Week 3.
WEEK 3 The past weekend has given people a lot to take in, and a lot to think about. You're permitted to stay at the resort all day on Sunday, should you so choose; relax and replenish yourselves with regards to sleep at least, seeing as it's much more comfortable than the routes or sleeping on the floor of the Pokémon Center. Commander Saturn is gone as of last night, and no one seems to be coming after you - though there is likely something you'll be aware of by the end of the day... Whatever happens, it's evident that you'll have to leave this place eventually, and Monday should find everyone back on Route 213. It's been repeatedly recommended to move toward Pastoria City; whether you believe the source of said urging to be trustworthy or not, it's still a good idea to move in that direction - a city means supplies, after all, a place to restock and spend a few days. Everyone should be able to find Pastoria City by Tuesday afternoon; it's another unfamiliar place, with various things to see and look at over the course of the next few days. It's far smaller than Veilstone, but it borders up to the ocean by way of a small jetty on the southeastern side of town with a few boats moored to it. Otherwise, it's surrounded by forest, and the main path winds its way lazily through town, weaving between personal residences and a few places of business. Of course, it's still not nearly as lively as it should be; the inhabitants here all seem as devoid of spirit as everywhere else; fortunately, a select few of your companions do seem to be perking up a bit - perhaps that's a good sign, in the end. POKEMON AVAILABLE: IN CITIES / NEAR WATER SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY [OOC: Welcome to week three of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due this weekend!] |
evening
Hey. Something on your mind?
no subject
There's always something.
[Jake had been quiet during their dinner with Saturn, and Rey had been looking forward to speaking with him about everything that had eventuated. To her - even though the whole affair had started badly, in her eyes - the final result was worth the anger. It felt good to have direction - to have a plan.
Not that she was quite sure how to follow through with said plan, but that was what the thinking was for.]
It's been a busy few days.
no subject
[Two of their number just kind of...vanishing bothers him, but it's possible they'd just struck out on their own; other than that..well, it's not too hard to work out what she's talking about.]
Care if I join you?
no subject
[Let her just relocate Riolu so there's a space by the fire - it still feels odd, the way her little Pokemon dangles like a doll in her hands, but at least he isn't complaining.
Returning to her seat, Rey looks over at Jake.]
You look like you have something on your mind as well.
no subject
A couple things. The past few days were a lot; I don't really like this route because it's too close to the ocean. Stuff like that.
no subject
[To put it mildly. Rey makes a mental note to inquire more about Jake's apparent dislike of the ocean (she could stare at it all day). For now...]
Saturn certainly gave us a lot to think about.
no subject
[God, the fire is interesting right now.]
He's obviously pretty fucked up, but I can't say I feel too much for him.
[It's said in an odd, blunted sort of way that implies he knows Rey is going to disagree; not defensive, just aware of the notion.]
no subject
You don't feel sorry for him?
no subject
[That's...honestly what it comes down to, in the end.]
If he didn't know, that'd be one thing. But he admitted that he knew the whole time. He just went along with it anyway.
I get that it's more complicated than that. I get that Cyrus hurt him real bad, and as he is now he can't stop even if he wants to. That doesn't change what he did. Even if his life wasn't great before, plenty of people's lives aren't great. And they don't run off and join doomsday cults and try to wreck the world.
no subject
She knows that Jake is right, but...]
...I understand what you're saying. By the looks of things, though, he's definitely paying for it.
[Reaching over to the small pile of wood they're using for fuel, Rey tosses another piece into the fire.]
We don't know what kind of hold Cyrus had - has - over him.
no subject
As long as he's still willing to fight for Cyrus, he's an enemy. His reasons why aren't going to matter whenever we finally have to face him; if he wins we're screwed, and it's not going to make a difference if he feels bad about it or not - the outcome is going to be the same.
It's good that he's conflicted, I guess, but that doesn't make him an ally. It's not our job to save him. He's going to have to figure out that part on his own.
no subject
[Rey's delivery is adamant, her voice unwavering - as if she's stating a fact. Her eyes don't move from the fire.]
He said he wanted me to defeat him, so I will.
[....
...]
...once I work out the best way how. His Toxicroak was...impressive.
no subject
[Like of all things that guy could have had on him, he wasn't expecting something along the lines of Toxicroak... He supposes it makes sense if he thinks about it, but at the same time, eesh.]
I wonder what else he's got. We only saw the one, and somehow I doubt that's it.
no subject
[Jake makes a good point - Saturn could have a whole team of Toxicroaks, for all they knew. Regardless, however....]
But I don't think it's impossible. We've just got to practice and work with our Pokemon. Plus, if Cyrus is the key to us leaving this world, then we simply have to defeat whoever stands in our way. There is no other option.
[And that's that. Finally turning to look at Jake, Rey raises a curious eyebrow.]
...did you feel sorry for him, at all?
no subject
[It's pretty blunt, but it isn't completely unfeeling; adamant, sure, but not cold.]
Once you've participated in ending the world, you don't get my sympathy. And yeah, this world's still here, but that's the best thing we can say about it. That's close enough, if you ask me.
no subject
...we'll have to agree to disagree.
[She could argue her point - it's tempting - but as much as she felt for Saturn, she's not about to risk her friendship with Jake on his behalf. It's far too important.]
I suppose that means I can expect you by my side, when I challenge him?
no subject
[It's not even a question, as far as he's concerned.]
I don't tend to argue a lot over reasons why; I guess I've gotten used to it not really mattering. If someone's on your side, then who cares why; them being there could be the difference that saves your ass.
You want to save him, or what?
no subject
[That silence returns again, but to Rey, it doesn't feel awkward - there's something about Jake that just makes it feel comfortable.]
We'll have to defeat him regardless to get to Cyrus, but...I don't know. I like the idea of bringing him back into the light.
[It's an odd turn of phrase, but Rey doesn't seem to register it as being so; her eyes have grown slightly glassy, as if she's fallen into a memory that doesn't appear to be all that good.]
There was someone back home who I...tried to do that for, but it didn't work. I'd like to think I could succeed just once.
no subject
That said, though, he'll listen to it, at least; it's kind of weird phrasing, yeah, but he gets the point. That said, though- ]
So you've got personal reasons. And I've got personal reasons, and I can tell right now that my reasons are not gonna play nice with your reasons.
[So. Agree to disagree, sure.]
no subject
Does that matter if, at the end of the day, we both want the same thing?
no subject
[So there's that.]
As long as we both acknowledge that at the end of the day I really like being alive, and nothing's done to jeopardize that? You can have all the reasons you want.
