Week 9.

WEEK 9

The one thing Team Galactic seems to have done right in this world is perfecting teleportation technology.

The device Maylene gave Rey will get all of you back to Eterna City easily; from there, it's a matter of very briefly stocking up on supplies on Sunday before you move westward, away from the massive, imposing form of Mount Coronet and into the deep shadows of Eterna Forest.

During your brief stay in Eterna City, it's likely that you'll notice a few things have changed, as far as both the people and the Pokémon go; this holds true as you make your preparations and disappear into the forest on Monday. It's heartening, maybe, to know that once again your actions seem to have made a difference; meanwhile, the trip to Lake Verity looks to be a long one, but it isn't entirely insurmountable.

The forest itself is large and dark, covered high overhead with a thick canopy of trees; the Pokémon here are plentiful, which likely cuts down on any inherent creepiness to the place - whether that's a good or a bad thing depends entirely on your point of view. Either way, it's going to be quite the adventure trying to make your way through; here's hoping that your luck continues to hold over the coming week...

CURRENT LOCATION: ETERNA FOREST
POKEMON AVAILABLE: PLAINS/FOREST

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY
[OOC: Welcome to week nine of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due this weekend!]

[Morag wastes no time getting to work today. First off is gathering supplies before their departure. Until recently, she's been eschewing Pokeballs in favor of more potions, but today she adds a few balls to her stock.

Later, she and her trio of Pokemon can be found at the grassy area to the east of the ancient statue. Mareep is by her side, looking slightly more alert than before, and Torchic and Gible and facing down each other while Morag stand with her arms crossed, watching sternly.]

Begin.

[The duo leap at each other, spewing fire and violet light from their mouths. It's a spar, so neither of them are attacking with the intent to seriously injure- until Gible stomps his feet, causing a swirling cloud of dust to swell around Torchic. Gible learned Sand Tomb!]

...What? When did you learn how to do that-

[Morag is cut off by a distressed cry from Torchic as the sand pelts her, but the cry quickly turns to a growl of determination as a white light erupts from within the Sand Tomb. Torchic bursts out of the cloud- but she's not a Torchic anymore.

Morag slowly raises a hand.]
That's... enough for now, you two.

grassy area;

[ Ventus has been kind of wandering around in the area, holding Togepi before just...stopping and blinking at what had just happened. First he saw the new move and then apparently the evolution. ]

Wow...were you training the both of them just now? It looks like it's been paying off.

[So, back here again.

For the most part, Jake is just glad to be somewhere that's both far away from Lake Acuity and not absolutely frigid; he's still keyed-up, but he's being a little less aggravated than he was last night - his hand's still bandaged up pretty well, but it doesn't look like anything's broken and so he's just going to deal with it as it goes. He's definitely going to be stocking up on medical supplies before we all leave tomorrow, though, he does not like the idea of being in the woods with something like this going on.

That said, he can be found in a couple of places today; he's back at Gardenia's gym in the morning, just kind of wandering around through the plants and letting Kandža play with some of the really overgrown flowers and vines. She doesn't seem to know what she's doing with them, mind, but whatever it is she's trying to accomplish, she's doing it at an acceptable clip.

He's sort of half-watching her, half-not; he tends to seem really off in his head when he's in here, and this really isn't an exception. Maybe it's for different reasons today, maybe it's not; who knows, really.

Outside of that, though, he can be found outside the statue to the east of town, just kind of studying it; if he's joined, he's got all of one question, really.]

So. Time, space, all of creation, whatever the actual fuck the fourth thing he's probably got does - which one do you think this is, and how bad do you think Cyrus is gonna kick our asses with it?

statue

[personal profile] discutio 2018-07-29 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard it theorized that the statue depicts two different creatures at once. From how Rin described it, I'm inclined to follow that line of thought.

[Ignis wasn't looking at the statue for obvious reasons, but brought a hand to his mouth in thought.]

And if that's the case, I think there are a couple of possibilities. A god which changes form is the first which occurred to me, but it could also be duality of another sort.
bloodspent: (08. who can compare)

[personal profile] bloodspent 2018-07-29 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jake shrugs a bit, even if Ignis can't see it.]

I wouldn't be surprised if it's two of them; I also wouldn't be surprised if God is just kinda like that. I'm pretty sure the giant blue androgynous guy with dreadlocks, three eyes and a fucklot of arms, riding a bull and covered in snakes, probably looks like it's supposed to be representing at least three things to someone who has no idea what the fuck Shiva is supposed to be.

[...Jake, for god's sake.]

