Week 2.

WEEK 2.

The new week begins with new surroundings.

The city you've been growing accustomed to over the past week is now well behind you as you set out on your journey proper; the terrain still seems rocky and steep here as you move downhill and to the south, dotted here and there with small ponds to the east and rocky outcroppings that you can climb on to the west. There are also large expanses of tall grass here, and the entire route is flanked with tall trees leading off into the forest a short ways. You're more than welcome to explore; just don't stray too far from the group - you wouldn't want to be left behind out here, for any reason.

Wild Pokémon are abundant here, as anyone venturing into the tall grass will discover; they aren't inclined to attack you, however, simply watching with dull, dead eyes as you stumble through the area they've come to call home. The trip is difficult, and it's a lot of walking, but it's not unmanageable; fortunately enough, the route you're on should lead you directly to Valor Lakefront, assuming there are no complications along the way.

From Thursday and beyond, the route takes a sharp turn west; in front of you lies what's clearly the ocean, large rocks jutting out just offshore tempering the waves. It's safe to go in the water if you so choose - assuming you can swim, that is - and the forested terrain has given way to a large beach with patches of tall grass here and there.

Interestingly, there's a house located on the beach; whether it's inhabited or not is difficult to tell. Of course, exploring slightly north of the beach will reveal a path. Maybe it leads somewhere important...

CURRENT LOCATION: ROUTE 213
POKEMON AVAILABLE: NEAR WATER

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY
[OOC: Welcome to week two of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due next weekend!]

It's about the same for me. It would seem most of us are a touch unsettled after yesterday.

Ah, about what happened with that Saturn person?

[He was a bit of a creep, truth be told.]

I'm actually surprised it didn't go far worse than it did. They could have killed us, but they just....let us go, without even taking anything. Most enemies don't tend to give that luxury - at least where I'm from.
discutio: (we are the jack-o-lanterns in july)

I'm inclined to believe when he claims a distaste for lethal force; else it would have been tactically smarter to just kill or capture us on the spot.

But it does bother me. It suggests one of two things; either we're that little of a threat, or they've some purpose for us that we're yet unaware of.

[personal profile] greydients 2018-06-13 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Mhmm. I think I'd much prefer the former to the latter.

[She's used to being considered not much of a threat, and it tends to work in one's advantage.]

Cynthia did say we couldn't defeat him as we are - I'm assuming he's well aware of that. If he doesn't consider us to be dangerous, we could easily surprise him if we all go to the effort of increasing our strength.

[....]

Provided our Pokemon are okay with that, of course.
discutio: (here comes this rising tide)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-06-13 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
As would I. Being underestimated is often an excellent advantage, so my line of thought is the same as yours. I came out here to see if mine were interested in practicing, so much as they're 'interested' in anything.

[personal profile] greydients 2018-06-14 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
[That makes Rey laugh softly.]

If you can get yours to be interested in anything, be sure to share the secret with me.

[...

She's yet to try practicing on the battlefield with her Pokemon. Maybe...]

...I don't want to get in your way, but if you'd like a training partner, I've got no plans to return to sleep.

[Maybe a bit of exercise will raise her Pokemon's spirits.]

You're not in my way at all. I'd actually welcome the help; two of us with no idea what we're doing is better than one.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has no idea how this battling thing is supposed to work.

[Seriously, where do they even start?]

Zelda showed me a book about it back in Veilstone City, but I didn't get a chance to read it in much detail. What do you know about the process?
discutio: (dance alone to the beat of your heart)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-06-15 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Shockingly little, I was planning on figuring it out as I went along.
greydients: (★ surprise)

[personal profile] greydients 2018-06-16 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Surprisingly, Rey doesn't seem bothered by their combined ignorance - she just nods, and looks focused.

She's used to figuring things out for herself.]

Well, let's get started, then. From what I remember in the book, the trainer - that's us - needs to give the Pokemon commands.

[Considering her two silent Pokemon for a minute, Rey points at her starter.]

...Golett. Let's...get ready to fight.

[...and to her great surprise, Golett (still wearing its pink beanie, of course) moves forward and adopts a ready stance, looking towards Ignis and his Pokemon.

Huh. Well, that worked.]

...I guess you're up.
discutio: (setting fire to the sky)

you saw nothing

[personal profile] discutio 2018-06-16 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hemera- [Ignis gestured in the direction he'd last heard his Absol, the Chingling lazily hopping off of her with a jingling noise. For her part, the canine stretched and stepped forward, causing her trainer to raise an eyebrow in slight surprise.]

