Week 7.

WEEK 7

After a week of nothing but snow, it's likely that the city is a welcome sight.

The city proper is likewise blanketed in snow, but it's far shallower here, easily walked through; it's soft and powdery and unlikely to cause you to slip, the kind of snow small children and Pokémon might enjoy playing in if they're the sort to enjoy that kind of thing.

And if they were capable of enjoying much, in the case of the children.

That said, the people here are still in the mildly improved state you witnessed in Eterna; it isn't much, but it is improvement, and the world around you continues to change in other, smaller ways as well, so it isn't all for naught.

The wild Pokémon here, however, seem to be experiencing something a little...different from what you've been seeing so far - specifically, the Shellos here seem a little hostile toward one another. Snowpoint City is separate from and parallel to the giant mountain you passed last week, and it's populated by both the blue and pink varieties; the different sorts...don't seem to like each other much. It isn't all-out warfare or anything, but there are definitely skirmishes and mounting tensions happening in slug culture here.

Mediate if you choose, or just enjoy your time in the city. You've earned it, after last week.

CURRENT LOCATION: SNOWPOINT CITY
POKEMON AVAILABLE: WITHIN CITIES

heritrix: (nooooo?)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-07-21 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Rin doesn't notice Zelda at first, as she lowers the Snover she's carrying to sit down on the bench, speaking to it in soothing tones. It's shaking fiercely.]

Hey, don't be scared... It'll be—

[A familiar voice calls to her, and Rin looks up.]

Oh, Zelda! It's good to see you.
hyruglyphics: (so like I'll get some better)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-21 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ To be fair, the Metang behind her floating closer here might... not... be reassuring! It's curious about the Snover. The Onix, given it's over thirty feet long might be less assuring, but it's lingering back here closer to the water. That said, the green eyed princess closes in on the other and, ]

It has! I see you've been out.
heritrix: (could it be?)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-07-21 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
[It's actually not Zelda or her Metang the Snover is afraid of, actually! Strangely, it seems to be more nervous about Rin? Though it's calming considerably as it looks about, like it was expecting something else might be with her.

That said, not all of its shaking is due to fear. Even though Rin is doing her best to reassure it, it can't stop trembling, and its coloring is off. Rin pats its head gently, and drops her bag onto the bench too, so she can root around in it.]

I was, yes. As the newest member of my team, Rubin has been lagging behind the others for a while, so I wanted to focus on training him. I thought the harsher environment outside the city would help toughen him up.
hyruglyphics: (I mean some look okay?)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-21 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't that one only hatch from the egg not too long ago...? I suppose Pokémon do seem to be born with almost full capabilities, but that does strike me as demanding...

[ Well, who is she to critique that, particularly in light of what their encounters with Jupiter and Saturn and the like have implied of their needs going forward. Instead, she shakes her head and brushes back some of her hair blowing in the cool - downright cold, really - winds this near the water. She crouches down to look more intently at the Snover. ]

It seems you have another here.
heritrix: (majestic and shit)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-07-21 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
[It is demanding, even knowing they have some dangerous encounters ahead of them. Rin's style as a trainer is influenced by her own upbringing, though; sometimes she wonders if she goes too easy on her team as a consequence. Until now, Monkey has been the only one to undergo such difficult methods.

She was about to tell Zelda that Rubin did fine and not to worry; he's the most spoiled of her lot, and because of that Rin would always switch him out for one of the others when he looked like he really couldn't handle it. But she seems to notice the Snover then, and Rin remembers who she should be focusing on anyways.]

Mm. We ran into it yesterday while training. I had Abbey out to help finish the fight, and she went overboard. Knocked the little guy right out.

[Fetching some home-made medicine from her bag, Rin unscrews the lid and begins to apply ointment to the Snover's forehead.]

I thought it was poisoned at first because Abbey used her tail, but it wouldn't stop shaking even after I treated it. This is the first time it's been awake since yesterday, actually. I think its sick.
hyruglyphics: (but will I fix all the)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-21 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
[ Zelda's barely managed a "methodology" to her training yet, if she's honest. She doesn't have a talent for combat, and she's not sure how to transfer it onto Pokemon. She's tried to follow Camilla or Ignis's leads but...

Well, maybe she should take more insight from Rin? But this Snover takes priority, reminded to her by the words of the other and the beeps of Miphanus. ]

Oh... oh no, that's not good...
heritrix: (standard thoughtful expression)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-07-21 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Rin nods.] Now that it's awake, maybe I can get it to eat something. I have some medicine I've made that could help, though it's experimental.

[Also... she's not sure where its mouth is...]
hyruglyphics: (so like I'll get some better)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-21 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
If you're unfamiliar with the species, I can actually tell you a lot about Snover.

[ Because of her boobs on grass types! She says it with some pride, keeping crouched in front of the thing. ]
heritrix: (shoulder)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-07-21 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Because of her boobs, huh.]

Oh? You've studied up on them, then?
hyruglyphics: (These are probably)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-21 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
[ Don't @ me maybe she's on Rin's boobs. That said, ]

Quite extensively, actually. I was able to get books on many grass types of the region.
heritrix: (you're lucky I like you)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-07-21 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
[It's a very different kind of studying, okay!!!]

Something you picked up in Eterna City, I take it.

