Week 3.

WEEK 3

The past weekend has given people a lot to take in, and a lot to think about.

You're permitted to stay at the resort all day on Sunday, should you so choose; relax and replenish yourselves with regards to sleep at least, seeing as it's much more comfortable than the routes or sleeping on the floor of the Pokémon Center. Commander Saturn is gone as of last night, and no one seems to be coming after you - though there is likely something you'll be aware of by the end of the day...

Whatever happens, it's evident that you'll have to leave this place eventually, and Monday should find everyone back on Route 213. It's been repeatedly recommended to move toward Pastoria City; whether you believe the source of said urging to be trustworthy or not, it's still a good idea to move in that direction - a city means supplies, after all, a place to restock and spend a few days.

Everyone should be able to find Pastoria City by Tuesday afternoon; it's another unfamiliar place, with various things to see and look at over the course of the next few days. It's far smaller than Veilstone, but it borders up to the ocean by way of a small jetty on the southeastern side of town with a few boats moored to it. Otherwise, it's surrounded by forest, and the main path winds its way lazily through town, weaving between personal residences and a few places of business.

Of course, it's still not nearly as lively as it should be; the inhabitants here all seem as devoid of spirit as everywhere else; fortunately, a select few of your companions do seem to be perking up a bit - perhaps that's a good sign, in the end.

CURRENT LOCATION: PASTORIA CITY
POKEMON AVAILABLE: IN CITIES / NEAR WATER

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY
[OOC: Welcome to week three of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due this weekend!]

[Kiryu leans on his leg, a bit sore but overall okay. He can't avoid but wonder if he did something wrong]

No. I'm sorry if I gave you that impression.
heritrix: (everything belongs to me)

[Aww. It's okay, Kiryu, you did nothing wrong. Rin's just competitive.

If she wasn't already having a bad day, this would barely be a blip on the radar—if anything, she'd be a lot shyer about training in the first place. While she's used to accomplishing things with ease, she's actually not a sore loser.

Her mood, though, has her seeking out ways to burn off her aggression; to have fun. And for Rin? Fun can be found in a spirited competition.]

I can forgive you, I suppose. It just means I need to work harder. [Her voice takes on a sing-song quality as she marches closer to shore, though still remains in the water.] I can't have my partner doubting my skills and seeking out another trainer~! If I want to keep him, I need to show him I'm capable too.

[As she passes her Mienfoo, she whistles sharply.]

Come on, Monkey. It's time to switch to upper body exercises.

[He stops what he's doing, tilting his head a little at the abrupt change, but follows her without question. They're not going far though: just to a spot where the water isn't so deep they risk drowning themselves with the exercise Rin has planned next. Kneeling on the ground, she plants her hands in the sand, fingers pointing towards her feet instead of her head, unlike they would in a push-up. Next, she centers her weight on them completely, holding her entire body aloft in a peacock pose.]

[Should he point out they'd have to be really flaky partners to leave her...? No. She seems motivated, which is a good minset. Kiryu wisely decides to keep quiet.

A peacock pose, though...Kiryu's pretty good with endurance, strength and speed, but flexibility is definitely not his forte. That's likely why he's a bit puzzled at this -- are wrists supposed to support your weight when they're pointing at the wrong direction?]

...how's that supposed to go?

[What's this ludicrous pose, Rin, and how can he learn to do it because he's not going to say no to a chance to learn stuff]

[...it's kind of good he doesn't say that, after all. Rin didn't really think too hard about her jab as she was saying it out loud, but there was definitely a subconscious influence going on there.

The question he asks instead though pleases her, stroking her ego. And she never misses a chance to teach. In another life, that probably would have been a good profession for her.]

It might seem like the arms are doing all the work, but this position is all about core strength. The key is making your core your center of gravity, then playing around with your balance so that you can float naturally.

[She takes a moment to breathe, exhaling heavy and slow as a wave laps at her belly. Like this, it kind of looks like she's levitating above water, but it takes a lot of concentration, especially on the beach. Her hands have sunk into the sand up to her wrists. When the water passes, she shifts her gaze slightly to him.]

It's a pretty advanced position, though. [And that isn't her bragging; instead it comes out as a question.] Are you up for it?

[He looks pretty strong, and she thinks he could do it, but she'd be remiss not to inform him of that first. Martial artists like them know to be careful with their bodies, and no one can know Kiryu's own capabilities better than himself.]

Starting from advanced positions doesn't sound like a good idea.

[He's sure he could do it, but if it's advanced...then there must be positions that are more basic. He's used to learn in order -- easy stuff first and continue on from there]

[She tilts her head, getting her long hair swept up in the ocean water as it rolls past. But then she nods, consideringly.]

Cautious, but not unwise.

[Lowering her body back to the ground gently, she pushes to her knees and shakes her hands out, taking some of the strain off her wrists.]

You're experienced so we can probably skip the first steps, but try coming over here and taking the position you'd use for a push-up: so hands flat on the ground, and balancing on your toes.

[She does that herself to show what she means, both for that, and to demonstrate the change she throws in next.]

Only instead of pumping up with your arms, keep your back as straight and level as possible. You want your body alignment to resemble the flat surface of a coffee table, over an incline.

[Seems easy enough. Kiryu gets on the wet sand, following her instructions. It's rather easy, although he's having a bit of trouble keeping his back straight. Holding his weight is easy, but he's really not used to stiff positions like this.

Endurance when fighting -- and standing on one foot kicking the air -- is one thing, this exercise is another thing altogether]
heritrix: (welp)

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-06-25 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You're doing good. [She nods.] Keep your chest broad, and shoulders engaged down the spine. And don't forget to breathe.

[She'll continue giving him a little tips like this: keep your elbows above your wrists, and the upper arms in line with the torso. Don't lift or lower your chin. It'll be even more tempting slide your elbows back when your arms bend, but that negates almost all the benefits of the pose so resist the urge! So on and so forth.

Every few minutes or so, she instructs him to take intermittent breaks to get the strain off his muscles. What she advises sound like easy steps that become more difficult than they'd seem in actual practice, so pacing is important. But so long as he doesn't rush it, he'll get then hang of it.]

[It's a good thing Kiryu is a fast learner. It takes a moment to get the hang of this, and after a couple repetitions he manages to do it the correct way. Good!]

I think I got it. How long have you been doing this kind of exercises?
heritrix: (two)

Sorry for the delay

[personal profile] heritrix 2018-07-01 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm... [She has to think about it.] Well, it was a while before I got to something as intense as this, but I was about eight when I began my martial arts training.
