Week 2.

WEEK 2.

The new week begins with new surroundings.

The city you've been growing accustomed to over the past week is now well behind you as you set out on your journey proper; the terrain still seems rocky and steep here as you move downhill and to the south, dotted here and there with small ponds to the east and rocky outcroppings that you can climb on to the west. There are also large expanses of tall grass here, and the entire route is flanked with tall trees leading off into the forest a short ways. You're more than welcome to explore; just don't stray too far from the group - you wouldn't want to be left behind out here, for any reason.

Wild Pokémon are abundant here, as anyone venturing into the tall grass will discover; they aren't inclined to attack you, however, simply watching with dull, dead eyes as you stumble through the area they've come to call home. The trip is difficult, and it's a lot of walking, but it's not unmanageable; fortunately enough, the route you're on should lead you directly to Valor Lakefront, assuming there are no complications along the way.

From Thursday and beyond, the route takes a sharp turn west; in front of you lies what's clearly the ocean, large rocks jutting out just offshore tempering the waves. It's safe to go in the water if you so choose - assuming you can swim, that is - and the forested terrain has given way to a large beach with patches of tall grass here and there.

Interestingly, there's a house located on the beach; whether it's inhabited or not is difficult to tell. Of course, exploring slightly north of the beach will reveal a path. Maybe it leads somewhere important...

CURRENT LOCATION: ROUTE 213
POKEMON AVAILABLE: NEAR WATER

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY
[OOC: Welcome to week two of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due next weekend!]

enjoymyatelier: but what would that even do. (gradients of babylon...?)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-06-27 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I hope you have fun with that.

[...oh that sounded a little sarcastic, um]

Honestly, I'm a mage, so we tend to be less than fond of technology... but in this circumstance, it's kind of necessary.
hyruglyphics: (idk man)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-06-27 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, is that a custom in your world? I hadn't known.

[ That ... well, it doesn't make sense to her, but hey, she'll respect it ]
enjoymyatelier: zach. they're here. (migrane's a comin.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-06-28 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
You could say that, yes. It's more of a point of pride, since we often managed the same things without technology under our own magical prowess.
hyruglyphics: (keywords here?)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-06-28 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Your abilities must be very impressive then, Kayneth.
enjoymyatelier: look at him, gesturing flamboyantly. what a twit. (I'M A GENIUS!)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-06-29 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, they are indeed. I wish I could show them off to see how they compare with other systems, since it does seem to be the case that magic works differently in other worlds... but unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case.
hyruglyphics: (to be using them)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-06-29 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You cannot harness it here?

[ But then, someone had mentioned that the other day, right? ]
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-07-01 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I can't. It's honestly completely infuriating, but... I do think the implications are fairly interesting, so I can't say it's all bad. I'm interested in seeing what the actual cause of it is.
hyruglyphics: (idk man)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-02 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
[ She's not sure what to think of that, actually. She has not had the ability to access her powers since Calamity Ganon was defeated, so she didn't think anything of it, but a mage who can - ... mmm ]

It does sound as though it might be. ... Both of those, that is.
enjoymyatelier: actually, it totally will. (aha! a plan that will not end in failure)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-07-02 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, definitely. I'm actually fairly excited to get home and present my findings to my peers, as there's countless implications about what I've learned here. I'm not sure, but it may revolutionize the way we understand parallel worlds...
hyruglyphics: (weeee)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-02 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Your peers had actually been able to study those before now...? Hyrule has knowledge of them, but they are often steeped in so much myth and legend, I could not fairly call them studied.
enjoymyatelier: i am just done with this shit (ugh whatever)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-07-03 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's definitely not an easy thing to study. Historically, there's only really one person who's been able to travel between worlds on a regular basis, and he's... well, capricious is perhaps an understatement.
hyruglyphics: (Do appreciate these)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-03 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That they're discussing this by a campfire... It's not lost on Zelda, and she smiles a little for it, a burning curosity within her despite it all. ]

If there is only one, as their power been gifted by the gods?
enjoymyatelier: kayneth.../kariya...? (what... am i reading...)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-07-04 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'm... not entirely sure. He's not exactly the most forthcoming person, but I believe he was born too late to be from the Age of the Gods. He is a vampire who's been around for centuries, but I'm fairly certain he figured out Operation of Parallel Worlds before becoming a vampire...
hyruglyphics: (to be using them)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-04 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ . . . What is a vampire. ]

Ah, I see? So it's a matter of the story's truth being lost some time ago - or at least guarded by him?
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-07-05 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely the latter. We mages are fairly secretive under normal circumstances, so if you've figured out how to achieve True Magic, you're going to keep that under lock and key.
hyruglyphics: (idk man)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-07 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
[ . . . What is a True Magic? ]

I suppose that makes sense. ... Though if I may ask, what is the distinction between any other spell and True Magic?
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-07-08 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I forgot that distinction isn't particularly clear... well, "normal" magic is more accurately referred to as "magecraft," and it's more like a replication of phenomena that are technically natural to a certain extent. Like, if I were to conjure fire, for example, that would be magecraft, because it's something that's possible within the laws of the universe. True Magic is something that should be impossible, but someone managed to accomplish it anyway.

So basically, magecraft is bending the laws of physics and finding loopholes, whereas True Magic is looking at the rules and taking a baseball bat to them.
hyruglyphics: (might be an idea)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-08 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Interesting. She wonders if there's a distinction there, the laws of the gods or the laws of men? But all the same, she tilts her head and then nods slightly! ]

I see! Which means that travel between worlds would be considered impossible by the laws of ... Physics?

[ Physics is a weird name for a god. ]
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-07-09 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's a great deal of laws interlocking with each other, some of which are physics. Part of it is that the world just doesn't want to allow those kinds of things on some level.
hyruglyphics: (to be using them)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-09 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
The order of the gods, then?

[ . . . That makes sense to her? ]
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-07-10 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well... the gods don't really involve themselves in the affairs of the world anymore. It's more accurate to say that the world itself has a will of its own.
hyruglyphics: (temp icons)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-10 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The will of... the world? And their gods don't involve themselves anymore? That's alien to her, but then, she supposes not all worlds will have goddesses like Hylia. They might solely have ones have more akin to the Golden Goddesses. She nods slightly and takes this moment to clean off the sticks she had roasted the mushrooms on, determining if they can be reused later. ]

True Magic must then be amazingly impressive.
enjoymyatelier: have fun storming the castle, kayneth (a totally honorable mage duel)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-07-10 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it definitely is. Any magus worth their salt would be beyond ecstatic to be able to accomplish it, though very few even get close.
hyruglyphics: (idk man)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-10 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[ which means his own research is probably no close to it. ]

And yes all no doubt try.
enjoymyatelier: have fun storming the castle, kayneth (a totally honorable mage duel)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-07-12 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed we do. It's all about pushing boundaries and seeing what we can accomplish with the resources we have available to us.
