Week 1.
WEEK 1. As Cynthia had promised, the sun does indeed rise the next morning. Whether you slept or not (and sleeping inside the Pokémon Center you were in before seems totally fine by the attendant), it seems Cynthia kept her word; she left sometime shortly before sunrise, and you haven't been bothered by Team Galactic and those that work for it in the interim. It isn't advisable to return to the headquarters building, however. At least not for the time being. However, a new day does dawn, and with it comes the knowledge that you're in an unfamiliar city, completely on your own. There are several things to be done before you can leave: gathering supplies and provisions, finding maps, obtaining new clothes... Of course, your new "companions" are still with you, and they don't seem willing to leave your side; they'll follow you dutifully, but they still seem...wrong, horribly so, and it doesn't seem to be wearing off. Maybe if you work with them a little...? Try to talk to them, train them, teach them to do things... Who knows? It might do them some good. POKEMON AVAILABLE: WITHIN CITIES MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY [OOC: Welcome to week one of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due this weekend! Feel free to investigate the city as you see fit this week; we ask only that you try to stagger investigations and be mindful of what's already been checked. If you wish to investigate, notify the mods in your comment subject for your top-level and we'll get on it as soon as possible!] |

MONDAY
investigation (game corner prompt)
There! Maybe that'll start cheering you up.
[It's a start, anyway. She's also going to try and hit up the Game Corner and poke around the machines. Is there any way to turn them on, are they plugged in? She's going to try and test if they still work.
Later, she's going to the edge of town, by the gateway out, but she's not going to try to leave. No, she's... trying to climb one of the trees.]
Maybe if we see where we're going from here...

After that though, her quest brings her to looking around the city. Getting a feel for it, admiring the architecture, seeing the creatures. Looking for stables. ... They will have horses somewhere in a community this big, right? There simply must be stables (there aren't stables) but also trying to talk to some of the residents.
It's worth noting that through all of this, as per Cynthia's suggestion that they're friends and that her friend is alive, she is having her beldum floating along behind her.
And as the day turns to night, Zelda's content to pitch a tent, but where they slept last night they didn't really get agreement on, did they? So she's actually looking around for an inn and when there isn't an obvious one she can find considering going back to the same spot or knocking on private residences to ask if she might stay with them. ... She's polite, of course! Eventually though, she will just return to the Pokemon Center. Probably.
So a busy day ]

['Can you...sense light?'
'To a degree, yes.'
'So, when dawn breaks...you'll know it.']
[Somewhere there was a world in which the sun rose, on Gladiolus Amicitia and Prompto Argentum rebuilding things from the ruins. They would do fine without him--it wasn't as if this was the first they had been separate for some time--but it still bothered Ignis to know that world was one moving forward without him, after he'd promised to-]
[...One thing at a time.]
[Once morning had set in a little more properly, Ignis and his canine companion ended up at the Department Store; gathering provisions didn't seem too daunting a task, with a hand lightly run over the disorganized shelves to get an idea of what he was dealing with. Basic survival gear--he'd learned how to utilize that from Gladio, thank the Astrals--some food, and perhaps a couple of those capsules. They seemed fairly important, after all. And speaking of important...once the essentials were taken care of, he sought out a pair of basic sunglasses while he was at it. That felt a bit more natural already, though he'd have to find Zelda for any substantial help with seeking out clothes.]
[It was a new day, setting forth once more in a world with endless possibilities and just as many disasters laid out before them.]
['Not exactly a fairy tale beginning, huh, Prince Noctis?']

Around midday after he's done a precursory exploration of town, Shirou can be found on the grass near the rock formations on the right side of town. There's no church here, so he'll have to make do without an altar, but that's alright. While he spends the majority of time here in silent prayer kneeling (his litleo obediently sitting beside him), once he's done praying he shifts to a more relaxed position, sitting on his knees. ]
Let's see...I'm afraid my partners are usually of the more combatitive type, but this is a pleasant change. [ As expected, there's no response from Litleo. ] Hm, perhaps it would be better if we started our contract anew. Your...paw, please.
[ This scene likely looks entirely too serious for a simple "give paw" command, but it is what it is. ]

