Week 1.
WEEK 1. As Cynthia had promised, the sun does indeed rise the next morning. Whether you slept or not (and sleeping inside the Pokémon Center you were in before seems totally fine by the attendant), it seems Cynthia kept her word; she left sometime shortly before sunrise, and you haven't been bothered by Team Galactic and those that work for it in the interim. It isn't advisable to return to the headquarters building, however. At least not for the time being. However, a new day does dawn, and with it comes the knowledge that you're in an unfamiliar city, completely on your own. There are several things to be done before you can leave: gathering supplies and provisions, finding maps, obtaining new clothes... Of course, your new "companions" are still with you, and they don't seem willing to leave your side; they'll follow you dutifully, but they still seem...wrong, horribly so, and it doesn't seem to be wearing off. Maybe if you work with them a little...? Try to talk to them, train them, teach them to do things... Who knows? It might do them some good. Yeah! Guns have their place and I definitely appreciate the good ones, but I don't use 'em unless I have to. I've always felt better just facing people personally, you know?

[Especially now that she can't...you know, feel the Force anymore. She didn't think she'd end up missing her little blaster, but it would definitely be nice to have it back.

I've never really fought just with my hands, though...or, well, I should say, I've learned that when I only use my hands I don't tend to win.
[That was a hard lesson, made all the harder by the starvation that set in after her valuable finds were stolen.
Looking around the gym and continuing to admire all of the equipment, Rey suddenly appears to notice something interesting - if the way she quickly trots over to one of the collections of items means anything.]
I do tend to win, however, when I use one of these.
[The weapon she pulls out is a long, thin bō staff, and from the way she twirls it, she's not unused to having one in her hands.]

Actually? Not really. It's one of those things where it'd probably be a good idea to pick it up at some point, but I haven't managed it yet.

Maybe you can teach me some useful hand-to-hand combat moves in exchange.

You know what, I'd like that. I don't mind self-taught; necessity's as good a teacher as any, and I'm guessing that's what you were looking at.

I mean, it's not all that complicated - not compared to piloting, anyway. But I like to think I learned some useful tricks.
[That, and just slamming the damn thing against your opponent's forehead tends to work very very well. Moving closer to Jake, Rey places her free hand against the bag he's been using.]
What about you? Did someone teach you all that? You look like you could do some damage.

Yeah. The guys I started out with were all older than me, they looked out for me when I was first starting out. Made sure I was established with the others, made sure I didn't try to take on anyone that was gonna fuck me up too bad. Kept an eye on me and all. I didn't really appreciate it at the time - I wanted to be treated like the grown-ups, you know?
[He sounds fine with discussing it, though; he doesn't mind talking about it at all. It's just kind of how things were.]
But they were pretty great, all things considered. Taught me how to fight, taught me how to shoot. I didn't have anyone else at the time, so they really saved my ass.

I had something similar, actually; there were a couple of older scavengers who helped me from time to time. I wouldn't call them friends, but...their presence was nice. I learned a lot from them.

[It's impossible to ignore the way her brain immediately finishes off that sentence with 'who actually wanted to teach me', neatly interconnecting it with memories of both Luke Skywalker slamming the door in her face, and the way the purple glow of their interconnected lightsabers reflected in Kylo Ren's eyes.
