Week 1.

WEEK 1.

As Cynthia had promised, the sun does indeed rise the next morning.

Whether you slept or not (and sleeping inside the Pokémon Center you were in before seems totally fine by the attendant), it seems Cynthia kept her word; she left sometime shortly before sunrise, and you haven't been bothered by Team Galactic and those that work for it in the interim.

It isn't advisable to return to the headquarters building, however. At least not for the time being.

However, a new day does dawn, and with it comes the knowledge that you're in an unfamiliar city, completely on your own. There are several things to be done before you can leave: gathering supplies and provisions, finding maps, obtaining new clothes...

Of course, your new "companions" are still with you, and they don't seem willing to leave your side; they'll follow you dutifully, but they still seem...wrong, horribly so, and it doesn't seem to be wearing off. Maybe if you work with them a little...? Try to talk to them, train them, teach them to do things... Who knows? It might do them some good.

CURRENT LOCATION: VEILSTONE CITY
POKEMON AVAILABLE: WITHIN CITIES

MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY
[OOC: Welcome to week one of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due this weekend!

Feel free to investigate the city as you see fit this week; we ask only that you try to stagger investigations and be mindful of what's already been checked. If you wish to investigate, notify the mods in your comment subject for your top-level and we'll get on it as soon as possible!]

semistableman: (★ i am so homesick now for)

[personal profile] semistableman 2018-06-09 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think so.

But they're a lot bigger, flatter-- and instead of having buttons like a phone, you touch a flat screen.

[He very clearly doesn't like this at all.]
heritrix: (your mom)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-06-10 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
[She very clearly doesn't either, as she scrunches up her nose!]

You can't carry around something that wide and flimsy in a pocket. It would break!

[Her tongue pokes at the inside of her cheek.]

I bet they do all the time. Ugh, can you imagine the hassle of replacing them? Some "convenience". Landlines are at least built to last.
semistableman: (★ someplace i will never be)

[personal profile] semistableman 2018-06-10 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. It's too fragile.

[Bucky is one of those people using a flip phone in TYOOL 2018.

Or he would if he had a reason to use a cellphone.]

Man. Landlines. My friend and I, we shared an apartment together, and even on our combined incomes we were never able to afford one of those.

[Bucky, stop talking like you're an old man.]
heritrix: (so that's how it is)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-06-11 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Rin, believe it or not, actually owns a cellphone.

The second she got it, she kind of tossed the thing into a chest where the laws of time and space don't apply, and then immediately forgot about it, but!!! She does have one.]

Seriously?

[Rin blinks at him. Bucky, she will be your whiny, "you crazy kids get off my lawn" buddy 'til the cows come home when it comes to this subject, but even she has a landline. On rare occasions, she even plugs it in.]

Where on earth did you live? I have to cut back on expenses from time to time to make ends meet, but even I've been able to budget in a telephone.
semistableman: (★ someone that i never knew)

[personal profile] semistableman 2018-06-11 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
[Bucky blinks, and then makes a face that makes it clear he's just said something without thinking about it too hard, and is now regretting it a lot.]

Uh. Brooklyn. It's in New York.

[He shrugs, like this explains everything, before his jaw twitches, looking carefully to the right and the left without moving his head.]

In the early 1930s.

[He sounds and looks deadly serious.]
heritrix: (say what?)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-06-11 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
[...weird. He looks almost embarrassed admitting that? Barring that, she can tell at minimum it's an uncomfortable subject.]

I wouldn't have guessed, from your appearance.

[I mean, they all have the same outfit, but it's more the haircut and facial hair that would have had her pegging him from a later time period.]
semistableman: (✪ he's never coming back)

[personal profile] semistableman 2018-06-11 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
[He laughs, but it's more comfortable than he look just a moment ago.]

Currently, it's 2018 for me.

It's kind of a long story, I wasn't awake for most of the past 70 years.
heritrix: (how did I delete these keywords)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-06-11 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, he's more than a decade ahead of her in that case.]

Geez, it sounds like a crazy one too. But it leads to one important question—

[And leaning forward with her arms draped over her knees, she clenches her fists in fake earnest.]

Did you invest in any big stocks when it was still the 1930s?
semistableman: (✪ he's never coming back)

[personal profile] semistableman 2018-06-11 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, I was a kid, couldn't do it.

[Which probably implies his wealth right there, given he's already stated he shared an apartment with a friend.]

I didn't have that kinda money, even if I wanted to.
heritrix: (look here)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-06-15 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Drat.

[She sticks out her tongue a little, clearly teasing him. Not making light of his situation, no; just trying not to poke too hard at what could be an uncomfortable subject.

It's the kind of story that begs a lot of questions, but she doesn't want him to feel like he has to share if he doesn't feel like it.]

That's a lost opportunity. You could have been a millionaire. [And then absolutely deadpan:] The man worth a million buckies.
semistableman: (★ someplace i will never be)

[personal profile] semistableman 2018-06-15 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[He laughs at that, hard. It's a lot of genuine emotion from a man who has been pretty reserved.]

I like you.

That was good, I gotta remember that one.
heritrix: (miss points-a-lot)

1/2

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-06-16 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Excellent. Then that can be considered mission accomplished.]

I'm sure it'll be funnier to hear you tell it.

[Eyes closed and looking entirely too pleased with herself, she smiles.]

heritrix: (cool lean)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-06-16 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Though once the moment's passed, she looks up at the sky.]

Still, I can't imagine what that must have been like.
semistableman: of my own (★ never had a cherry valance)

[personal profile] semistableman 2018-06-16 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[He smiles.]

It wasn't so bad; I had a friend there with me the whole time.
heritrix: (shoulder)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-06-16 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
The same thing happened to him?
semistableman: (✪ he's never coming back)

[personal profile] semistableman 2018-06-16 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, actually.

[That... doesn't seem to be quite the truth, but his easy expression doesn't waver any.]

My childhood friend managed to survive to the 21st century, too.

But we did a lot to support each other in the 30s, too.
heritrix: (shiny?)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-06-18 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Huh... It's something to think on for later. This is their first real conversation, so it would be rude to pry. Still, she tries to be empathetic.]

I don't know if events in our worlds line up in the same way, but if they're similar, the 1930s were a scary time. A crappy apartment is one thing; the rest is just rough.
semistableman: (☔ dead days refuse to dream)

[personal profile] semistableman 2018-06-18 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, they were definitely scary. I was shipped out to Europe in the 40s.

[.......]

I didn't want to go. It was a draft; I didn't have a choice.

[War is hell. Etc, etc, etc]
heritrix: (who got sad in my tea)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-06-18 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry.

[She means that, sincerely.]

I've fought my battles too, but even if it was called a war, it doesn't really compare.

[Not to that war. As a mage, her kind concern themselves with much narrower conflicts, if maybe just as vicious one. But Rin's still Japanese. She knows exactly what he's talking about.]
semistableman: (☔ straight out of it)

[personal profile] semistableman 2018-06-18 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[He might not exactly have been aware of the hell the Japanese went through at the time, but he's well aware of it now. He nods at her, not sure what to say, so he falls silent.]

It doesn't matter, really. War is war.