He can be in the department store for a good hour or so, stuffing things into his backpack and generally looking like he's someone who is used to roughing it outside.
Later he can be found wandering through the city. He's changed out of the Team Galactic uniform, instead dressed in a thick sweater, hoodie, and wearing a baseball cap that has a logo on it of the strange red and white capsules his goat came from. He looks a lot calmer now that he's in street clothes, and has even pinned up his left sleeve. Which might look a little creepy, actually, because it's even more of a reminder that he only has the one arm, but he seems like he gets around just fine.
In the evening, Bucky can be found outside of the warehouse... pitching a tent, apparently. He can be found talking soothingly to the little goat at his side.]
You're staying in here, too. I've got some blankets for you. Figure the temperature is too low for you to sleep outside.
[Naturally, she doesn't react at all, but he pats her on her flank before offering her a berry, which she doesn't react to at all, so he sets it on the ground in front of her, sighing.]

But there's comfort in having a plan. Going to a lake and find deities...he's not sure if it'll work, but Cynthia seems to know what she's doing. He's willing to do what she says. For now he wants to prepare himself for the journey.
The Department Store is a good place to start. Kiryu keeps his companion out of the Pokeball at all times -- he's going to have to get over his apprehension once he has a bigger team, but right now he's keeping him out of the capsule so he's not cramped inside a ball -- and browses the selection, taking random supplies for now. They're going to need a lot of stuff for everyone, every single person better take stuff for themselves.
The travel guides get his attention. He picks up a few, extending the maps on the floor and studying them. One of them has a larger image of the island they're in, and he just saw the region of Kanto]
Wait, does this mean this world is a bizarre version of Japan?
[Sure does like it! Although Kanto is the only place he recognizes here.
That afternoon he goes back to the department store, looking for more stuff. There's also food. He takes some cans of nonperishables for himself, and finds bags of food for Pokemon. Nothing shows his companion, so he's not sure what to go for. Maybe Pancham knows?]
Which one would you like?
[No response, Pancham just looks at him with very, very vague confusion. Patiently, Kiryu picks up Pancham and holds him in front of the many bags of food]
Come on, make a choice. You'll get anything you want.
[He hopes treating Pancham like nothing's wrong will help him recover. He really hopes so.
That's also why he goes to the Game Corner. He stands behind a random table, having piled many chips, and encouraging Pancham to do the same. Of course, Pancham does it without complaint nor comment. Kiryu sighs]
It's depressing to see these little guys acting like this.

Investigation? Home invasion
Michael sets out to the department store fairly early. He's finally bothered to let his Purrloin out of her ball this morning, though he doesn't seem to be keeping her in mind very well; the little cat has to move pretty quick to keep up with his much longer strides.
Trivial as it may be, dressing more like himself does make him feel better. He seems almost relaxed as he samples some bow ties to go with his suit, eventually settling on one checked in a couple different shades of purple. It's far from green, after all, and the matching pocket square is nice.
Experimentally, he tries to store some ties in the Pokeball. When this doesn't work, he casts a thoughtful glance at Purrloin, and ties one around her neck before sending her into the Pokeball. Tie and cat vanish. Success! You may find him doing a quick set of experiments afterwards, calling and dismissing Purrloin with objects in various configurations: on her body, being held by her, larger things that she's just clinging to with her claws. Apparently it's all just driven by curiosity for the moment, because he doesn't end up using this trick to steal anything; yes, he'll pay the sad vacant cashier for his clothes like a decent person.
After this, he can be found having settled down for lunch with a copy of all the books and pamphlets available in the department store. He's flipping really quickly through them - must be some kind of speed reader. Purrloin is sitting on the table with the books, unenthusiastically eating her own meal.
Picking up basic survival supplies goes quicker, even if he does stop to get explanations about all the battle items from the lone employee on that floor. Once that's done...
...well, look, it's not breaking into people's private residences if the doors are open. He just wants to see what's in here!]