...Interesting. Perhaps they've some deeper instinct that lends itself to the functionality of this world's combat.
greydients: (★ suspicious)

nothing was seen

[personal profile] greydients 2018-06-16 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
That would make sense. Maybe they'll be able to take the lead.

[Since we've got no clue what we're doing, and all that. Looking over at Golett - whom she'd chosen out of concern for Riolu - Rey shifts on the grass and frowns slightly.]

Although judging by their...emotional problems, probably not. I suppose this is the point where I'm supposed to...command it.

[There's something deeply uncomfortable about telling her Pokemon to attack another, particularly one that is just standing there harmlessly. But...this is what they need to do, isn't it? That's what Cynthia said.]

...sorry.

[Gritting her teeth, Rey silently apologises to Hemera as well.]

...punch it, Golett.

[And in a combination of elation and horror, Rey watches Golett zip forward, shifting its fist back with every intention of slamming it into Ignis' Absol.]
discutio: (you know time crawls on)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-06-16 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Hemera, left.

[True, he didn't know what he was doing; but instinct took over and he directed like a soldier issuing orders, listening to the sound of Golett's approach. The Absol didn't quite perk up so much as responded half-mechanically, darting to Golett's left side.]

...hm. Off to a fair start, you think?
greydients: (★ !)

[personal profile] greydients 2018-06-16 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
[.....huh. Well, that...actually went quite well! Relaxing her shoulders, Rey releases the breath she didn't even realize she was holding.]

We seem to be getting the hang of it, at least. I'm used to being the one doing the fighting, so this is all rather new to me.

[Okay...strategy. Hemera looks like she's a lot faster than Golett, so...maybe...]

...wait for now, Golett. Defend.

[Her Pokemon is obviously better at this whole battling thing than she thought, because it has taken 'Defend' to mean 'curl up in a ball'.]

...okay, well. That works.
discutio: (silver clouds with gray lining)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-06-16 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
[That did pose an interesting strategic advantage; if Golett wasn't moving, then Ignis couldn't very well hear it if he was preparing to strike again. He'd have to direct his partner on good faith and assume she could handle a hypothetical counterattack.]

Go after him, then.

[Which the Absol took literally and...technically, not wrong. Who's ready to learn about type advantages? No one? Excellent.]
greydients: (★ ???)

[personal profile] greydients 2018-06-16 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Rey watches Hemera close in on Golett with a sinking feeling in her chest, and she wonders if her Pokemon is going to do anything, instinctively, to avoid being struck. Her question is quickly answered when the two Pokemon collide, Golett rolling back a few metres and neatly unfolding back into a standing position.]

Golett...

[Was it waiting for her order? Would it truly not move itself out of harm's way unless instructed? Her Pokemon doesn't seem to have taken too much damage, but there's a slight tremor running through its body as it returns to the ready stance. That blow looked painful - had that strange curl it shifted into beforehand helped?

Rey is thinking of what action to select next when Golett suddenly falls to its hands and knees, the trembling intensifying.]

-Golett!!

[Dashing forward, Rey places her hands on her Pokemon's shoulders, also dropping to her knees.]

Are you alright?! What happened?!

[Behind them, Rey's Riolu walks forward mechanically, as if waiting to be summoned.]
discutio: (setting fire to the sky)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-06-16 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
What-? [Ignis seemed startled at the sudden cry of alarm, his Absol stepping back as if put on standby.]

Rey--what's going on, is he alright?
greydients: (★ suspicious)

[personal profile] greydients 2018-06-16 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, it just...collapsed after that attack!

[Still shaking, Golett manages to get back on its feet, Rey clinging to one of its arms as it does so.]

I think it's okay...look, just sit, will you, no more fighting-

[Rey is actually glad for the whole lack-of-spirit thing for once; Golett does exactly as instructed. Slowly, the trembling fades.]

Maybe we should stop-

[Before Rey is able to initiate said stop, Riolu has walked onto the battlefield, taking up a ready stance similar to Golett.

Send out next Pokemon?]

...what? Riolu...I...

[...this is what was supposed to happen, wasn't it? Training. It was normal for her Pokemon to get hurt.

...wasn't it?

...]

...let's continue, Ignis. I'll let Riolu have a try.
discutio: (dance alone to the beat of your heart)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-06-16 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
...Are you sure it's alright? We don't have to continue like this if you aren't prepared.
greydients: (★ determined)

[personal profile] greydients 2018-06-16 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
...I'm prepared.

[Whether that's true or not isn't obvious - regardless, Rey leaves Golett to rest and positions herself behind Riolu. He seems so tiny compared to Golett, but no less ready to begin.

Hm.]

Ready to go.
