Week 4.
WEEK 4 Backtracking may not seem like an ideal situation, especially not given the situation on Sunday morning, but it isn't without reason or merit; after all, Lake Valor is within a reasonable distance, and perhaps more importantly, there's reason to believe that something may be there. Whether it's one of the Guardians you seek or something else entirely has yet to be seen; there's only one way to know for sure, however. So back onto Route 213 it is; you should reach Route 214 by Tuesday afternoon, and the entrance to Lake Valor by Thursday night; you may want to wait to explore the lakefront proper during the morning, however. Who knows what you may run into... You've seen at least some reasons to not give up hope as you left Pastoria; for the time being, let that hope give you strength. POKEMON AVAILABLE: PLAINS/FOREST / MOUNTAINS/ELEVATED AREAS SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY [OOC: Welcome to week four of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due next weekend!] |
SUNDAY
...
However.
By Sunday morning, a headcount of everyone present will have you come up with an even twenty. Weren't there twenty-two of you? You're certain that there were. Johan was usually a social presence, and it wasn't uncommon to find Shirou praying, but it seems neither of them can be found this morning - their belongings and Pokémon are gone, and it's like they simply vanished without a trace...
No, that's not quite accurate.
It's like the world is trying very hard to insist that they were never there to begin with, but your memories? Your memories definitely say otherwise.]
investigation? (beach)
Now that they're back at the beach, though, she takes a moment to start checking it for things. It's not like they have a metal detector, of course, but shuffling around and looking to see if anything washed up is fine, right? Maybe there'll be something they can sell.
At night, when they've set up camp, she's sitting on a rock and has her egg in its blanket in her lap. As she idly pets it, she sighs.]
It was pretty nice of them, huh?

[ Says Zelda, sitting on the beach cross-legged, the egg on he lap. She's looking out at the water, but does turn to Chelsea. ]
Though I do wonder what is the reasoning on their difficulty in hatching the eggs before now.

Morning marks the start of Abbey's turn, and the Gligar waits almost robotically for her trainer to finish rearranging her pack. Rin can be heard grumbling a bit, as she pulls out bulkier items. "What's the big idea? Everything fit fine yesterday." One of the items Rin removes is the egg she received alongside everyone else, when they left Pastoria. Abbey stares at it for a moment, then opens her mouth wide—]
Don't even think about it.
[The Gligar closes her mouth, without protest. As she waits, though, she starts to notice the other eggs around camp too, of any that are out. Again, her jaw slowly opens, long tongue slipping out—]
No. Those are off limits, too.
[Again, Abbey's mouth snaps shut. While she's glad her Gligar listens to orders well, in a weird way, it does also get on Rin's nerves. She's hungry, isn't she? It would be fine if she got at least a little irritated...
In the afternoon as they go along, Rin doesn't do much battling. Abbey's just kind of weak against almost all the ones out here. She does go to follow a random Croagunk when she spies one, though, just to get some practice in. As the day progresses, though...]
Did someone fall behind?
[She's thinking of one person in particular, but now that it's on her mind, it could be more? The group seems thinner.]

He looks, but it doesn't take him long to realize that there's not much to be done about it. But he seems a little withdrawn the rest of the afternoon, sticking much closer to everyone else than normal.
Cat Janet might have noticed this. Though she was running off ahead of the group much of the morning, she starts to stay back and...is she trying to trip people? She's definitely swiping at people's ankles trying to trip them. That's fun.
That night at camp, Michael takes the egg from his bag and lets it sit in his lap while he eats. You're supposed to keep them warm and stuff, right? It's a little while before he speaks up, deliberately casual now:]
So, are we still doing that night watch thing?

Flora seems more alert than she has been in the past, sitting in the sand and staring at him carefully.
Come the afternoon he can still be found on the beach, this time working out. The beach seems the best place to do it, given the view. He hasn't had much of a chance to do this recently, and it seems to relax him, given how tension free his body is. Admittedly it might also just be that doing push-ups and pull-ups with one arm takes concentration. Every once in a while he stops to watch the tide come in.
By evening, Bucky starts pitching his tent, looking like he isn't have any problems. Anyone nearby will get him addressing them.]

