Week 1.

WEEK 1. As Cynthia had promised, the sun does indeed rise the next morning. Whether you slept or not (and sleeping inside the Pokémon Center you were in before seems totally fine by the attendant), it seems Cynthia kept her word; she left sometime shortly before sunrise, and you haven't been bothered by Team Galactic and those that work for it in the interim. It isn't advisable to return to the headquarters building, however. At least not for the time being. However, a new day does dawn, and with it comes the knowledge that you're in an unfamiliar city, completely on your own. There are several things to be done before you can leave: gathering supplies and provisions, finding maps, obtaining new clothes... Of course, your new "companions" are still with you, and they don't seem willing to leave your side; they'll follow you dutifully, but they still seem...wrong, horribly so, and it doesn't seem to be wearing off. Maybe if you work with them a little...? Try to talk to them, train them, teach them to do things... Who knows? It might do them some good. Yeah, actually. How'd you know?

Where I'm from, pharaohs were kings of this desert country a long time ago - or, well, I guess some of 'em were ladies too, but it doesn't really matter, the title was the same. It sounds similar enough.

Huh, really? What are the odds of that...?

But yeah, he lives out in the desert, we tried to track him down out there at one point. It went about as well as you'd expect.

You know, a lot of your names for stuff are kinda like that? Vesperia is like...I don't know, vesperae, which is all stuff that has to do with evening or nighttime? So guessing it's about some kind of star wasn't too hard. And Terca Lumireis is kind of...okay, I'm trying to think of a language where Terca doesn't mean Tuesday and I'm coming up blank, but if I had to guess you guys were going with something closer to terra? Which has to do with the world. And Lumireis sounds like it has to do with light or something. I dunno, "world of light" sounds like a really fantasy-world way of naming something.

Whoa. It's kind of crazy that it translates so well into your world's languages. It's also kind of crazy that you know this stuff off the top of your head.

And now that I think about it, I guess it's also pretty crazy that we're speaking the same language to begin with.

I mean, it's also pretty crazy that we can understand Zelda and some of the others, too, when you put it like that.

[Zelda and, like, the dog guy are the ones that come immediately to mind with regards to being obviously kind of Weird.]

Yeah. Man, why'd I have to think about it, now it's going to drive me crazy...

Apparently not... And here I thought I'd already heard a lot of crazy things that were going to do my head in back home.

So what sort of stuff were you dealing with, anyway? You and that guild of yours.

[fatalstrikes]

A lot of things. My whole adventure started because someone stole the blastia core that powered the only water source in the Lower Quarter. That's where all the poor people live in Zaphias, capital city of the Empire. I went looking for it, got arrested for breaking into a noble's house, escaped the castle with Estelle and ditched town. Things kind of got out of control from there.

[He doesn't sound like he regrets any of it, though.]

Jesus. Some people have all the fun.

We got attacked by an assassin while we were in the castle too. And now he pops out of nowhere sometimes just trying to kill me, so that's... fun.

God, I know how that goes. Some people show up to a job and then they're like the worst ex-girlfriend, I get it.

You've had that experience too? I thought I was the only one who just couldn't get rid of him. As much as it sucks, it's good to hear I'm not alone in that, at least.

Oh, trust me, you are definitely not alone. Bit of a shitty club to be in, but you're not the only member.

So who's been chasing you down?

Well, he's not chasing me down anymore, I think we finally got rid of him. But it took a long-ass time to make the guy actually get the hint.

He was one of those B.O.W. guys that I told you about. Still seemed to have his brain halfway on, though. The Americans called him Ustanak, which is like...ustanička, I guess? It means "revolution."

So why'd they name him "revolution", exactly? Seems like a bad choice for a guy who just wanted to hunt you down.

Because the chick that created him has a sick sense of humor, I guess. Her name's Ada, she's one of those people that was trying to end the world. She was using her fucking B.O.W.s to do it.