Even if he has a lot of issues with the fact that he was torn from his world against his will... this is absolutely fascinating. So, as soon as he picks up an outfit that's... not unlike this, but minus the hat and with a knee-length coat, he picks up a blank notebook and some pens and heads straight to the book department of the Veilstone Department Store and sort of... parks himself there for a while. Certainly, it's not quite like a library... but it's quiet enough, so he hits the books hard enough that he resembles a student cramming for finals. If a student cramming for finals had a jellyfish handing him books every so often, of course. There's one thing that stands out to him as he's browsing, though...]
...nothing about him, huh. What kind of self-made god doesn't demand a glowing autobiography on every bookshelf? Come to think of it, there aren't any statues, either...
[Well, anyway, after picking up a few supplies for......... camping...... he guesses.... and some of those Pokeball things, he leaves for the open space in front of the Gym, where he's set up a little target made out of sticks and also his Galactic outfit.]
Well, alright. Let's see what you can do, then. Though... I should ask you to be gentle, since I might need this thing at some point. You seem intelligent enough to follow instructions so far, so I'm going to trust you with this.
[The Frillish nods obediently and... well... it does blow a few fairly impressive bubbles at the target, and it does soak the area with Water Sport, but once it accomplishes those, it... stares kind of vacantly at the target... touches it with a tentacle, then turns to look at Kayneth... and kind of shrugs.]
Huh. Is that it?
[head shake.]
...hmm. Maybe I should ask someone about how you're supposed to know how these things work.

Eh, it’s not really something he wants to think about right now. So when the sun rises, he’s out of the Pokémon Center and exploring the city.
The department store catches his interest first, and since he desperately needs new clothes, it’s a good place to start looking. Just like everywhere else, the people here don’t seem to care about the Team Galactic uniform or anything, really. At least Cynthia left us all money? He’d feel kind of bad about not paying given the state they’re in...
You can find Yuri checking out the clothing with Roc at his feet. He seems to be stuck deciding between two outfits...]
What do you think? Red’s not really my color... but neither is gray. The pants on this one will make running harder... Hmm.
[It seems like he’s talking to the dog again. Roc doesn’t respond, she just watches as he picks up the hat that goes with the second outfit.]
...Yeah, it would make me look like a thug, wouldn’t it?
[Definitely.
After deciding to go with the first outfit, Yuri’s ditched the Team Galactic uniform and switched into that. Of course he’s left the shirt undone down to his chest because why would he ever button it up all the way?? But you know what, at least he’s wearing something else, even if red really isn’t his color. He’s also picked up a backpack (to shove the Galactic uniform in, just in case he needs it later) and he’s currently got that on one shoulder as he browses the books.
Yuri’s not exactly a scholarly type, but he’s got his nose buried in a book about Pokémon battling and he’s... reading aloud to the dog, because of course he is.]
Fire beats Grass, Grass beats Water, Water beats Fire. Simple enough. But then there’s stuff like Flying and Ghost and Ice... How is anyone supposed to keep all this straight?
[He sighs and sets the book down in a stack of other books he’s collected. It looks like he’s at least been trying to research things about this world; there’s a book full of information about Veilstone City in the pile, along with some other books on basic Pokémon information.
After a moment of looking over the books, Yuri will turn and notice you.]
Oh, hey. You find anything useful here? Don’t get your hopes up for any weapons, I’ve already checked the entire place.

The first place she stops is the Department Store, and seems to be more than content to grab everything she can. Camilla seems to have a veritable pile of stuff with her; she's got just about everything she really needs, and a fair amount that's...honestly, a tad excessive. A fair portion of that is books on Pokemon care and the like; it seems that she's taken the idea of befriending these creatures to heart. Of course, most of that stuff is being held guard by Deino at the moment, as Camilla comes out from a dressing room in a new outfit, the galactic uniform and wig in her arms in a pile.]
There we are. This is so much better looking than any of that garbage. Would you agree, dear?
[Deino doesn't give much of a response, but Camilla chuckles as she goes down to pet the creature with a smile. She loves it, so it's staying on.
A little later on, she's actually going to be back in the Pokemon Center, with a good amount of bags beside her. Of course, that may be eclipsed by what she has taking up a table. The supplies were definitely harder to find than Camilla anticipated, but it's worth it to have some yarn, thread, fabric, knitting needles and regular needles out. As it stands, she seems to be working on a patchwork blanket, with alternating blue and black patches. She measures the blanket on Deino, who sits beside her, while she does it, seeming to be more than content with having something to do.
Of course, if you happen to come into the center, Camilla will wave you over once she looks up with a smile.]
Excuse me, may I borrow your partner for a moment? I won't need them for too long, I promise.
[It looks like she's got some sort of measurement tool out, so it's probably something hobby related, if nothing else.
Of course, much, much later, Camilla can actually be found wandering around town. It's not without purpose, of course; from the looks of it, Camilla has one of the many books she's purchased out, and Deino follows close at her heels as she seems to seek out Pokemon around the town.
It's once she finds a little group of Misdreavus that Camilla has Deino stop, and she points them out to her partner.]
I trust you know how to fight these, darling? It says that you need to fight other Pokemon in order to get big and strong...and you seem to have an advantage against these. [Deino doesn't seem to give any indication of whether it understands or not, but Camilla simply smiles and points to them.] How about we test that out? Arion, eliminate these pests.
[...wait, oh, right, Camilla flips plucks another book out from her purse that she bought with her outfit and looks up Deino's moves--]
How about...Dragon Rage, was it? Use Dragon Rage.
[Well, that's enough of an order for Deino to go on the offensive. The fire that comes out at the Misdreavus are enough to make most of them scatter, though the one that takes the brunt of the hit still seems to be able to move.
...She's gonna be at this for a good, long while. God help these creatures.]

