Week 2.

WEEK 2. The new week begins with new surroundings. The city you've been growing accustomed to over the past week is now well behind you as you set out on your journey proper; the terrain still seems rocky and steep here as you move downhill and to the south, dotted here and there with small ponds to the east and rocky outcroppings that you can climb on to the west. There are also large expanses of tall grass here, and the entire route is flanked with tall trees leading off into the forest a short ways. You're more than welcome to explore; just don't stray too far from the group - you wouldn't want to be left behind out here, for any reason. Wild Pokémon are abundant here, as anyone venturing into the tall grass will discover; they aren't inclined to attack you, however, simply watching with dull, dead eyes as you stumble through the area they've come to call home. The trip is difficult, and it's a lot of walking, but it's not unmanageable; fortunately enough, the route you're on should lead you directly to Valor Lakefront, assuming there are no complications along the way. From Thursday and beyond, the route takes a sharp turn west; in front of you lies what's clearly the ocean, large rocks jutting out just offshore tempering the waves. It's safe to go in the water if you so choose - assuming you can swim, that is - and the forested terrain has given way to a large beach with patches of tall grass here and there. Interestingly, there's a house located on the beach; whether it's inhabited or not is difficult to tell. Of course, exploring slightly north of the beach will reveal a path. Maybe it leads somewhere important... [Okay, how to explain "phone" to the guy from medieval fantasy not-Europe...]

It's mostly something you can use to talk to people over long distances. Even if they're in another country halfway around the world, you can just contact them with this if they have something similar and talk to 'em about whatever.

[He flicks it a little bit; the display changes, just a bunch of buttons lighting up on the surface of it.]

You can also use it to send written messages and stuff. And take pictures, kind of like that thing Zelda was waving around the other day.

Yeah? That sounds really handy. You wouldn't have to wait forever to get letters. I guess in a world as big as yours communication like that's kinda necessary.

[It'd be really handy where he's from too, sure, but at least his world is pretty small.]

Yeah, it's pretty much all instant. Pretty useful, I guess, if you have people you want to talk to.

What, like you don't?

I've got maybe one. I don't keep in contact with a lot of people.

[fatalstrikes]

Sherry?

[That's his guess, anyway.]

I'm guessing you've already tried to get in contact with them. Did it work?

[bloodspent]

It doesn't work just anywhere, you've got to have a signal that can connect you with them. Things like that don't work here.

[He doesn't sound annoyed, though, just explaining.]

But yeah, I call Sherry sometimes. Mostly just send her text messages, but sometimes we talk.

[fatalstrikes]

Yeah, I guess it wouldn't be that easy...

[It's a bit of a shame, though. They could have at least figured out how long it's been since they were spirited away.]

Sounds like you guys are pretty close. You think she's doing okay?

[bloodspent]

I'm pretty sure she's out kicking ass and taking names. You know, living up to her reputation as one of those cute girls who can do better.

[He considers for a moment.]

You wanna see her? I can show you, if you want.

[fatalstrikes]

I'm glad to hear it. One less person to worry about, yeah?

[He tips his head a bit at the question, though.]

You've got a picture of her? Yeah, I'd like to see it.

[bloodspent]

[He flicks the thing around a little again, eventually clicking it open to reveal an image of a cute blonde woman in a heavy jacket, with the name SHERRY BIRKIN spelled out in text below it.]

That's her.

[fatalstrikes]

[He'll move closer so he can see it and then just sort of settle down where he is instead of moving back.]

She's really cute. You have any other pictures on there?

[bloodspent]

Not really - there used to be some others on here, but I cleared them out.

I mean, this wasn't exactly mine at the start.

But the whole thing's been redone, so it's mine now, anyway.

Did you steal it? Technology like that's pretty impressive, so I can see why you'd want to hold onto it.

I might've.

[He totally did.]

I'll take that as a "yes". So who'd you get it from?

[He shrugs.]

Hell if I know. Someone I ended up taking out at one point or another.

Sounds like you had a pretty interesting adventure.

[bloodspent]

Most of my adventures are "pretty interesting."

[fatalstrikes]

So which one was your favorite?

[bloodspent]

[...Huh.]

What do you mean?

Out of all the adventures you've been on, one of 'em has probably stood out, right? Something you've really enjoyed, even if it wasn't necessarily fun at the time?

[bloodspent]

...I don't know.

You know this isn't really something I do for the hell of it, right? The whole mercenary thing.

[fatalstrikes]

No, of course not. It's to make a living, right?

[bloodspent]

Yeah. More or less.

Most of what I do is just a job; I don't really care about it one way or another.
