azume | Week 1.

WEEK 1.

As Cynthia had promised, the sun does indeed rise the next morning.

Whether you slept or not (and sleeping inside the Pokémon Center you were in before seems totally fine by the attendant), it seems Cynthia kept her word; she left sometime shortly before sunrise, and you haven't been bothered by Team Galactic and those that work for it in the interim.

It isn't advisable to return to the headquarters building, however. At least not for the time being.

However, a new day does dawn, and with it comes the knowledge that you're in an unfamiliar city, completely on your own. There are several things to be done before you can leave: gathering supplies and provisions, finding maps, obtaining new clothes...

Of course, your new "companions" are still with you, and they don't seem willing to leave your side; they'll follow you dutifully, but they still seem...wrong, horribly so, and it doesn't seem to be wearing off. Maybe if you work with them a little...? Try to talk to them, train them, teach them to do things... Who knows? It might do them some good.

I read a book about the matter. Looks like when a trainer encounters a wild Pokemon, the trainer's Pokemon and the wild Pokemon fight to see who is stronger. If the wild Pokemon is defeated, you can try capturing them, and your superior strength inspires them to join you instead of breaking out of the Pokeball.

[He got all that from a children's book. They seemed the best to explain such concepts in simple ways, yet he's not sure he fully understood it. Culture shock, you know!]

I'm not sure how appropriate it is, but that seems to be how it worked. I doubt there will be any fights with wild Pokemon anytime, though.

[ . . . In a book? She did see a basics of battle book, but this capturing being like that - honestly, she feels better about it after that, but it's also... ]

It sounds a little like how the Gorons might handle it...

[ She says idly, still looking at the Magnemite. ]

But no, I don't imagine we will. This poor thing seems to only barely be able to go around eating. ... At least I believe it's eating.

...eating electricity?

[Maybe that's not so outlandish. That looks like a machine. God this is going to take a while to get used to]

Try to call it over. See if it'd accept coming along.

[Would that count as capturing? Kiryu doesn't see why it'd refuse -- for obvious reasons -- but...is it really as simple as just asking them to be with them?]

... I could, but I was just observing it...

[ But uh. He did say to do it, so ... she'll... do that? She inhales a little and then calls out to the Magnemite, ]

Excuse me! Could we... talk?

[ And it...turns... to look with one eye... blandly... ]

[Kiryu isn't sure if that's normal for a machine or if there should be something more in that stare. Well better go ahead and try anyway!]

Want to come along?

[There's just...no reaction, is there? No agreement, no rejection. Kiryu thought there'd be at least an automatic reaction like preparing for a fight or something like that, but there just was nothing]

Nevermind.

[He turns to Zelda]

I guess fighting isn't instinct.

It might depend on the individual?

[ So as to not make Kiryu foolish or anything! But...

The Magnemite still is just sort of staring. It does float down a little more as if to get level with them, but. ]

...yeah, that may be it. I guess some would accept without fighting, while others would resist more. [Just like people, maybe Pokemon are different from each other, he thinks] Apparently it's common to have a team of six Pokemon when you're a trainer. I don't know how anyone can take care of six powerful creatures at once, but it's far from unusual.

Are some of them powerful? ... I suppose they would have to be, in order to be so relied upon, and there were quite intimidating ones in that book I read. [ She glances at her Beldum, and then back at the Magnemite... ]

Perhaps in light of that, the ones we've encountered are young, or not ... as trained. [ . . . ] I read about the six though, as well. It struck me as a strange number.

It does seem most of us have rather young companions. It'll be matter of time before they grow -- months, years... [He's going to be so surprised once he finds out about evolution] It still seems excessive. I can't imagine a twelve-year old kid carrying six with him.

[Weird world, this one]

It is not impossible for me to imagine, but it is a great deal of responsibility to put onto someone that young. [ She says is softly, but then remembers something about Kiryu and... ] Ah, Kazuma, if I might ask... how old is your daughter?

[ He probably wants to be called Kazuma?? Maybe?? Kiryu is likely a family or clan name, so . . . ??? ]

Nine.

[Kiryu doesn't seem uncomfortable about being called by his name. Maybe it's no big deal to him]

[ Man that's young (thought the teenager) and she bows her head somewhat ]

It is a tragedy that you are apart from her because of this. I'm sorry that it happened like this.

[Kiryu looks away. Haruka has been in his thoughts since he woke up, and he's rather worried about her]

She's the reason why I hope we haven't been in this world for long. If we have...

[ There frankly isn't a good response to that, because nine is... nine is young, it's developmentally important, and for him to be away even months, let alone longer, that would be a huge problem. She sighs.

... And glances back at that Magnemite, now floating at their level. ]

We can protect her and that world, at least.

Yes. If Cyrus wants to extend his plans into other words, then he must be stopped. There's no other option.

[What he did here was horrible enough and deserved to be halted, letting he do the same to all the worlds they came from would be unforgivable]

Even if he doesn't, he must be stopped. This has to be repaired, I... the people here can't suffer like this more.

Rather fitting words for a princess.

[Hyrule is lucky to have a future ruler who's sympathetic to people's plights, he thinks]

My station has nothing to do with it- [ She says, but it's not quite .. it's a little bit petulant, but mostly, her cheeks color some as she corrects, ] It is merely the right thing to do, and so... I would like to see it done.

[Kiryu is so pleased the majority is eager to help the people of Sinnoh. Things are so nice when everyone is cooperating!]

You could take this as a chance to gather some interesting stuff for your home. Even if it's just to study and find out how to make more.

[It's a fitting reward, right? Save a world, get the means to make yours even better]

... I will certainly be trying to bring back the capsules Pokemon are captured within.
