Week 3.

WEEK 3 The past weekend has given people a lot to take in, and a lot to think about. You're permitted to stay at the resort all day on Sunday, should you so choose; relax and replenish yourselves with regards to sleep at least, seeing as it's much more comfortable than the routes or sleeping on the floor of the Pokémon Center. Commander Saturn is gone as of last night, and no one seems to be coming after you - though there is likely something you'll be aware of by the end of the day... Whatever happens, it's evident that you'll have to leave this place eventually, and Monday should find everyone back on Route 213. It's been repeatedly recommended to move toward Pastoria City; whether you believe the source of said urging to be trustworthy or not, it's still a good idea to move in that direction - a city means supplies, after all, a place to restock and spend a few days. Everyone should be able to find Pastoria City by Tuesday afternoon; it's another unfamiliar place, with various things to see and look at over the course of the next few days. It's far smaller than Veilstone, but it borders up to the ocean by way of a small jetty on the southeastern side of town with a few boats moored to it. Otherwise, it's surrounded by forest, and the main path winds its way lazily through town, weaving between personal residences and a few places of business. Of course, it's still not nearly as lively as it should be; the inhabitants here all seem as devoid of spirit as everywhere else; fortunately, a select few of your companions do seem to be perking up a bit - perhaps that's a good sign, in the end. No, I was thinking of that Galactic Commander from yesterday. I think he said Pastoria was where he grew up. And you had to have seen him.

[Holding the bottle under her arm, Rin moves her hands around her hair as if to trace the weird horn/cat ear thing Saturn had going on with his hair.]

Well, you'd be in a terribly dire situation. Probably have to learn quite quickly.

She's right to be worried about it. I really hope he doesn't, but...

[Well, to be honest, he'd be stupid to overlook it. Yuri sighs.]

Man, this is a bit too complicated for me. I'm starting to miss fighting monsters.

[That's a lie, he's been missing that from the first day here.]

[Yuri laughs at that.]

Well, you never know! Maybe he just really likes cats! Or uh... whatever Michael's cat Pokémon is.

Sounds like a pain. Though I guess I wasn't all that good when I left Zaphias and I did have to learn pretty quick. Estelle couldn't cook and Repede definitely couldn't.

If it makes you feel better, none of my friends can cook either. Then again, I suppose they've never had to learn.

You and me both. Monsters and people who just completely fucking suck.

Exactly. Things would've been a lot easier if Saturn was just another Ragou or Cumore. Or Barbos... I've seen my fair share of people who just suck.

They always relied on you for that, huh?

We usually try to take turns cooking. Estelle's gotten pretty good at it by now.

[gotta level up everyone's cooking skills!!]

...So. What the hell did those guys do? Or ladies, I guess, sometimes women just suck too.

Or maybe he was raised by them. Mama cats sometimes groom their young, so those could be cowlicks. [Completely deadpan:] Catlicks.

They did, yes. Not to say that I minded all that much, but it mightn't have killed Prompto to pick up a whisk once or twice.

You could say that. I'm mostly just accustomed to it.

Nah, they're all guys. And let's see, where to start...

Barbos was collecting a bunch of blastia cores. The guy who stole the one in the Lower Quarter was working for Barbos, so naturally we ran into him. He also kidnapped one of the potential heirs to the throne, though we saved him. Barbos tried to start a war between the guilds and the Empire, and he probably would've succeeded if Flynn hadn't jumped in. Barbos also built a giant tower. That was supposed to help him take over the guilds somehow...?

[...He was way more focused on fighting Barbos, everything just kind of went in one ear, out the other.]

Anyway, he fell to his death from that tower.

Ragou was the magistrate in charge of Capua Nor. He used a blastia to make it rain eternally and insisted no boats could leave the harbor. If the citizens couldn't pay their taxes, he'd take their kids away and locked them in his basement with monsters. The people who were being taxed had to hunt a beast called Rhybgaro to get its horn to hopefully pay off their debts, and it wasn't exactly a pushover. In the end, he used his political standing within the Council to get his charges dropped, but he ended up dead so I guess it doesn't really matter.

And then Cumore... He was one of the knights, the kind of person that really gives them a bad name. He only cared about the rich and anyone who didn't have money or status was just a tool for him to use. He tried to get us killed for "kidnapping" Estelle, but even worse was what he did to Heliord and Mantaic. In Heliord he took over the city and promised nobility to anyone willing to work, then refused to give them breaks and worked 'em to death down beneath the city. We managed to run him off, but then he went to Mantaic and took over there, this time sending people out into the desert to search for Phaeroh without proper supplies or preparation. Everyone who wasn't being shipped out was locked in their houses.

He ended up falling in quicksand and dying, so at least no one has to worry about any of those three anymore.

Yes of course, thank you. [ Unlike Rin he doesn't seem off-put any, and he's way too comfortable in this situation than any priest should be. As instructed he takes the lunchbox and then steps aside, inviting her in with a wave of his arm. ]

Would you like to join me? I imagine you have already eaten, but we haven't much had the time to talk lately.

[fatalstrikes]

[JUST. GIVE HIM A SECOND TO BURST OUT LAUGHING.]

I should've expected exactly that, but somehow I didn't. Well played!

Tell me about your friends, what are they like?

Oh yeah, from being out in the wilderness. But seriously, is there anything you can't do?

[ A nod. ] I am used to Japanese swords...but for practice I don't think that matters much. [ In that case, this piece of driftwood is probably okay. ]

I can follow along if you lead, or I am more than happy to take instruction if that suits you better. [ He won't settle into a proper stance with his makeshift sword yet, though. ]

The last time I had any of this was on Ku-Rong, and we were kinda busy trying not to die. [She sets her plate down, lets her partners out, and starts to eat.] Hey, that's pretty good! Must be something you like making a lot.

I mean, there's audio books. They're expensive, though, and not everything has one, which kinda sucks...

I was only joking. You did ask.

So like... survival skills and getting better at this whole battling stuff. And maybe we'll find a bus or something so we don't have to walk everywhere. Then again, we'd be kinda obvious with something like that.
