Week 2.

WEEK 2. The new week begins with new surroundings. The city you've been growing accustomed to over the past week is now well behind you as you set out on your journey proper; the terrain still seems rocky and steep here as you move downhill and to the south, dotted here and there with small ponds to the east and rocky outcroppings that you can climb on to the west. There are also large expanses of tall grass here, and the entire route is flanked with tall trees leading off into the forest a short ways. You're more than welcome to explore; just don't stray too far from the group - you wouldn't want to be left behind out here, for any reason. Wild Pokémon are abundant here, as anyone venturing into the tall grass will discover; they aren't inclined to attack you, however, simply watching with dull, dead eyes as you stumble through the area they've come to call home. The trip is difficult, and it's a lot of walking, but it's not unmanageable; fortunately enough, the route you're on should lead you directly to Valor Lakefront, assuming there are no complications along the way. From Thursday and beyond, the route takes a sharp turn west; in front of you lies what's clearly the ocean, large rocks jutting out just offshore tempering the waves. It's safe to go in the water if you so choose - assuming you can swim, that is - and the forested terrain has given way to a large beach with patches of tall grass here and there. Interestingly, there's a house located on the beach; whether it's inhabited or not is difficult to tell. Of course, exploring slightly north of the beach will reveal a path. Maybe it leads somewhere important... There. That should take care of it...at least until I need to start applying the potion again.

Well, if this is any indication, our partners have the ability to actually react to something, favorably or otherwise. That's a step in the right direction.

Ah, yes. I was actually going to thank you for helping on that front... at least, it seems like you did, anyway. My Velasquez has actually started to show something resembling concern for his appearance, and he seems to get a bit fussy if his bow tie’s crooked.

...granted, maybe I’m just seeing things that aren’t actually there, but if it really does mean he likes looking well put together it’s something in the rough ballpark of progress.

Is he, now? [Oh, that's both heartwarming and amusing.] Why, how splendid! It's most certainly progress, I would say. The fact that he's showing any care at all means that he's learning to express himself. And if that so happens to be in keeping his appearance up, I would say that's truly magnificent.

Yes, certainly. I'm thinking that once we get back to civilization I might see if I can take him to any sort of accessory shop to see if he's interested.

Truthfully, I've never been much of an animal person, but it's oddly satisfying that this is actually working out.

It helps that they're such obedient little partners by default. That, and their ability to work with others...it's so much more than I would have expected.

I think I'm beginning to see why people must have adored these creatures so.

I do wonder, what other sort of accessories would you try on him...?

Yes, I agree. They're a lot more charming than most of the familiars I've worked with, so that's probably part of it.

...and hmm. It'd be hard to fit most things around his anatomy, but... he might look good with a hat of some kind, wouldn't you agree?

Ohh, that would be lovely! Are you thinking of a smaller hat, or a larger one? It should be a nice black one, to go with his tie, but...perhaps with a lovely little accent. Perhaps a feather?

Well, I think it might be more of an interesting experiment to see what he likes, if this all stems from a genuine desire to express himself. I think I'd put a little top hat on him if it were up to me, but it might be a good bonding exercise.

That would be incredibly sweet; when we're able to go to the next town, you should absolutely see if he'll pick out something for himself.

Oh, absolutely. There's no reason to keep these things a secret, after all, and they might be helpful when it comes to getting our Pokemon to emote more.