Though these guys also tend to be a little more straightforward than "countless faces and eyes just fucking everywhere", so there's also that, I guess.
discutio: (one maniac at a time we'll take it back)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-07-29 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd not be shocked if it was in fact just a single creature, but I do feel Rin's idea of it being two holds water to an extent. Take the lake guardians, for example. Minor deities, perhaps, but small facets of what seems to be a single general function; like a god in triplicate. I have a sneaking suspicion what the statue depicts could be representative of a pair governing the same or similar concepts.

[Beat.]

...Wait, that's what the Shiva that Kayneth was telling me about looks like?

bloodspent: (07. they're all the same)

[personal profile] bloodspent 2018-07-29 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
...Depends on who's depicting him, but generally? Assuming we're from similar enough worlds, yeah.
discutio: (setting fire to the sky)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-07-29 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[...Huh.]

Ours is...very different. She's a human-shaped ice deity; I've never actually seen her firsthand in our brief encounters, but I came across a fair few depictions when I was studying as a child.
bloodspent: (25. how am i the lucky one)

[personal profile] bloodspent 2018-07-29 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
So we've got similar names but completely different depictions going on.

[...Huh.]

I know Yuri's world's got some stuff named in a language I've never fucking heard before, but it's close enough to languages I've got back home that I can figure out what he's saying anyway. It's...weird.
discutio: (dance alone to the beat of your heart)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-07-29 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I find languages quite interesting, actually. I've studied a great deal of our world's ancient history, and though old Lucian's fallen out of use long ago, it still has its root in quite a large chunk of the common tongue. Mostly in Lucian names, as well.

Linguistics carrying over between worlds wouldn't surprise me too much given the nature of the concept, in short.
bloodspent: (28. when you were there first)

[personal profile] bloodspent 2018-07-29 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[...]

No offense, but you and Noctis both have names that are kind of "who the fuck does that to a baby."
discutio: (and i'll burn you to the ground)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-07-29 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[He didn't seem too offended, instead answering with a smile.]

I'll admit there are a fair amount of names amidst the royal court that are a bit straightforward.
bloodspent: (07. they're all the same)

[personal profile] bloodspent 2018-07-29 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, my mom gave me the most American name imaginable and I grew up in Eastern Europe, where they aren't exactly crazy about the Americans. So I get unfortunate naming, kinda, but still.
discutio: (setting fire to the sky)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-07-29 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's ordinary enough for us; I don't believe anyone's ever thought twice of my name when I've given it, and it's highly unlikely anyone would ever have criticized Noct's.

...I've been a bit curious about how you're naming your team; what I've heard from you isn't any language I recognize, though clerly you've some equivalent for Lucian in your world if you recognize mine and Noct's for their meanings.

[Rey has been watching Morag and her Pokemon train from a small distance away, her Cleffa in her arms and her Golett and Riolu near her feet. In all honesty, she was trying to find the right moment to ask if she needed a training partner, but...well, she looks like she has things under control. So for now, Rey is content to view from afar.

That all changes once Torchic evolves, however - a few moments after that white light has disappeared, Rey quickly jogs over, looking enthralled.]

That was evolution!

[...you know. In case you hadn't noticed.]

How did you get it to do that?
bloodspent: (46. to wait around forever)

[personal profile] bloodspent 2018-07-29 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh - yeah, yours is Latin, or close enough. It's the root of a lot of languages back home, mostly clustered on one specific continent but it's spread to a few of the others because people do that. The language I'm using has Slavic roots, not Latin, which I'm guessing you might not have where you're at.
greydients: (★ determined)

[The beautiful Eterna Gym became something of a safe space for Rey the last time they were in the city; if she ever found herself having some spare time (and wasn't it luxurious, to have some legitimate spare time?), her legs tended to lead her there, where her and her Pokemon would sit amongst the flowers and try to recreate Emmeryn's flower crowns with varying levels of success.

So after the events of the weekend it seems like the ideal place to go, particularly if they're only planning to be in Eterna City briefly. Rey is putting Cleffa down amongst some flowers when she notices movement out of the corner of her eye; for a moment, she's disappointed, as she really did want to be alone....until she notices who it is.

...]

...you heard, didn't you? What Uxie told me about Cyrus.

[Hello to you too, Jake.]
bloodspent: (03. you made a vow)

[personal profile] bloodspent 2018-07-29 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hey. Rey's voice will effectively pull him out of his thoughts; he doesn't seem annoyed by it, though, or by the lack of standard greeting. He gets it, it's good.]

...Yeah, I did.
discutio: (one maniac at a time we'll take it back)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-07-29 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't sound like any of the older ones I've studied, so I'm inclined to believe we don't have one like that. Which only makes it a bit more interesting that you've an equivalent to the kingdom's ancient language.
