Week 5.

WEEK 5 As of morning the next day, it seems the rain has stopped; with Azelf awakened and your newly-hatched companions by your side, it's possible that you're feeling a new sense of resolve regarding what needs to be done - and, perhaps more importantly, your ability to accomplish it. The device Maylene gave you certainly does seem to work; activating it will reveal a dark portal crackling with energy, shades of pink and purple swirling brightly around the outer edges, and those of you that walk through it will find yourselves quite suddenly standing somewhere else - there's grass beneath your feet and an unfamiliar city to the west, and the place you're standing seems raised up in some way; turning around once the portal has closed behind the last of you will reveal a massive bronze statue depicting a Pokémon of some sort, though what it is seems to be a little difficult to tell... The trip to Eterna City may leave you feeling a little dizzy and disoriented, and for a few uncomfortable moments you're likely very, very aware of your organs, but the effects will pass after a few moments and you'll soon feel right as rain. Of course, it'll likely become obvious very quickly that you aren't alone near that statue... Either way, it's a long journey up to Snowpoint City; you might want to take some time to make sure that you're prepared before you set off. It really does seem as though finding Azelf at Lake Valor has done the world some good, though, along with your combined effects on the world already; hopefully the Guardian at Lake Acuity in the north will be just as helpful... [ that doesn't sound good at all. ]

We have to get to the others. Can anyone get in contact with Cynthia?

[semistableman]

No, not that I'm aware. Cynthia will probably get in contact with us if she needs to.

And unfortunately... [he rubs his head] The state of the world, what you see around you, is because a man named Cyrus, the leader of Galactic, took control of a god. Not the lake guardians, I'm pretty sure, because they seem to be too gentle.

[redbellion]

He what?!

[ he doesn't remember hearing that part about cyrus. keith's eyes go wide. taking control of a god? ]

How does Cynthia expect to take him down by herself?

[semistableman]

[He just kind of. Shrugs. Like he's used to not really questioning things, and sees no real reason to try now.]

She told us she'd take care of it; that she doesn't want him dead.

[Honestly, he agrees with her and it shows.]

[redbellion]

I don't like this.

[ he doesn't like that they're essentially leaving their fates in one person's hands. one person who won't even let them know what's going on. ]

You trust her that much? To take on such a dangerous mission alone?

[semistableman]

[He gives Keith the thousand-yard stare only a man who has seen way too much combat can.]

I do.

[redbellion]

[ keith recognizes that look. he's seen shiro with that look before. it's the look of someone who's been through too much, and he falls silent.

a moment passes, then: ]

...Without a way of contacting her or reliable transport, there's not much we can do. Besides, you guys know her better than I do.

[semistableman]

We have a mission.

[The soldier-talk is more than obvious, isn't it?]

We need to help the other two lake guardians. It's been a month, and we've only found the one. At the rate we're going, it'll be another two months until we've found the other ones. I don't know if we have that kind of time.

If we hear from her again, it'll probably be then.

[redbellion]

[ now that's what he's talking about. keith appreciates the soldier-talk, because it's what he's used to.

put the mission above all else. ]

How did you figure out where to go the first time? Was it Cynthia who told everyone where to find the first guardian?

[semistableman]

Lake Valor was the lake closest to us, she pointed us in that direction. One of the leaders of Team Galactic was there first, but eventually indicated we should returned-- told us he found "nothing worth reporting."

[He frowns.]

That's not to say we should trust anyone in Galactic. He was a... special case.

[redbellion]

[ well that's not suspicious at all. ]

"Special case?"

[semistableman]

He's been emotionally manipulated by Cyrus.

[Yeah, he's going to fight for Saturn's honor despite still kind of hating the guy.]

It's not an uncommon tactic; exploit a person's vulnerabilities and then break them down so they'll do whatever they think will please you.

[redbellion]

[ cyrus is officially the biggest asshole. ]

Then we'll need to keep working as fast as we can to put all of this to an end. I'll help wherever I'm needed.

[semistableman]

[Despite the seriousness of the conversation, he nods, his expression suddenly a little lighter.]

I'm glad we're on the same page.

[redbellion]

Yeah. Me too.

I'm Keith.

[semistableman]

Bucky.

It's good to meet you, Keith. I just wish it wasn't under these circumstances.

[redbellion]

I've met people through worse.

[ situations that were more...immediately life-or-death than what they're facing right now. ]

[semistableman]

[He nods seriously.]

So have I.
