Week 2.

WEEK 2.

The new week begins with new surroundings.

The city you've been growing accustomed to over the past week is now well behind you as you set out on your journey proper; the terrain still seems rocky and steep here as you move downhill and to the south, dotted here and there with small ponds to the east and rocky outcroppings that you can climb on to the west. There are also large expanses of tall grass here, and the entire route is flanked with tall trees leading off into the forest a short ways. You're more than welcome to explore; just don't stray too far from the group - you wouldn't want to be left behind out here, for any reason.

Wild Pokémon are abundant here, as anyone venturing into the tall grass will discover; they aren't inclined to attack you, however, simply watching with dull, dead eyes as you stumble through the area they've come to call home. The trip is difficult, and it's a lot of walking, but it's not unmanageable; fortunately enough, the route you're on should lead you directly to Valor Lakefront, assuming there are no complications along the way.

From Thursday and beyond, the route takes a sharp turn west; in front of you lies what's clearly the ocean, large rocks jutting out just offshore tempering the waves. It's safe to go in the water if you so choose - assuming you can swim, that is - and the forested terrain has given way to a large beach with patches of tall grass here and there.

Interestingly, there's a house located on the beach; whether it's inhabited or not is difficult to tell. Of course, exploring slightly north of the beach will reveal a path. Maybe it leads somewhere important...

CURRENT LOCATION: ROUTE 213
POKEMON AVAILABLE: NEAR WATER

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY
[OOC: Welcome to week two of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due next weekend!]

I don't remember the details, but in my world spirits and the such can be warded off with salt.

[That's not going to work, is it]

[...]

Knocking them around a bit would probably work just as well.

[With...their Pokemon... They're not going to punch a ghost.]

[Kiryu seems disappointed. Here he had been hoping they wouldn't have to. You don't mess with ghosts! That only gets you cursed. Buuuuuut looks like he'll have to join in, if only to not seem like he's backing off]

Fine.

[He takes a Pokeball out]

Anything they do in retaliation is your full responsibility.

[That's...a weird statement.]

Only looking to discourage them from following us. [...] Sounds like you expect something else.

The place I come from is generally respectful of spirits. Disrespecting them usually leads to curses and misfortune. I'm not particularly afraid of ghosts or care much about that, but we're in a completely different world right now, and we don't know what kind of tacit rules it has.

I'm trying to play safe.

[Here ghosts seem to be much more real than in his world, if the Pokemon type he read about was any indication, and since the only frame of reference is his own world, he's trying to apply these parts of his culture into this world even if he doesn't know much about these things, just to not be completely lost. It'll take a while before he's used to the quirks of the Pokemon world, hah]

I see.

[And that's a serious sort of "I see". He's taking that into consideration, since it's not exactly an unheard of concept in his own world. And Kiryu isn't wrong that they have no idea how ghosts operate here. Defeating other Pokemon to scare them off isn't so bad, but riling up these ghost-types wouldn't be good for the group if it actually went that way.]

They're not in a state to retaliate right now, so it's hard to tell how they'll take intimidation. [...] Guess it couldn't hurt to try your way first.

[At least he's flexible about this.]

If it doesn't work, I'm willing to give your way a try.

[It is true battling is something almost everything in this world is a fan of. With some luck the ghosts will be satisfied and will leave -- if they even can feel satisfied.

Kiryu returns a bit later with a container of salt. With a glance at the ghosts, in case they're reacting badly to the condiment, he starts pouring the salt in a line in front of them.

Scared yet, ghosts?]
thunderwolf: (♦ sigh)

[Don't worry Kiryu, he'll keep the staredown with the ghosts going in the meantime.

And once Kiryu's back and doing his thing, he'll have the audience of both the ghosts and Eustace. He's watching with raised eyebrows, while the ghosts...

Well, they don't seem to do much of anything. Apparently they don't care at all. But they also don't seem to be getting any closer either.]

...What should they be doing to know it's working?

...it should be like a wall...?

[Good question, Eustace. Well they aren't getting closer, is that...a good sign?

He really isn't sure]

Then we won't know unless they try to pass through it.

[But doing that would require provoking them toward the camp. It's a tough call.]