It's horrifying. But Rey is used to nightmares, so when she awakens the next morning, she doesn't dwell on them. It's time to obtain supplies, so she flicks her head towards the door and helps Golett to stand.]
Let's go.
[It's still hard for her to believe that Golett is actually a living creature; the droid-like behaviour combined with its (his? her) general physiology still has her correcting herself whenever she thinks of her odd companion as a machine. It still isn't showing any signs of emotion, or free thought - wherever she goes, it calmly stomps along behind her. In a way, though, it's...almost kind of nice, and Rey doesn't go out of her way to discourage Golett from accompanying her. It's calming, knowing it's there. Just happy to follow her.]
Looks like that 'Department Store' is just up ahead.
[Go-lett.]
...I really do wish you'd say something else occasionally.
[Any concerns she may have around Golett's communication skills are completely dashed once Rey makes it inside the Department Store. Despite herself, her jaw drops.
There's....so much stuff, and she's hit with the stark reminder that she's never been in a store before. Cynthia had said she'd cover all her expenses, but Rey doesn't even know where to begin; she's got an idea of the types of equipment she wants to get, but Cynthia had also mentioned clothing...one look at the endless racks of colourful garments that the Department Store offers leads Rey to believe she might not be able to find her usual brown robes.]
...right. Let's....let's get started.
[Go-lett.]
[If you also happen to be shopping, you can find Rey in one of three locations:
> In the Book section, excitedly flicking through a guide to Sinnoh's Pokemon
> Trying very very hard not to just grab the entire shelf of non-perishable food in the Food section. There's...there's so much food....
> S u f f e r i n g in the clothing section; she's currently holding up this jacket and this dress, trying to not look as confused as she's feeling, while Golett is holding two more outfits. Help her.]

So now she has a bunch of mostly fruits and single-serve cereal cups at the table she's sat at, and now and again she reaches towards the Bagon standing still at her feet with a snack in her hand that the creature will only eat when she asks it to. She smiles, though, and greets anyone making their way through.]
Good morning. Did you sleep well?
[there's definitely too much breakfast happening here for one person. maybe she'll share if you ask nice? or if you ask rude. or if you don't ask.
She only spends enough time in the department store to get herself out of that godawful uniform, but the fact that she doesn't know how to travel except in a convoy's carriage is a problem for future Emmeryn, and for now she's changed into a long white dress and a green cardigan, all dangerously close to formal wear, or maybe she's just this fancy as a person in general all the time?? Historically speaking, though, supply gathering has been a job for people who aren't her, so she's much more interested in wandering about the city (in heels?? Emm???? Emm is the aesthetic this important????) with her Bagon at her feet. She slows her pace to match its stubby legs, but also just so she can marvel at everything around her. The city isn't so distracting that she won't wave politely at anyone she passes by (including, unfortunately, the NPC people husks), but there's still the sense that she's never really seen anything like this before...
Come the early evening, she does return to the Pokémon Center again, taking a seat in the front lobby as people start to filter in for the night. Her Bagon hasn't been put back in its ball since yesterday (mmmaybe in part because she can't figure out how), and she leans over in her seat to hand it food where it stands at her feet and coos fondly each time it actually takes a bite. Everyone coming in gets a friendly greeting, but she's especially interested in those of you who have your Pokémon out with you.]
Have you decided on a name for your companion?

