Week 5.

WEEK 5 As of morning the next day, it seems the rain has stopped; with Azelf awakened and your newly-hatched companions by your side, it's possible that you're feeling a new sense of resolve regarding what needs to be done - and, perhaps more importantly, your ability to accomplish it. The device Maylene gave you certainly does seem to work; activating it will reveal a dark portal crackling with energy, shades of pink and purple swirling brightly around the outer edges, and those of you that walk through it will find yourselves quite suddenly standing somewhere else - there's grass beneath your feet and an unfamiliar city to the west, and the place you're standing seems raised up in some way; turning around once the portal has closed behind the last of you will reveal a massive bronze statue depicting a Pokémon of some sort, though what it is seems to be a little difficult to tell... The trip to Eterna City may leave you feeling a little dizzy and disoriented, and for a few uncomfortable moments you're likely very, very aware of your organs, but the effects will pass after a few moments and you'll soon feel right as rain. Of course, it'll likely become obvious very quickly that you aren't alone near that statue... Either way, it's a long journey up to Snowpoint City; you might want to take some time to make sure that you're prepared before you set off. It really does seem as though finding Azelf at Lake Valor has done the world some good, though, along with your combined effects on the world already; hopefully the Guardian at Lake Acuity in the north will be just as helpful... If it's a Pokemon and is getting stubborn... [Hm. Well there are two options, as far as he knows] Either you convince it with food or anything you have, or you fight it in a battle.

That's how everything in this world gets solved when it's about wild Pokemon, apparently.

[Or so he has heard. Food or fighting! Keeps things simple enough]

[Rin puts her hands on her hips.]

Then we're agreed. That was my reasoning exactly.

[Food or fighting! With heavy emphasis on the fighting. Look, maybe she'll feed it later, but right now reparations must be paid. Rin doesn't even turn to look at the Rotom, raising her voice instead to call out the the pokemon who's been recovering some strength from this battle up in the tree.]

Abbey! It's on the move. Cut it off before it can escape!

[She's on it! With surprising speed, the Gligar swoops out of the tree to attack the Rotom straight on. She's immune to the Electric attack it tries to fire off to protect itself and zig-zags through their before landing a hit of its own. Acrobatics!]

[This is Rin's fight, not his. The most he can do is at least make sure it won't get through any available exits while Rin kicks the motor out of it.

Get to the exit, Daigo, guard it while Rin fulfills today's shenanigans!]

[YOU'RE A PAL, DAIGO. The Rotom is definitely going to try to speed for that exit after it recovers from Abbey's attack. It's part Grass type at the moment, so that Acrobatics move hurt it. When he sees his path is being blocked though, he backs up.

Really, the Rotom is just tired of this. He only kicked Rin because she hit him first? He just wants to get away now. Two eyes appear at the front of the lawnmower, looking between them and glowing with a green energy. Seeing all of his ways out have been blocked...

The only warning is the thumping sound of a motor turning over, before the Rotom makes its last ditch attempt. Only he's not going for either Abbey or Daigo, but instead plows right through the fence! Broken planks fly everywhere, momentarily tripping the lawnmower up before it swerves out of the way and tries to continue on.]

Dammit! How am I supposed to explain this mess? [Rin stands staring in shock for only a moment, before she takes off running after it, gritting her teeth.] I'm not letting you get away!

[Floating there and watching her trainer move in hot pursuit, Abbey seems to realize the battle isn't over yet and follows. They won't have to go very far, though. As Rin passes through the broken fence, she scoops up a splintered plank and chucks it in the air. She has a pretty good arm; it falls right in the Rotom's path and makes it trip over itself.

In the process, it accidentally discharges some more electricity, and Rin's unfortunately going to get a little caught up in that. It knocks her to her knees, but it's not so bad she can't get up again. She's already trying to push herself back up.]

[Does this count as a win by default? The opponent is running away! Rin seems to have that under control, although when she's knocked down he hurries towards her]

You okay? Better hit hard while you still have time.

[heritrix]

I've had worse. That was just stronger than before. [She gets that out through grit teeth, nerves aching, but she rises by her own power.] Which means he's on his last leg, right where I want him!

[She's grinning. She doesn't need Kazuma to tell her to attack; though if he has to, that just shows how out of practice she is. That won't stand.]

Abbey! Do it now!

[Right! The Gligar rushes in—Quick Attack it is! It checks the Rotom hard, the force and momentum making it flip back so it's on its wheels again. Even dazed as it is, it still tries to make another break for it.

And that's when the pokeball Rin throws pops open, inches from striking it right between the eyes. The lawnmower is sucked into it with a flash of light, the capsule dropping harmlessly to the ground. It rocks once, and then twice... And then with a satisfying click, it locks still.

Capture confirmed!]

[Once the capsule stops, Kiryu gives Rin a few moments to go pick it up and relish in her success]

Congrats. You now have gained a... [...huh. Kind of awkward to ask, but...] ...do you know what you captured?

[Because he sure doesn't]

[heritrix]

—ah.

[...she did catch it, didn't she. That wasn't part of the plan, but there's no taking it back now.]

Uh... I have no idea. [Rin squints down at the ball in her hand, picturing the lawnmower she just captured.] There was nothing like that in the books at the department store.

[Well, not like that specifically.]

Though now that I think about it, I think there was something about a creature that liked to hide in appliances. But when you read that, you pictured a raccoon in a trash can or something. Nothing like this!

[takestheblame]

If it can hide in appliances, then it must be a small bug or something like that. An electric bug.

[So far off the mark, Kiryu]

[Well he got the electric part right!]

Like a firefly...? [Hmm, she thinks on that.] Its body was glowing like one.

[takestheblame]

Most likely. A firefly that can drive a lawnmower and other appliances.

[The mere concept is ridiculous]

...I guess we have seen stranger creatures than that around here. I shouldn't be surprised.

[heritrix]

The screaming rocks do leave an impression.

[...oh. Wait, she might be onto something with that train of thought.]

Now that I think about it, maybe it has something in common with them.

Does it? What do you mean?

[Hm. He's not sure he's following this train of thought]
