miphanus is floating down to her! It's coated in some saliva, but she smiles all the same, petting them as they get more level with her. ]

It is something we must do, probably.

[fatalstrikes]

Who knows, maybe it'll grow on you. Even if it doesn't, the wild Pokémon usually don't attack. Honestly, I was kind of surprised to see your new one try to eat Miphanus.

[ she nods and, ]

I think it might've been a culmination of two things - Miphanus did try to go investigate them as they were fishing.

[fatalstrikes]

Oh yeah, that might explain it. I kinda feel bad for them... But I'm sure you'll give 'em plenty of food, yeah?

[hyruglyphics]

Oh yes, of course!

[ They are hers now, right? Or something like that?! But she looks at the ball and smiles a bit more ]

Got any ideas for what to call them?

[ . . . Oh, crap. ]

I only came up with Miphanus's name today. I ... I will need to consult my books even for their species.

Yeah, I've gone through the books I brought with me and I don't remember seeing that one. I think I'd remember a pink Pokémon with a long tongue.

[He also is not the sort to sit and study for very long so like. don't expect much from him.]

I'm sure you'll come up with something eventually.

Particularly one so large... I wonder, they must be uncommon or they would have been noted as a travel hazard, like those Duskull?

[ The ones she saw with Eustace... ]

Maybe they're pretty rare.

What's a Duskull?

They're a ghost like Pokemon I encountered the other day with Eustace! The book I found labeled them as a potential threat in the night, but the ones we found seemed as bland as every other one.
