Week 1.

WEEK 1.

As Cynthia had promised, the sun does indeed rise the next morning.

Whether you slept or not (and sleeping inside the Pokémon Center you were in before seems totally fine by the attendant), it seems Cynthia kept her word; she left sometime shortly before sunrise, and you haven't been bothered by Team Galactic and those that work for it in the interim.

It isn't advisable to return to the headquarters building, however. At least not for the time being.

However, a new day does dawn, and with it comes the knowledge that you're in an unfamiliar city, completely on your own. There are several things to be done before you can leave: gathering supplies and provisions, finding maps, obtaining new clothes...

Of course, your new "companions" are still with you, and they don't seem willing to leave your side; they'll follow you dutifully, but they still seem...wrong, horribly so, and it doesn't seem to be wearing off. Maybe if you work with them a little...? Try to talk to them, train them, teach them to do things... Who knows? It might do them some good.

I'd bet none of 'em are named after the guy that did this to the world. According to the screaming old man from last night there's no mention of him anywhere you'd think it'd be.

Yeah? I guess I should've checked into that... What was his name again? Cyrus?

Yeah, Cyrus. Pretty sure we had a bunch of kings named that, where I'm from, but never any that were this insane.

[Mmm, he's still not really sure what to make of Cyrus beyond "why this, why the fuck did you do this you absolute maniac".]

Shame that Cynthia lady's opposed to us doing anything about him. We could save her a hell of a lot of time.

Honestly? I'm not really sure what to make of that.

I want to see more of this world, learn more about what all Cyrus has done to it.

What the hell else do you have to see?

I want to see the full extent of what he's done. We've only seen a little part of it so far. There's a whole other world here, and I'm curious to see just how far his reach extends.

This isn't exactly "a little part" - how many people need to be fucked up like this before you think it's acceptable to kill a guy for it? A couple dozen? A couple thouand? The whole fucking world?

It's just something I need to see for myself. I need to give it some more thought.

[But when you put it like that... it makes it had to think there's any reason to keep this guy alive.]

[He considers that for a moment, then nods.]

If that's your decision, I'll respect it. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't let me get in your way, anyway.

There's one person in the goddamn universe who could maybe get me to stop, and she's back on that world of mine that he's threatening to fuck up. So you're shit outta luck.

She's this girl I met half a year ago. American. Cute as hell. Tends to get into a lot of trouble, though.

She, uh... She saved me, I guess.

[That gets him to laugh.]

Hey, fair enough! She sounds interesting. So what kind of trouble did the two of you get into?

There was some crazy organization that was after my ass for a lot of stupid, complicated reasons. We did a lot of escaping from them. And then getting captured, and then escaping again. We got chased a lot. Crashed a lot of helicopters - if you don't have those in whatever weirdass fantasy world you came from, they're big flying machines that are good for getting out of places quick and...I don't know, they blow up a lot.

My year has been a total shitshow, I'm telling you.

[Flying machines... That sounds really cool...]

Why do they blow up a lot? Are they just not very stable or something?

[this is absolutely not the point but listen, this sounds cool]

They've got a lot of moving parts, so they're pretty easy to take down if you hit 'em wrong.

They sound really cool. We don't have anything like that. Ba'ul can fly, so he just carries our boat wherever we need to go.

Anyway, sounds like things have been pretty rough for you. I spent a lot of time getting chased around too, and it's a real pain.

Those knights you were talking about, I'm guessing.

Hell's a Ba'ul? Just from context, I don't think you mean the Bengali people.

Ba'ul's Judith's friend. He's an Entelexeia. They're... well, they don't look human, but they're not monsters either. They're pretty powerful. Ba'ul... How do I describe Ba'ul...

He looks sort of like a catfish? A giant, flying catfish.

Sure. We usually strap the creatures to the helicopters and take them places, but if it could work the other way around I'm pretty sure we'd be doing that too.

It definitely saves a lot of time. Trying to navigate the whole world without being able to fly would be a real pain.

...Okay, when it comes to "the whole world", I suspect I'm gonna make your head explode but just hear me out, okay?

You know how you've got your Empire and your...guilds, I guess, and basically your entire world sounds like it's got maybe a few hundred thousand people in it from how you talk about it?

Where I'm from, we've got seven billion people, split up into one hundred ninety-four countries, and at least forty of those countries hate each other at any given time. The place the Americans come from is a pretty powerful one. The Bengalis I mentioned come from somewhere else, they're from Bangladesh, which is halfway around the world. Edonia's somewhere between 'em.

So I might be mentioning a lot of places to you; my job's taken me clear around the world a whole lot of times.
