WEEK 1.

As Cynthia had promised, the sun does indeed rise the next morning.

Whether you slept or not (and sleeping inside the Pokémon Center you were in before seems totally fine by the attendant), it seems Cynthia kept her word; she left sometime shortly before sunrise, and you haven't been bothered by Team Galactic and those that work for it in the interim.

It isn't advisable to return to the headquarters building, however. At least not for the time being.

However, a new day does dawn, and with it comes the knowledge that you're in an unfamiliar city, completely on your own. There are several things to be done before you can leave: gathering supplies and provisions, finding maps, obtaining new clothes...

Of course, your new "companions" are still with you, and they don't seem willing to leave your side; they'll follow you dutifully, but they still seem...wrong, horribly so, and it doesn't seem to be wearing off. Maybe if you work with them a little...? Try to talk to them, train them, teach them to do things... Who knows? It might do them some good.

It definitely saves a lot of time. Trying to navigate the whole world without being able to fly would be a real pain.

...Okay, when it comes to "the whole world", I suspect I'm gonna make your head explode but just hear me out, okay?

You know how you've got your Empire and your...guilds, I guess, and basically your entire world sounds like it's got maybe a few hundred thousand people in it from how you talk about it?

Where I'm from, we've got seven billion people, split up into one hundred ninety-four countries, and at least forty of those countries hate each other at any given time. The place the Americans come from is a pretty powerful one. The Bengalis I mentioned come from somewhere else, they're from Bangladesh, which is halfway around the world. Edonia's somewhere between 'em.

So I might be mentioning a lot of places to you; my job's taken me clear around the world a whole lot of times.

And here I thought we were world travelers. We've gone to places of Terca Lumireis that there's barely any information on, but it sounds like our whole world would be just a tiny portion of yours. I can barely imagine just how huge your world must be.

It's not something I'd really thought about...? But there's everything you're talking about, and Rey is...she kinda talks like an entire planet is just one mass of people, you know? So I guess the world I'm from is pretty big by comparison, yeah.

That's crazy... I mean, I knew our worlds were different, but hearing that there's a world out there that's so huge... it's kind of mind-blowing.

So what about the people there? Are they all human or do you have others like the Kritya or the Entelexeia?

All the people are human, yeah. We've got other things, like animals, but they're not people; we've also got a bunch of B.O.W.s, but they aren't people, either.

B.O.W.s are the people-turned-monsters?

Yeah. Usually they're people, sometimes they're animals that got turned. Depends.

So even animals aren't immune? Huh. What turns them into monsters, exactly?

You're right when you say they aren't immune - it's usually some kind of virus. Scientists like coming up with new and creative ways to fuck people up from the inside and spread 'em around all the time.

It's gotten pretty bad over the last few years. People are trying to end the world.

End the world? By spreading this virus to everything and everyone they can, I'm guessing?

Yeah. They've tried it twice now - different people both times.

Twice? I am so sorry.

Your world's not currently in danger, is it?

Not any more than it usually is.

There are still bioterrorists out there - if your world doesn't have those, they're not a hard concept to get. They're people who wage war using viruses and chemicals as weapons, stuff that's designed to mess living things up. The people that tried to end the world are bioterrorists, but not all of them want to end the world. Most of 'em just want to raise hell and make money doing it.

So those sorts of people are still around, but none of the real bad ones are acting up at the moment.

Yeah, we definitely don't have anyone like that. My world seems pretty tame in comparison.

[Not that it doesn't have its problems, but at least no one's trying to infect everyone with viruses that turn people and animals into monsters?? What the fuck.]

It's good that things aren't any worse than usual, at least. I'm guessing there's a lot of these people and it'd be damn near impossible to catch them all?

Yeah. Some of us are trying, though.

[...It's weird to word it that way, and he kind of pauses once that's out there like he's not sure if he wants to change that or not - but no, it's some of us now, he's helping those kids in the Middle East and Sherry's doing the bureaucratic shit, and it's gonna work out in the end.]

It's not really easy, but it's something to do, I guess.

[He sounds amused but he'd be doing the exact same thing if he was from your world. Thankfully he isn't?? He's very happy being from his world with awful people who at least don't try to infect everyone with viruses.]

Here's hoping you guys manage to put a stop to all of that someday.

Yeah. She doesn't always drag me in, but she's the sort of person who can't sit by when people are hurt. She'll always do her best to help others, even if it means putting herself in a bad position.

The sort that would save the world all by herself if she had to. And she'd manage, too.