department store + gym (investigation?)
He's gotten the Chimchar on his shoulder a little white scarf to match, although he's not entirely convinced the little guy appreciates it since it's not responding while he tentatively wraps it around its neck.]
Um...I should really call you something, right? It doesn't feel right just calling you a Chimchar...
[He says that, but it's a monkey, so that only ever brings one person to mind. Sena's not sure if his friend would be offended or flattered that Sena immediately thinks to name his new partner after him.]
...Monta? How does that sound?
["Monta" doesn't seem to care, either way.] Aha...maybe I should be like Suzuna, and call you "Mon-Mon" instead? No, definitely not...way too weird...
[Later on, while wandering around the town, Sena's attention gets caught by the gym's sign. He's an athlete, it's only natural he'd be drawn to physical activity. But...the doors are locked, and nobody's answering the door...and Sena's just barely tall enough to pull himself up to look through the windows.]
Neh, Monta? Do you see anyone in there?

TUESDAY

Okay, look, I've still got no idea why the fuck you've got pants, but we're gonna do something about it or you're going to trip over 'em.
[...This is a conversation happening in the department store first thing in the morning, because of course it is. Jake is currently standing around in what he's pretty sure is the little kids' department, going through accessories and shit while he just keeps talking, more to himself than the Pokémon.]
Why did God feel the need to give you pants. Why did Cyrus let you keep the pants. He got rid of the souls, you'd think he'd do something about the pants.
[The lizard just stares for a moment before just...grabbing the skin Jake is referring to and pulling it up to his chin while Jake just straight-up deadeyes him.]
...Okay, that doesn't tell me shit but it is really weirding me out. So just. Don't. All right?
[...Aaand down it goes, while Jake goes back to the racks and eventually finds exactly what he's looking for, and long story short that is how his lizard ends up with his pants hoisted up to a reasonable level and held in place with a pair of suspenders.
Yeah.
That said, he doesn't seem bothered by this turn of events, and he lets Jake look him over once that's done.]
...Well, congratulations. You're a man now.
[Jake...
Anyway.
Once that's out of the way, Jake can be found in the gym, now that he's noticed that someone got it open yesterday; this place is calming, it gives him somewhere to be where he can just beat shit up to his heart's content, and punching bags and mats don't tend to care if you punch them. And he certainly does seem to know what he's doing in here; his strikes are hard and precise, and he's more than comfortable going at things barehanded. He'll pause eventually, though he doesn't seem to be out of breath at all; he'll glance over once he notices he isn't alone.]
I'm surprised they have something like this here; it seems a little out of place, if you ask me.
[...Right.
Come nighttime, though, he's not going to be in the Center with a bunch of the others that are still staying there, at least not yet; he can be found near the entrance to the route at the southern entrance to the city, sitting on the ground near the trees with his Scraggy parked in his lap. He's not paying the Pokémon much mind, though; he's picking up small rocks on the ground nearby and tossing them, sending them clattering across the pathway and once in a while pausing to stare up at the stars. Once in a while he'll raise his hand toward them as though pointing out some of them to himself, trying to find and trace constellations that simply aren't there; it's...frustrating him, really, not recognizing the sky, though he sure as hell can't explain why, even to himself.]

But that doesn't leave him with much else to do until it's time for everyone to leave town, except for attempting to get some idea of how to work with his Klink. First thing in the morning, you can find him speaking to it in the Pokemon Center. The Pokemon's been floating non-stop even when Ari had slept, or at least he think it might have, as he woke up to see that it was floating in the same spot he had seen it in before the past night.]
... Are you tired?
[No response. Not even a noise, just those gears turning.]
Hungry?
[...]
Do you even eat?
[...]
I... guess I'll take that as a no?
[...]
Do you have a name you want to be called by? Something like just referring to you as "Gears" or "Machine" seems impersonal. So does "Klink", kind of... is that like naming a cat "Cat", or...
[Still nothing. Ari sighs. He honestly can't even tell if the Pokemon is actually listening or ignoring him. It's not like he wouldn't be used to that sort of treatment, though.
Regardless, eventually he be found again outside by those rock formations to the south of town. He came here to see if maybe the change in scenery would do the Pokemon any good, and he has one of those books from the department store about Pokemon in his hands here.]
It says here that training and taking part in battles will help you grow stronger... do you want to give it a try?
[But instead of pointing out a wild Pokemon roaming nearby for Klink to train against, Ari is picking up a stick from the ground here, holding it like you'd expect someone experienced with a sword to do.
... Is Ari actually going to fight his own Pokemon with a stick.]

