Week 6.

WEEK 6 One thing is going to be made abundantly clear this week: the routes you're traveling are cold. Through Monday night, you'll likely find it best to skirt around the foot of that massive mountain that lies immediately to the east of Eterna City; it looks treacherous, and while some of you may be up to the trip, it's probably best to not waste your energy before you get anywhere near Lake Acuity. The journey is going to be a long one before you get there, but the first few days will see you making good time, actually. Between that and the noticeable changes to the world, maybe it won't be so bad...? ...Or not. Tuesday morning and beyond is where the hell sets in for those of you that aren't used to or don't like the cold. The routes are full of perpetual snowfall; it isn't heavy, given the time of year, but the fact of the matter is that it's still coming down, and the snow is piled up directly on the route clear up to the average person's waist. It makes traveling slow going, though if you have a fire-type it might be feasible to clear a bit more of a path - be careful with that, though, because all the runoff has to go somewhere, and it's possible that you'll just make the path icy in the end. Either way, it's cold, due to the snowfall you're going to be wet, and traveling is going to be very, very slow; here's hoping whatever's at that lake is worth it, in the end. ...Wherever the lake may actually happen to lie; no matter where you look on the way to Snowpoint City, you won't find an entrance to it... [flip flip] Okay, it's gotta be one of these guys! [She shows the pages with the Sneasel/Weavile line.] Sneasel, the Sharp Claw Pokémon. These Dark/Ice-types largely eat eggs. They work in pairs to hunt, using one as a distraction while the other steals eggs from the nest... Wonder if that means this one has a friend someplace?

Yeah... I wonder what other Pokémon react like that, too...

A snowman? How do we make one of those here?

[Ari... hasn't made one in a very long time.]

Oh, yes, I was. I was thinking I could use a Pokemon that's large enough to ride and carry supplies, so I figured a nice, strong boar would be helpful in that regard.

[The Swinub sniffs the berry, then cautiously nibbles on it...]

Plus, most of my initial team was weak to Electric attacks, so I wanted something that would be able to resist them. Now, I've got a Grass type, but... well, it was always my intention to have a Piloswine to cover both bases.

I'm usually more of a tea person, but at this point I'll take anything warm.

Wait, you've never built a snowman before?

[ It wasn't as snowy as this place back home but it snowed...sometimes. But still, he seemed taken aback at the idea of no one not even knowing how to make one of those. ]

Want me to teach you, then?

Great...maybe one of us trying to move the rock and the other moving Saber can help?

[ ...How big is this rock though before he even tries that... ]

You think maybe some of us who haven't had our Pokemon evolve yet might react to one of those? Like Kiryu's panda...

Ice is good against Rock types...?

[Nope. Ground types. But nice try.]

I don't know, maybe? I guess we would have to find and try different ones to see what would happen.

[Teach us your snowman building ways, Ventus.]

Okay, first of all, you need to get a bunch of snow, like this!

[ ... He's not wearing snow mittens, but he's wearing gloves so it's not like his hands are going to be freezing right off. It takes him a moment but not too long because there's a lot of snow and he begins to try to mush it all together and shape it. ]

Once you get a lot you try to roll it all together so it's kind of one big, circular lump. Then you make another lump and put it on top of that other lump. After that, you find two branches and stick it on the second lump because the snowman needs to have arms and those would be it's arms. You then make another lump and put this final on the top of the second one, because the snowman needs a head, and after all of that you stick two rocks where its eyes would be. After that you give the snowman a carrot for a nose and then either a hat or a scarf.

Then you have a snowman. Got it?

[Kayneth might as well be speaking in a language Bucky doesn't understand, because he understood absolutely none of that. He does stare at the Pokemon a little worriedly, but at least it's accepting the food. That's a thing.]

Oh. I see.

Hmm. I don’t quite know what to pick up for my sixth Pokemon, though. Six is tradition here...

Ah, devouring the young of your enemies.

[Michael smiles. Hard to tell if he's being serious.]

You're probably right. Although...

[He glances down.] Uhm...Vee? Are you interested in trying?

[Vee tilts her head, looks at the rock, then trudges behind Sena's leg. Nope. This transformation thing is weird and she still doesn't completely believe the Monferno next to them is Monta, so.]

Ahaha...guess not.

Mother Nature certainly has some issues to work through.

Oh! If that is how they hunt, then yes, that seems possible...? Could this be a battle over the eggs of the Onix...? No, surely not, it has migrated quite a ways...

[ But that said, now Rock Polished, the Onix moves rapidly, swerving around past the Sneasel and whipping up the ground. This happens for a while, but the the Sneasel is able to rapidly scramble into a tree and...

I mean, they'd probably prefer berries. This isn't some sort of Abrahamic thing where they'll snub you for sacrificing crops.

Sure, but I was demonstrating the magnitude of my thankfulness. Way harder to find and murder a Chansey!

Yeah, she is. But she should know better that this particular fire isn't going to hurt her. We've made dozens of them by this point.

Nothing to this degree. I noticed she'd been experiencing minor agitation lately but I couldn't pin down what was causing it. Tonight though, there was this... [it seems like he doesn't know how to describe what happened] incident, that made the cause crystal clear.
