Week 11.

WEEK 11 The meeting with Mars could have gone infinitely worse. It's difficult to say that it went well, admittedly, but at least it didn't go as poorly as it could have; either way, her departure leaves you free to look around the Valley Windworks, and it shouldn't take you long at all to find something interesting on the floor. It's bright yellow and glowing, set into the ground like any other normal part of the floor otherwise; stepping on it will cause the world to spin briefly in your field of vision, and when it straightens itself out again, you find yourself standing in the corner of the lobby of a large building you've never seen before. Welcome to the Jubilife TV station. The place seems staffed with Galactic grunts, but they leave you alone outside of just watching you in that dead-eyed, vaguely unnerving way they have of watching everything; they'll let you leave without a fuss at any rate, and it's probably for the best that you get yourself situated for the time being. After all, you've got an entire new city to get accustomed to. The people here seem to be trying to get themselves situated as well, though obviously that's for entirely different reasons. The world continues to change, around them and you both, and overall things do seem to be going in a direction that might be considered favorable. Noticeably, the grunts in the TV station don't seem to be changing at all, regardless of what happens to the other locals; that might be cause for some concern... [He looks a little bit curious at the aborted motion, like he's not really sure what she was doing there.]

It's why I never could torture them right. I didn't understand them as well as I thought - no, more than that, I didn't understand how they'd be together. How they could be good for each other, even though they were all so different.

I get that part better now, but I don't...think I ever could have if I were still just trying to hurt them.

[ . . . Mmm. Honestly, even if it's a banal thing and even if she knows that he thinks it is wrong now, it still does make her twinge with just a little bit of concern every time Michael is talking so casually about the torture thing. Her hands come together over her chest a bit tighter. But she nods all the same. ]

I very much doubt that as well. [ . . . ] There's a difference between knowledge and emotion, and even then, individuals - I do not think that any one person can be learned, especially in a social situation. Not completely.

Maybe not. Especially when it comes to another species, I guess. I should've always realized that, it's just that...I don't want to call anyone lesser beings, but that's the phrase that would've come to mind then.

[And apparently still kinda comes to mind now, he just doesn't wanna call anyone that]

[ I mean she's from a world of gods and spirits. While she does give him a little look, she doesn't chide him on it. Not really. ]

Well, that is something else you seem to have taken steps past.

I mean, you guys are still very small and fragile. But maybe in a...cute? Way?

[Michael runs this over in his head. He doesn't seem sure about the description.]

Not so much your mouths. Or your various fluids, or your elbows - isn't it weird, how many joints you have? Just these stiff parts that have a bendy bit in the middle. [okay this derailed badly]

Michael-- You. You really do get so stuck on our physical limitations?

[ Haha... ha. ]

I mean, I've had them for a while, but when you think about it...

[He holds up an arm and bends it a few times like it's some weird party trick.]

[ . . . Pfffthahah. Okay. ... No, she can't see it, but it is funny. ]

[Michael laughs too.]

I mean, I just - you really are so breakable, I just want to keep you all safe.

[hyruglyphics]

You're not that much more sturdy than us, right now. You know that, right?

[ But she nods, smiling - the sentiment is appreciated. ]

I actually am, a little. We tend to make these pretty heat-resistant, because of all the fire.

[Though apparently that left him hilariously unprepared for Snowpoint]

But if this body dies, I'll just make a new one. It'd be fine.

Can you do that, even here?

Gotta be honest, I have no idea.

But the point is, I'd be pretty much okay. Demons can't actually be killed - the most that ever happens is that each of our atoms are placed on the surface of a different sun to burn in agony forever, and no one here seems like they're going to try that.

[ . . . What the fuck does that even mean? But??? ]

... My point is merely that we're in a different realm entirely. Things might not be so cut and dry. And besides I would be worried about you.

[eudaimonikos]

Yeeeah, yeah, Jake said the same thing.

[He waves a little, looking sheepish.]

I'm not saying I'm gonna put myself in danger for no reason. It'd be a waste. Plus, I can feel pain, and it isn't my favorite thing in the world.

[ She should have known Jake would question that.

She smiles a little more for it. ]