...That being said, he's worried that he might make whatever's in the egg sick by being sick himself (Sena, what?), so he's asked Monta to take care of it instead. Monta's on fire all the time, so he's warm enough, right? Sena spends most of his prep time that morning figuring out a way to properly secure the egg on Monta's back so that the little monkey won't be hindered by it.]
Um...so if I tie it like this...
Chim...
[Is the monkey looking a little...impatient? Nah, can't be.
Later that afternoon sees Sena not running around like he usually is. In fact, he's more bundled up than usual, actually wearing his black jacket for once. Hearing him cough every now and then explains it all, though, although he's still taking the chance to train his Pokemon.
He seems to have taken Eustace's advice to heart and started teaching his Pokemon all the pass routes he knows, although instead of running with them, he's playing fetch. Calling out pass routes and doing his best to throw in the correct direction (he's no Hiruma, after all, and throwing a stick like a football ends with some really awkward throws at first) ends up pretty engaging, and he hopes it's a safer alternative than running pell-mell all over the place.
Admittedly, he's mostly playing with Vee, which makes sense since Monta's still carrying the egg, but that doesn't change the fact that the monkey seems to also want his turn.]
Cha-! Chiiimu!
A...ah, Monta, but...oh, fine...
[After all that work he spent tying the egg down, too.]

But for now, there's more beach, and Jake is spending his afternoon training his Pokémon and trying to ignore it; Lobanja still doesn't seem invested in it, though she'll once in a while set the massive dragonflies on fire and that's pretty magnificent. Hlača, on the other hand, seems to be having...okay Jake can't actually tell if he's having a good time, but at least he doesn't seem to be having a bad one? He's deliberately seeking out the blank-eyed weird things in the area for the sake of headbutting the shit out of them, and once in a while he will actually kick or punch things. Really damn hard, actually. Huh.
He'll watch for a while, before - ]
Hey, Hlača, come here.
[The Pokémon toddles over obediently, and...long story short that is how Jake ended up trying to teach his Scraggy some really pointlessly flashy shit to accompany the strikes it's capable of, because Jake is nothing if not pointlessly flashy while beating the shit out of people. This is probably in no way going to be moderately alarming whenever Hlača evolves.
That night, though, is about as sleepless as they always are on this godforsaken beach; he's got the egg he received in Pastoria (why? he still doesn't quite understand why) nestled in the sand next to him, but he's largely just sitting off on his own with his knees drawn up to his chest, staring off into the ocean intently as his Scraggy sits next to him idly making swirling motions in the sand with his hands.
Eventually Hlača will stop messing around in the sand like he has been, looking over at his trainer, before...well, hitting him in the side with his face; it's not as hard as it could have been, but it definitely gets Jake's attention and gets him to uncurl himself a bit.]
Hey. You want something?
[He doubts it, because Hlača never really wants anything, so he's a bit surprised when the Pokémon proceeds to shove his arm out of the way and crawl up into his lap, where he just kind of...parks it and sits there staring out into the ocean along with him.
Jake does not claim to understand the inner workings of animals...pretty much at all, but after a while he settles, and he'll shift to hold onto Hlača properly, and the Scraggy doesn't complain.]
Grazie, little man. Grazie.

Once Kiryu finds a clearing, he gets Ni and Daigo aside so they watch the training]
Over here, Bito. I want you to do your best. Push back as strongly as you can.
[Heracross and Kiryu stand face to face. After a moment of staring, Kiryu bolts forward, Heracross opens its wings and flies forward, until they clash. Kiryu grapples the beetle's clawed hands, they push each other as strongly as they can.
After a few seconds Bito is forced to land, burying his talons on the ground, but slowly he's pushed back, leaving grooves on the ground.

In the early part of the day she walks along the edge of the beach, taking pictures of things with the Sheikah Slate and comparing it to things in her little battle book to see if she can't figure out if they are water types for sure. For example, she isn't sure what to assume of these strange yellow ducks...? There seems to be about five who look very much in pain in their heads even through their soulless eyes, getting in her way. Uuuh. ]
You might come across her, while camp is set up in the mid afternoon, taking off a top layer of her clothes and carefully heading into the water herself. It's very brisk. But this will allow her to better assess what's around here! Namely, she sees at least three major types of fish as she heads out a little bit further into the water... but that might be concerning? Either way, that's a study she's doing, also taking pictures of them with the Sheikah Slate! Which is apparently water-proof?
Who knows, she's giving it a go and thus in the evening she'll be huddling by the fire in a blanket, matting herself down and sitting with her Lickitung for warm, given the larger thing's body heat. ... And like, well, this might get slime on some people from the saliva, but it's helpful? You could help her more though.

