Week 2.

WEEK 2. The new week begins with new surroundings. The city you've been growing accustomed to over the past week is now well behind you as you set out on your journey proper; the terrain still seems rocky and steep here as you move downhill and to the south, dotted here and there with small ponds to the east and rocky outcroppings that you can climb on to the west. There are also large expanses of tall grass here, and the entire route is flanked with tall trees leading off into the forest a short ways. You're more than welcome to explore; just don't stray too far from the group - you wouldn't want to be left behind out here, for any reason. Wild Pokémon are abundant here, as anyone venturing into the tall grass will discover; they aren't inclined to attack you, however, simply watching with dull, dead eyes as you stumble through the area they've come to call home. The trip is difficult, and it's a lot of walking, but it's not unmanageable; fortunately enough, the route you're on should lead you directly to Valor Lakefront, assuming there are no complications along the way. From Thursday and beyond, the route takes a sharp turn west; in front of you lies what's clearly the ocean, large rocks jutting out just offshore tempering the waves. It's safe to go in the water if you so choose - assuming you can swim, that is - and the forested terrain has given way to a large beach with patches of tall grass here and there. Interestingly, there's a house located on the beach; whether it's inhabited or not is difficult to tell. Of course, exploring slightly north of the beach will reveal a path. Maybe it leads somewhere important... [ Coincidence? Yeah, probably? That said, she does look with some wonder. She wonders, if all of those - ah, kings, in that case - inherited their duties well. She nods but then remembering he can't see it. ]

Somewhat, but in truth I do find it... [ . . . ] I would hope other worlds are more peaceful than to need such prophecy, but it is strange for me to imagine one devoid of such stories.

[For a pause that surely felt much longer than it was, Ignis said nothing. Did things really have to unfold as it did? If he'd said or done something, anything more, would there have been another way? Save the world from darkness or don't--he didn't care about that. But-]

...I would...sincerely like to think there are worlds like that.

[ Sensing the pause, she hesitates only a moment before reaching a hand out to brush on Ignis's shoulder. She says, softly, ]

... I only said that part for preamble. The actual stories of the heroes I mentioned would happen after.

[discutio]

I'm..sorry. [The smile quickly returned to his face, Ignis waving a hand as if dismissively.] I was just distracted for a moment. Please, continue.

[ She was next going to go into the story of the man who coveted the Triforce, taking it into his hands in defiance of all, and who would become the Calamity. She decides better of it, for so shocked had Ignis been at that first part. So she instead considers how to work around that... Hmmm.

Is there any working around it...? ]

In an ancient time, there was six sages, all wise and powerful in their own right. And it was they who built the Temple of Time over the entrance to the Sacred Realm, and who guarded it from the unworthy. though sages appear in many, many other stories through the ages.

[An excellent idea, Zelda, because that would have not gone over well at all as a surprise. Ease into that one and boy howdy.]

Is that right...? That part I can't quite compare to anything I'm familiar with; the closest we have is the Oracle bloodline which communes with the divine.

The divine can be touched in various ways in Hyrule. Hylia watches over all, and to pray at her temples, shrines, and statues ... [ She falters a moment, but, ] her voice can be heard, or so it is said. The ancient spirits, as well, linger in the land. Ones of light, or creatures akin to gods in their own rights. The Zora were once said to have a patron deity whom their princess attended to, for example.

That's...very interesting. Most of the Astrals have slept for two thousand years, though their messengers were found here and there.

...Forgive me, I keep interrupting. I suppose I'm easily distracted today.

[ she nods ]

Many of those I listed already are sages in their own right. Saria was a sage of the forests in ages past, and now many towns and regions bare her name. Rauru is a name whose original owner is all but lost to time, but it still resonates with us today. Fado is said to have been a sage of the wind, who along with another is said to have prayed to keep the power to repel evil in the Master Sword.

[of course there's swords why would there not be swords]

The...power to repel evil?

Yes.

The Master Sword is known as the blade of evil's bane. The sword which seals the darkness. Passed down to each hero the blade chooses, through the blessing of the goddess Hylia.

[ A pause, and then as if reciting something, she adds, ]

"Whether skyward bound, adrift in time, or steeped in the glowing embers of twilight, the sacred blade is forever bound to the soul of the hero."

So, it's something of an ancestral weapon in a loosely defined sense. Not an unfamiliar concept.

[ She nods. ]

A spirit resides within the sword, guiding each chosen hero along their path.
