WEEK 4 Backtracking may not seem like an ideal situation, especially not given the situation on Sunday morning, but it isn't without reason or merit; after all, Lake Valor is within a reasonable distance, and perhaps more importantly, there's reason to believe that something may be there. Whether it's one of the Guardians you seek or something else entirely has yet to be seen; there's only one way to know for sure, however. So back onto Route 213 it is; you should reach Route 214 by Tuesday afternoon, and the entrance to Lake Valor by Thursday night; you may want to wait to explore the lakefront proper during the morning, however. Who knows what you may run into... You've seen at least some reasons to not give up hope as you left Pastoria; for the time being, let that hope give you strength. They have some. Liam had a lot on doing martial arts with your Pokemon. I was going to take one for the people here who are into that, but...I didn't.

...Maybe we should all get some notebooks at our next stop in a town. We'd be able to write information down without worry, that way.

Oh, I don't need to do that. Be kind of a crummy immortal being if I just went around forgetting things.

I have perfect memory, too, but it is kind of an unusual skill.

I was thinking more for swapping notes with the others.

That's certainly an idea. I hadn't thought we'd need to back then, but now...any one of us could be the next to vanish.

I don't know how humans cope. I mean, this is just an addition for you, you could all basically die at any time.

Do demons have massive wars with each other?

[A Catholic upbringing tells him that demons are absolutely the sort, but apparently a lot of that is straight up fiction, so...]

N-ooo, not as such. Not for a long time, at least. We’re very bureaucratic these days.

That’s not to say that our politics don’t get violent, they definitely do. But we’re very difficult to kill even for each other. Retirement’s always a big public spectacle - literally everyone can hear the screaming.

"Retirement", huh? Interesting way of putting it.

Not my term, everybody says that. First your essence is scooped out of your body with a flaming ladle, and then every molecule of your being is placed on the surface of a different sun.

[He actually seems a little uncomfortable talking about it?]

It’s also called “the eternal shriek”. Because of all the screaming.

Yeeeeeeah. Big reason I can’t go home ever again.

[He’s suddenly very interested in re-adjusting his tie.]

[You know, he's fine with changing the subject? Completely fine.]

I bet this world would be all right to stay in, if the people here were... normal. I couldn't stay here, but I'm tempted to drag my friend here, if we fix this. When we fix this.

All my friends are dead. But I got dragged here from the afterlife - wasn’t technically dead, but bringing them would actually solve most of our problems if it worked. That’s an interesting idea...

Or something that can fuck with time and space really hard.

I don’t know. I might be able to make new bodies for them, same as mine, but it’d take forever and they wouldn’t age...well. Not worth worrying about now, I guess. But you, I bet you could get a nice plot of land out of the whole world-saving thing.

[Bucky laughs cheerfully.]

I already have a nice plot of land.

Home isn't really a place for me, anyway.

Do you think you would miss it, if you and your friend came to live here?

[semistableman]

If I could bring my goats?

[He pauses.]

...No. I don't think I'd miss it much at all, to be honest. I know King T'Challa means well, but he'll pull me back into combat, eventually. And I'd happily spend the rest of my life never fighting again.

[Michael frowns a little at mention of a king.]

I thought you were American?

I've lived in Wakanda the last two years.

I can't exactly go back to America. It's complicated.
