Week 9.

WEEK 9

The one thing Team Galactic seems to have done right in this world is perfecting teleportation technology.

The device Maylene gave Rey will get all of you back to Eterna City easily; from there, it's a matter of very briefly stocking up on supplies on Sunday before you move westward, away from the massive, imposing form of Mount Coronet and into the deep shadows of Eterna Forest.

During your brief stay in Eterna City, it's likely that you'll notice a few things have changed, as far as both the people and the Pokémon go; this holds true as you make your preparations and disappear into the forest on Monday. It's heartening, maybe, to know that once again your actions seem to have made a difference; meanwhile, the trip to Lake Verity looks to be a long one, but it isn't entirely insurmountable.

The forest itself is large and dark, covered high overhead with a thick canopy of trees; the Pokémon here are plentiful, which likely cuts down on any inherent creepiness to the place - whether that's a good or a bad thing depends entirely on your point of view. Either way, it's going to be quite the adventure trying to make your way through; here's hoping that your luck continues to hold over the coming week...

CURRENT LOCATION: ETERNA FOREST
POKEMON AVAILABLE: PLAINS/FOREST

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY
[OOC: Welcome to week nine of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due this weekend!]

So we've got similar names but completely different depictions going on.

[...Huh.]

I know Yuri's world's got some stuff named in a language I've never fucking heard before, but it's close enough to languages I've got back home that I can figure out what he's saying anyway. It's...weird.

I find languages quite interesting, actually. I've studied a great deal of our world's ancient history, and though old Lucian's fallen out of use long ago, it still has its root in quite a large chunk of the common tongue. Mostly in Lucian names, as well.

Linguistics carrying over between worlds wouldn't surprise me too much given the nature of the concept, in short.

[...]

No offense, but you and Noctis both have names that are kind of "who the fuck does that to a baby."
discutio: (and i'll burn you to the ground)

[He didn't seem too offended, instead answering with a smile.]

I'll admit there are a fair amount of names amidst the royal court that are a bit straightforward.
bloodspent: (07. they're all the same)

I mean, my mom gave me the most American name imaginable and I grew up in Eastern Europe, where they aren't exactly crazy about the Americans. So I get unfortunate naming, kinda, but still.

It's ordinary enough for us; I don't believe anyone's ever thought twice of my name when I've given it, and it's highly unlikely anyone would ever have criticized Noct's.

...I've been a bit curious about how you're naming your team; what I've heard from you isn't any language I recognize, though clerly you've some equivalent for Lucian in your world if you recognize mine and Noct's for their meanings.

Oh - yeah, yours is Latin, or close enough. It's the root of a lot of languages back home, mostly clustered on one specific continent but it's spread to a few of the others because people do that. The language I'm using has Slavic roots, not Latin, which I'm guessing you might not have where you're at.
discutio: (one maniac at a time we'll take it back)

[personal profile] discutio 2018-07-29 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't sound like any of the older ones I've studied, so I'm inclined to believe we don't have one like that. Which only makes it a bit more interesting that you've an equivalent to the kingdom's ancient language.
bloodspent: (23. heavy as a feather)

[personal profile] bloodspent 2018-07-29 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
No one really uses Latin anymore, it's been a dead language for a long time; it's a bunch of offshoots that are around now.

Languages are kind of... I don't know if I'd say they're my thing, but I've always picked them up easily. Helps with my work, you know?

[...jake you were more or less fluent in cantonese after like a month and a half of listening to your prison guards, they're sort of your thing]

[personal profile] discutio 2018-07-29 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Likewise, actually. I had to pick up what I know of the ancient tongue for my research.

In my case it's more like "you're less likely to get stabbed if you can understand the people talking in some other language about how they're gong to stab you."
