WEEK 4 Backtracking may not seem like an ideal situation, especially not given the situation on Sunday morning, but it isn't without reason or merit; after all, Lake Valor is within a reasonable distance, and perhaps more importantly, there's reason to believe that something may be there. Whether it's one of the Guardians you seek or something else entirely has yet to be seen; there's only one way to know for sure, however. So back onto Route 213 it is; you should reach Route 214 by Tuesday afternoon, and the entrance to Lake Valor by Thursday night; you may want to wait to explore the lakefront proper during the morning, however. Who knows what you may run into... You've seen at least some reasons to not give up hope as you left Pastoria; for the time being, let that hope give you strength. These are what the stals look like, or at least the Bokoblin ones.

...Jesus. Okay, so they're literally just reanimated skeleton things, got it.

Well they had been created with dark magic?

No, I believe it. It's just...creepy, I dunno. There's something weird about seeing stuff that's not supposed to see the light of day just wandering around like that.

[ She nods with some understanding, looking at the picture on the Slate a moment more... ]

They were unknown to Hyrule before I was born, I'm told. Certain types of monsters only began to appear as the Calamity came closer to returning, and others increased in frequency or violence.

[ Well, logically, they would have been around in other eras of strife, but they would have not been around for generations and generations before then, so.

I'm pretty sure my world's only been dealing with monsters for the past...fourteen years, I think? That's when they started showing up in America, anyway, so they're pretty recent. Stuff like the Rasklaplanje only started happening within the past year.

I am glad to hear that... though it does make the violence you've described feel all the more tragic.

[ That it was so new, that people had to adapt so quickly to it all. Man. ]

[Oh, uh.]

...I hadn't really thought about it like that? I guess it is, though. I don't know, after a while you get used to it just being the way things are.

[ She looks down at the slate again, considering showing another monster or maybe an animal, but then rests it on her lap, bringing her hands into a prayer motion ]

There must be an end to it, eventually. A time when people can rebuild.

...Yeah, that's not going to happen for a while.

[He doesn't sound bothered so much as he does just kind of blank about it.]

We've got wars cropping up all over the place now, and everyone's using new and fucked up viruses to fight them. Encouraging that shit's profitable for people. Some places are staying out of it, but Edonia's being completely torn apart right now. We're still at that point where it's going to get a lot worse before it improves.

[hyruglyphics]

[ She bows her head, thinking of the hundred years she had to allow Hyrule to fall. Does she mention that- ... No. She's too young, too naive. It would just be patronizing. So she keeps her silent prayer, closing her eyes and reaching out to Hylia - if Hylia could even hear anything in this world. But she opens her green eyes after that and... ]

[He shrugs.]

There's nothing to be sorry about. Edonia will get its shit together, and so will the rest of the world. Sure, there are some shitty people out there. But there are some pretty good ones, too, and as long as they're around they'll make sure things don't go completely to hell.

We'll be fine, it's just going to take a while.

[hyruglyphics]

[ She mulls it over in her mouth a while and then finally, she quietly says, ]

I suppose it shall sound silly coming from me... but it is good to be so confident. Even if it were to take a century, it is possible to overcome those problems. I'm sure of it.

[bloodspent]

...So why should that sound silly coming from you, exactly?

Because I'm so young.

[ She doesn't sound unconfident per se, just sort of... aware of it. ]

My seventeenth birthday wasn't that long ago.

[ It's... sort of true? ]

Well, yeah, but from the sound of it you've seen some shit.

[What with the...everything.]

If that was coming from Sena or Aya or something I'd think it's cute but doesn't really mean all that much. It's different when someones actually seen shit, you know?

[ For a moment, she's surprised and ... Ah.

Her cheeks color, and she turns to face Jake more directly. Seen some shit... yes. Those terrible memories that she and Link and everyone else still needed to live with. She actually looks a little grateful.

... Maybe it was being confronted by so many perspectives so alien to her, it made her hesitate some, wondering just what she could provide versus Jake or Bucky or Ignis. Not enough to stop, but enough to ... wonder. Just a little, if her experiences and insights could be that helpful outside of Hyrule itself. She nods ]

I keep sounding so - ... I'm sorry, I really must just be somewhat tired. [ She shakes her head and, ] ... Thank you, Jake.

I like talking to you, tired or not. You don't really have to thank me for anything.

[He just kind of says stuff, as far as he's concerned.]
