Week 1.

WEEK 1. As Cynthia had promised, the sun does indeed rise the next morning. Whether you slept or not (and sleeping inside the Pokémon Center you were in before seems totally fine by the attendant), it seems Cynthia kept her word; she left sometime shortly before sunrise, and you haven't been bothered by Team Galactic and those that work for it in the interim. It isn't advisable to return to the headquarters building, however. At least not for the time being. However, a new day does dawn, and with it comes the knowledge that you're in an unfamiliar city, completely on your own. There are several things to be done before you can leave: gathering supplies and provisions, finding maps, obtaining new clothes... Of course, your new "companions" are still with you, and they don't seem willing to leave your side; they'll follow you dutifully, but they still seem...wrong, horribly so, and it doesn't seem to be wearing off. Maybe if you work with them a little...? Try to talk to them, train them, teach them to do things... Who knows? It might do them some good. Yeah, definitely. It's been a wild ride. And if I hadn't been dragged here, I'm sure we'd still be pretty busy.

I am certain that is true, even from what you've told me so far.

What can I say, we're just busy people.

So, can you make any sense of that? It just looks like mechanical parts to me, no indication of how it'd contain a creature.

[ Glancing over the thing... ]

Not yet... but with some experimentation, perhaps I can. Anything with a design like this was made by people, and as long as that's true, it can be understood.

[ Or so she says, but wow, this might be even harder than she thought. This doesn't look familiar like... at all. She can barely even grasp a theory. ]

I like your confidence. I hope you can make some sense of it. It's definitely beyond my understanding.

We are starting from not dissimilar places. If there are things to be learned, we might both be able to.

It is simply a fact, Yuri.

... Do you think these form any sort of letters?

[ The circuits... she stands and holds it up to him ]

[He'll approach so he can get a better look, though after a moment he'll tip his head a bit.]

Maybe if you squint and look at 'em just right. But no, I'm not seeing any letters.

It might be an alphabet neither of us recognizes, but... no, I don't see a clear pattern. Which would likely mean the source is not Runes.

Runes, huh? I'm not familiar with them, could you tell me more?

[hyruglyphics]

Oh, certainly. They're one of the cornerstones of ancient Sheikah technology, something of a focusing element when compared to other parts of their work. Usually, this takes the form of script written in an old dialect of the Hylian language, sometimes collected within a Guidance stone or ... well, the Sheikah Slate can also contain more complex ones, capable of manifesting magic.

Huh, sounds complicated. What's the Sheikah Slate?

A handheld device we found years ago. It serves as a conduit for many of the shrines ... in theory.

[fatalstrikes]

What kind of shrines are we talking here?

[hyruglyphics]

Shrines that the ancient Sheikah dotted throughout the land. Many of them are hidden or buried within the earth until certain conditions are met.

[fatalstrikes]

Seriously? How do you know how to get them to open?

[hyruglyphics]

Truthfully, [ and here she sounds annoyed- ] I never managed it! We had been working to bypass their seals, but they were meant only for the chosen hero... So Link ended up being the one to open them.

[fatalstrikes]

The chosen hero, huh...

[Man, this Link guy sounds pretty great.]

Did you ever get to see what they look like, at least?

[hyruglyphics]

Only the exterior... I've yet to have the chance to go inside of one.

[ She lets the chosen hero thing sit ]

Here's hoping you get that chance someday. I'm sure you'd really enjoy seeing it, yeah?

Oh course I will! Oh, the things I could see inside of there... I would love to see that trials they put together, or how they function.

Trials? Was this some kind of "prove your worth, o chosen hero" thing?

[hyruglyphics]

Yes, actually. The nature of them isn't clear, but apparently ancient monks had devised trials to ensure the hero was capable of completing their task.

So did the chosen hero save the day? Did he complete all their tasks and everything?