First things first, she goes to the gym and makes use of the meager equipment. It's lacking in so much, but at least there's weights. She doesn't feel out of shape, but she can't shake the feeling that she didn't see too much action in the last... however long she was under, and if she's going to be traveling she certainly doesn't want to be lagging behind. So she's on one of the weight benches, running through a variety of different exercises. Torchic is sitting on a stack of tires nearby, not doing much of anything. As usual.
After the gym, she can be found sitting outside the department store, poring over a book on Sinnoh Pokemon and doing her best to absorb as much information as possible. She stops on a certain page, and looks up to examine Torchic. She squints a little, then slowly turns the unresponsive chick around.]
...Ah. You're female.
[Evening is when she gets to work. She leaves the Pokemon Center and starts to patrol the borders of the town, peering into the treeline and stopping to examine those two small buildings that seem to lead out. She might be hard to see as it gets darker, as her new attire is rather muted in color, but you may spy Torchic's bright orange plumage as she follows her master.
Morag skulks around all the available locations in Veilstone, although she stops at the steps leading up to the Galactic building. She'd rather observe that from a distance.

She's up early this morning, having taken her Audino Ichigo for a walk around the city. She's talking to the Pokemon, even if it doesn't seem to be responding.]
I hope that once you're feeling more like yourself that we'll be able to sing together. Not onstage or anything, but singing is something that is fun and can cheer people up. What do you think, Ichigo?
[No response, but Aya's going to work on it.
Later that day, she's at the department store, dressed in a frilly outfit. She doesn't have a microphone, but she's still singing something poppy-sounding. Ichigo seems to be listening, at least, if it's not doing much more.]

a little investigation towards the end!
So he tracks down a murder of Murkrow near the meteor craters, looks for anything that might make them stand out as particularly worth catching, debates a bit... and then throws a Pokeball at one of them.
...AND HEY IT WORKS.]
...you know, it seems like it's supposed to be harder than that.
[WELL, ANYHOW, after catching his very second Pokemon, he's just kind of... roaming the city with his Frillish trailing behind and said Murkrow perched on his shoulder looking for any of the 24 people who have actual emotions here, because it's honestly less unnerving to interact with them than the locals. If he sees you (and you aren't someone who he actually hates at the moment, like Michael), he'll wave a bit cheerfully and approach with a question.]
Excuse me, would you like to help me with a project?
[After his little experiment, later on in the evening... he's going to check out the Galactic Warehouse. Like, certainly, it's locked, but maybe there's something there to find if he does a little searching...]

MEETING TIME
We've been in this city for a few days now, and I estimate we'll likely be fully prepared to venture forth in a couple more. None of us are in our element in an utterly foreign world, so I think it wise we should discuss what we've observed, if anything, of our environment so far. Anything, even the seemingly insignificant, may prove valuable information going forth.

Department Store
Yep, he's back there again. He went in to look for information about Pancham. He had sent Daigo hunting and the results were...decent enough. Not perfect, but at least he's sure Daigo won't starve to death. But he's not sure what exactly this species should eat, so he went to search for information.
He got what seems to be a children's book. There's a Pancham on the cover, drawn with a cute style, and waving cheerfully. It seems to be no more than a story for children, and Kiryu's reading it carefully, in case there's information that could be of use. It's such a strange thing, seeing a grown and strong man like Kiryu reading a book for children with such attention...
Later he's at the gym, standing on a boxing ring and leaning on the ropes. Daigo is nearby, with a punching bag, giving it some rather unimpressive punches. Looks like a rather mechanical thing, there's no strength or energy behind the moves. It's depressing, really]
You're doing good.
[From time to time Kiryu says something encouraging, although it sounds a bit forced. Maybe it's because it's like talking to a robot]