[Heh. Rin smiles, and when she can't coax the Snover to eat the bitter medicine she's brought out, she gets some of her other tools out. Maybe if she mixes some berries in...?]

Alright. If you have any interesting remarks, I'm all ears.
hyruglyphics: (Do appreciate these)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-21 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well then! Time to stand and tap a finger to her chin as she recounts... ]

Well to begin with, they're called Snover, an Grass and Ice type. Despite that, they seem to actually lean much more towards Ice than Grass in terms of their living conditions. Parts of the Sinnoh less overall frigid than we are now, they're actually seasonal Pokemon, migrating to the foothills during the winter and returning up to the colder peaks when the weather turns more warm, the better to keep themselves cold. They also have a keen awareness of when hail storms will appear - certain strong ones can actually summon them just by willing it, or so it is claimed in my readings.

[ Snow Warning, and all ]

I'm sure you've noticed, but the crown of their head is actually pure ice, and thus is quite chilly to the touch, so I would not recommend it... ah, and also their mouth is actually located just below their eyes, where you would expect it, it's just obscured by their snow cloak. [ ... Oh! ] And during the spring, they grow berries on their stomach. ... Much of the research I studied also comments that wild Snover actually tend to rarely encounter humans, just due to the climates they live in.
heritrix: (a natural reaction to shinji)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-07-21 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
[She knew some of that beforehand. Its name and typing came up in some of the books she read early on, when they were still in Veilstone. Its very interesting to learn these factoids though, particularly that they can grow berries on their own bodies. Do they eat those berries themselves? If they like them, maybe she can trick the little guy into eating...

With that in mind, as Rin selects some berries to mix into the medicine, she sets aside a few oran berries and places them in front of the Snover, in hopes it'll take them.]

I wonder what it was doing so close to the city then, especially in that condition.

[Mrrr. If she'd known it was sick, she wouldn't have had her pokemon fight it. Though to be fair, it engaged back.]

Hopefully letting it recover in my tent didn't make it worse. I knew it was an ice type so I kept it away from the fire, but I felt bad leaving it out in the open when it was hurt.
hyruglyphics: (to be using them)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-21 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
That is a question, actually... it could be that with people leaving the city less than before the patterns of the local Pokemon have also shifted?

[ Not that Snowpoint here probably ever had much foot traffic. But still, that might go a long way to explaining the Shellos too. Still, she hums and leaves Miphanus there to snoops as she takes a fe steps back to call the onix closer. Who... does. ]
heritrix: (ooooh)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-07-21 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that actually makes some sense. [Grind, grind, grind these berries.] Even if few people live up here, until five years ago this city must have still seen all kinds of travelers. Going on a journey with your own pokemon seems to have been like a rite of passage not too long ago, and barring that, Snowpoint does have its own gym.

[And a gym means students, and challengers.]

Now that there's less humans coming and going, however, that shakes up the territory. It could be it had never even seen a human, until we bumped into it.

[That definitely seems to be the case, given the curious way the Snover has been watching Zelda, even as it trembles. It seems curious about the Onix as well as it gets closer, but a little too miserable to investigate it. It's a little teary-eyed and shy, actually.]
hyruglyphics: (Pew Pew)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-21 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh well then... hello, little one! ... Well, little. I mean it is a Snover. That said, she smiles softly for it, and given the freedom of movement reaches a hand out to gently brush it on one of the arms of the thing, humming a little. ]

Yes, that actually follows. Especially given that outside of those travelers I imagine most people would arrive through the shipping area here. Those ships are truly impressive looking.
heritrix: (sounds like something a bitch would say)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-07-21 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[They've got a nice view of those docks from here, actually. Right near the entrance into Snowpoint, Rin had to go up and down a few stairs, but eventually she'd found a bench. It overlooks the water, and looking across it, Rin can't help but wonder how much use it gets these days.]

It reminds me of the wharf back home.

[Taking a small sample of the medicine, she frowns at the taste, then adds a different kind of berry. Something sweeter, and not the oran berry's... weird flavor mix.]

Do you think you could get it to eat one of those berries? It seems to like you just fine.

[Indeed, while the Snover is still looking miserable, it allows Zelda to touch it. When she brushes its arm, it curiously tries to return the gesture by loosely curling its fronds around her finger.]
hyruglyphics: (but for now let's do this)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-21 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She can, indeed, do that! She'll take the mix and try to offer it to the Snover, holding it up towards where those sketches implied the mouth would be in her book. Still... ]

No, I can do it, I think!

[ But okay, come on, she smiles and, ]

Come on, little one, you should eat up.
heritrix: (whatever you say)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-07-21 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[It looks reluctant, shaking its head at first and refusing to open up. With Zelda holding the berry in front of its face, though, it notices the smell is nice. Hiccuping, it does eventually lean in towards her, to sniff at it.

Rin watches this interaction closely, humming in thought.]

A stomachache, then. It must've eaten something bad not long ago.
hyruglyphics: (YEET)

[personal profile] hyruglyphics 2018-07-22 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ You know with that hiccuping... yes, it's likely a stomach- hmmm ]

Yes, I don't believe Snover rely on photosynthesis, unlike some grass types. So they must've eaten something odd, or simply have a bug that effects their stomach.

[ Hmmm. ]