No, but really - Jake is doing better now that Route 213 is behind everyone; he's been a bit more high-energy this evening, training his Pokémon to burn some of it off. Hlača seems to be, if not enjoying himself, working on that blood oath he seems to have sworn to destroy just like every single dragonfly ever; he doesn't seem to be having much success because type matches are a cruel mistress, so Jake's conscripted Lobanja to keep him from getting his ass beat too badly.
This goes about as well as one would expect it would - Hlača's pissed, Lobanja literally doesn't care but she's gonna do what she's told, dragonflies are hitting the ground, and everything is chugging merrily right along until there's a sudden burst of light from the battlefield, specifically in Lobanja's direction, and when it fades there's a...
...Well, there's definitely something, anyway. Holy shit? It's like Michael's fucking leopard thing, he supposes, but - ]
You know, I've come to expect a lot of weird-ass shit from this place, but somehow I was not expecting the horns.
[He'll come over to check her out more fully; Lobanja...well, she just kind of keeps right on not caring, honestly, but at least she's letting him figure out what the hell he's looking at here.]
Guess you're a proper lady now. Congratulations, you're awesome.

This is way too much walking.
[Time to be useful, though. In the afternoon, it's time to start hunting around in trees for food. Some berries are easy enough to get, but they're not enough for all these people, so her attention turns to... a Combee hive up in a tree, dripping with honey.]
...We're not gonna have to go all the way up there too, are we? Aw, man...
[And thus you can point and laugh at a short, constantly bewildered detective attempting to climb a tree and dodge the listless, unfeeling giant bees.]

Well, whatever. There's no staying behind, and he's got to keep an eye out for Team Galactic just in case, so... there's that. And there's also foraging to do, which he's gotten... okay-ish at, so in the afternoon, he's in the more wooded areas looking for things because it's a little bit cooler there... well, that was the intent. Things get a little more heated when, as he's walking along, he sees a Budew toddling along at speed across his path and immediately narrowly avoids getting hit with an Ember from a hunting pack of Houndour.]
Oh, of course...
[...well, the pack of doggos kind of deadeye the fact that a human's gotten between them and their prey, especially since even though they probably haven't seen a Frillish before, he's got an unfamiliar floating Water-looking thing with him. They do just kind of stare... until Kayneth sighs and just throws a few berries in their direction, which they head over to eat. Even if it did solve the situation, it does cause him to wonder aloud as he continues on...]
...god, that was a waste, wasn't it? They probably wouldn't have bothered to attack.
[...well, maybe it was a waste, but during the evening, when he's headed back to the path with the rest of the group, the Budew that had accidentally been saved from being a meal for some puppers is kind of trundling after him. It's probably a purely rational choice on the Budew's part, and Kayneth's not really sure if he wants to acknowledge it, but... that sure is happening.
It's still there when everyone settles down to camp for the night, where it's kind of sitting... not too close, but not too far from Kayneth's tent, just kind of staring blankly at him. He's sitting down scribbling in his notebook, trying to figure things out...]
...wait. Are all our Pokemon from other regions? I'm going to need to check another book just to be sure, but that might mean something...
[...his theory is going to crumble whenever he notices Sena's Chimchar is a Sinnoh Pokemon, but let him have his little moment, okay.]

[He drifted off the path at various points during the day; clearly not having lost track of where he was going, judging by the way he directed his Absol and her Chingling passenger to walk ahead. Rather, he was checking the more forested areas for any audible sign of a trail--and making sure he couldn't hear any apathetic Team Galactic grunts shadowing them.]
[There was at some point a rustling in the trees that got him to pause, bracing for an attack--only to have a bird drop down onto his head and fold cloudy wings, none too excited about the new choice in perch.]
...You must be joking.
[By night the usual two-Pokemon sleeping pile on his folded coat now an Absol, a Chingling on her head, and a Swablu settled right in next to them. Beside them was Ignis himself, beginning to look like exhaustion was wearing on him--he even briefly took off his visor to pinch the bridge of his nose with a gloved hand as if warding off a headache.]
