Week 5.

WEEK 5 As of morning the next day, it seems the rain has stopped; with Azelf awakened and your newly-hatched companions by your side, it's possible that you're feeling a new sense of resolve regarding what needs to be done - and, perhaps more importantly, your ability to accomplish it. The device Maylene gave you certainly does seem to work; activating it will reveal a dark portal crackling with energy, shades of pink and purple swirling brightly around the outer edges, and those of you that walk through it will find yourselves quite suddenly standing somewhere else - there's grass beneath your feet and an unfamiliar city to the west, and the place you're standing seems raised up in some way; turning around once the portal has closed behind the last of you will reveal a massive bronze statue depicting a Pokémon of some sort, though what it is seems to be a little difficult to tell... The trip to Eterna City may leave you feeling a little dizzy and disoriented, and for a few uncomfortable moments you're likely very, very aware of your organs, but the effects will pass after a few moments and you'll soon feel right as rain. Of course, it'll likely become obvious very quickly that you aren't alone near that statue... Either way, it's a long journey up to Snowpoint City; you might want to take some time to make sure that you're prepared before you set off. It really does seem as though finding Azelf at Lake Valor has done the world some good, though, along with your combined effects on the world already; hopefully the Guardian at Lake Acuity in the north will be just as helpful... Good question. I wonder if that's possible...? I've never read anything about it, but it seems like a simple enough concept.

[He looks at the sword, who is continuing to stare at both of them blankly.]

You want to give it a try?

[...It's not even blinking...]

Yeah, that's about what I expected. Okay, let's see what we can do!

[So Yuri reaches out for the hilt of the sword and uh... his hand just sort of passes through? The sword backs up a bit to put some distance between them, but otherwise seems fine with this.

Yuri, on the other hand...]

Uh. What just happened?

What?!

[Kiryu steps back, surprised. What the heck?]

You sure you didn't miss?

[That has to be it, right? Because you don't just phase through swords!]

[fatalstrikes]

No way, I definitely didn't miss!

[But just to prove it, he'll reach out for the sword again. Once more his hand goes right through it and the sword backs up.]

See? I definitely should've grabbed it!

[takestheblame]

[Well this leads to only one conclusion he can think. Thinking back to all the warnings about how Fighting type attacks don't hit ghosts, well...]

You think it could be a ghost?

[He feels ridiculous suggesting it. Ghost sword. What's up with this]

[fatalstrikes]

[Yuri raises a hand to his chin while he studies the sword. The sword stares back, just as blank as always.]

...That's gotta be it, right? I can't think of any other Pokémon type that could just fade like that. But how are you a Ghost-type...?

[That's addressed to the sword, who just continues staring.]

[Pokemon are weird, Yuri, that's how!]

You know what a ghost can do?

[Do they even have...a basic attack like a tackle?]

Oh, I've got it in here, hang on...

[Yuri flips a few pages until he finds what he's looking for.]

Let's see... Night Shade?

[...Nope.]

Shadow Sneak?

[...Still nope.]

We're probably going to be at this all day.

[fun fact: honedge doesn't learn a ghost-type move until level 20!]

...it could be like my Magikarp. It seems the only move it knows is a weak Tackle and a splashing move I don't think hurts anyone at all. Your sword may have to evolve before it can do other moves.

[Thankfully Kiryu is wrong about this. Good thing, eh?]

Oh yeah, that's possible. Still, you'd think it'd at least learn how to use that blade... But... hmm. I wonder what it evolves into?

[takestheblame]

A bigger sword.

[It definitely won't duplicate or anything like that. That'd be silly]

[fatalstrikes]

I guess that'd make the most sense. Maybe it'll lose the tassel-thing...? Or maybe it'll become more ghost-like... a spectral sword, perhaps.

[Okay, he can actually think of some really cool ghost sword designs... Hmm. He's going to have to figure out how to evolve this thing.]

That sounds possible. It'll be like-- [Kiryu shakes his head] When did I start to get used to terms like 'spectral sword' like it's something normal?

[He really did get into this discussion, as if discussing what a sword will evolve into was something he had done before.

Maybe he really is starting to get used to the Pokemon world, despite his many moments of disbelief]
