Week 1.

WEEK 1. As Cynthia had promised, the sun does indeed rise the next morning. Whether you slept or not (and sleeping inside the Pokémon Center you were in before seems totally fine by the attendant), it seems Cynthia kept her word; she left sometime shortly before sunrise, and you haven't been bothered by Team Galactic and those that work for it in the interim. It isn't advisable to return to the headquarters building, however. At least not for the time being. However, a new day does dawn, and with it comes the knowledge that you're in an unfamiliar city, completely on your own. There are several things to be done before you can leave: gathering supplies and provisions, finding maps, obtaining new clothes... Of course, your new "companions" are still with you, and they don't seem willing to leave your side; they'll follow you dutifully, but they still seem...wrong, horribly so, and it doesn't seem to be wearing off. Maybe if you work with them a little...? Try to talk to them, train them, teach them to do things... Who knows? It might do them some good. I heard them from mother and from Urbosa when I was a little girl. What interest I kept in them over time... well, legends are the leftovers of history, and they are also the seeds of faith. Both of those were important to what I needed to accomplish, andso they lingered.

Oh, yeah? And what is it you were accomplishing? If you don't mind answering.

I needed to awaken a power destined to me by my bloodline, and so I prayed to the ancient spirits and gods, to try to quicken the process. [ Err... ] ... The power to seal the Calamity.

[ It's... bizarre, to have to explain that. ]

[God, he doesn't have much patience for bloodlines and legacies.]

[ A very complicated look comes over her face, for just a moment... ]

[ But then she shakes her head and smiles. No need to dwell on... on all that. ] I did! I played my part and in the end, we were victorious.

[And that sounds actually genuine, not sarcastic; seriously, good job, Zelda.]

Saved the world and everything, I'm guessing?

Link did the majority of the work, but we saved Hyrule.

Good to know we've got some actual heroes around here - makes sense, though, given what you were talking about with Cynthia. Saving everyone and stuff.

[ she looks... embarrassed, but not enough she's going to back down as she answers, ]

It simply... seemed cruel to ignore the plight of these people. After conversations I had with the townsfolk here, I honestly feel even more strongly about that.

You've got more patience than me, lady; I couldn't talk to 'em if you told me to.

I haven't been beating them up, though.

I'm glad to hear that.

[ She bows her head and... ]

... I think those who feel anything are sent to Team Galactic for reeducation.

[...OKAY, THAT'S- ]

Whoa, whoa - what?

One of my longer conversations was with a man and asked him if many people in town work at that Galactic building, and I was told that those who need it go there, it "gives them purpose," and "cures them as imperfections."

[ As she says this, she's trembling with an uneasy feeling and rage in almost equal measure. ]

To be chosen to go there is an honor... apparently.

[bloodspent]

Jesus Christ, what the fuck is this world's problem?! Good to know people are just selected to go off into that building to get their brains scrambled with a fucking blender once in a while!

[...Okay. Okay, let's not. Scream at Zelda. It's not like she did anything wrong.]

Almost all of the houses in this town were able to offer me a spare bed.

[ It's a lot of people.

She does wince at his words, but...honestly, she feels a similar anger. ]

Fucking- ...Okay. O-kay. That explains a lot, that. Explains a lot, there were a fucklot of people in that building, so...

Do you think the rest of the cities are like this? Because god, I will not be surprised.

Nor would I, if they have other bases dotted across this land. Or perhaps, even send everyone to this one.

[ And it's infuriating. ]

So. If we get a chance to do it without everybody dying, are you opposed to us kicking this guy's ass, too?

[hyruglyphics]

Of course not!

[ She seems surprised he would think that? ]

I opposed you inflicting violence on those people because we did not know they were our enemies, but Cyrus certainly has shown himself to be!

[bloodspent]

Okay, good.

[...]

I'm not doubting you or anything, I just didn't know if that was a pacifism thing or a circumstance thing, or what. Better to ask, you know?

[hyruglyphics]

[ She exhales and ] I personally have no aptitude for battle, but those I fought alongside were warriors willing to stand against the truest evil Hyrule knows and numerous horrors brought about because of it. I don't oppose violence on principle but...

Even in violence, there is a need to be tempered, and a need for mercy. At the time, we didn't know what curse has been inflicted upon those people, and now that I know that they were innocent people, who did not even make a choice... I stand by it all the more.

Cyrus has made choices. And while out of respect for Cynthia, I do feel that we ought not to try to kill the man, I do not oppose defeating him.

[bloodspent]

[He's quiet for a moment at that. Picks up a couple more of those small rocks and sends them skittering across the path while he thinks that over.]

Look, Cynthia... She seemed like a good person and everything, don't get me wrong. And maybe she knows better than I do. But she seemed to know Cyrus somehow, and I gotta wonder if that's what's influencing her to tell us to not kill him.

Because I've dealt with people who've tried to do shit to the world. People who've tried to end it, or rule it, or...whatever the fuck this one lady thought she was trying to do, I never really understood her. But either way, people like that? They don't learn until you put 'em down.

I mean, say we defeat Cyrus. Somehow, we just non-fatally kick his ass. Then what?

[ She inhales... and exhales. ]

... Then we must work out how to reverse this. His death might not accomplish that.

...I have a hard time seeing how it would, actually, yeah.
