Week 13.

WEEK 13 The trip to Celestic Town is an unconventional one, though it's infinitely faster than walking and doesn't leave everyone feeling woozy in the same way that teleportation does. The town itself is a small one, though it's scenic, and there's a sort of beauty to it that's very rustic in nature; it's surrounded on both sides by mountainous routes that you're welcome to go on to both the west and the east, though it wouldn't be recommended that you venture too far out, seeing as they can be on the dangerous side for those who are unfamiliar with them. It seems Cynthia was right about one thing - there was certainly an incident at Lake Verity that went off almost as soon as you left, another of those deep pulses echoing through the surrounding area; it seems that whatever Mesprit did can be felt by the region as a whole, given that Celestic Town and the surrounding areas seem to have been affected as well despite being so far east of the lake. Cynthia herself can be found throughout the town for the duration, should anyone want to speak to her. Sometimes when left to her own devices, she can be seen in the company of a little girl who looks very similar to herself; sometimes she's with a pair of people much older. Either way, the family resemblance is strong. Lucas is here as well; he's still willing to speak to anyone that wants to, though he seems a bit subdued. Either way, it's been a long, harrowing trip so far; hopefully spending some time here will help to rejuvenate you. ...I don't have the whole thing filled out, but I've got most of what you'll find in Sinnoh in here, at least.

Just try not to break it or anything, they're pretty uncommon.

[He takes it, with actually a modicum of care, and turns it over in his hands for a second.]

Don't worry. I'm not about to risk one of the best sources of information I've found around here. [He fiddles with the buttons a second, and then starts on through the entries. It looks like he's speeding through, just giving everything a cursory glance.] You said you've only filled part of it out - is that a sort of field study thing?

[azumods]

Yeah - I'm trying to see everything in the region. I don't have any of the Legendary Pokémon except Mesprit right now, though, I never got to see those in person.

[eudaimonikos]

[Michael nods.]

I didn't talk to Azelf much, but I did like Uxie. Of course, the whole...thing with the memories is unfortunate. We had talked about going to look for Cresselia and Darkrai as well - do you know much about them?

[azumods]

[Mm.]

They can trap people in dreams. I know Darkrai definitely does - it can put you in nightmares that never end unless you have Cresselia's blessing - but I think Cresselia can do it too. Don't quote me on that, though...

Either way, Cresselia is seen as more... [...he's twelve he wants to sound slightly more impressive than just saying "nice"] ...benevolent? Because she can wake you up from Darkrai putting you under. Being blessed by Cresselia is seen as being really good. But that's mostly what I've heard, outside of them just being really strong in general.

[eudaimonikos]

I see. Well, my kind isn't known for benevolence either.

[He'll hand the Pokedex back now, he's done.]

Thanks for that. I think I've been using the word Mimic for more than one move this entire time. [though to be fair, real similar] If I show you one of my foreign Pokemon, you think you might know what she is?

[azumods]

[...Holy shit, really? Well, okay - ]

Maybe? I could give it a shot, depends on where she's from.

[eudaimonikos]

[He can read the entirety of human literature in an hour or two, apparently? At least this is a list of facts and not philosophy or something though, because there's sometimes a pretty big difference in remembering the text and actually getting the text.]

Hard to say. I got her egg from some kid in Pastoria. [He releases Lena the Mawile. Getting her emotions back all at once has been a little rough on Lena; she grabs onto Michael's pant leg immediately.] I'm pretty sure she's a fairy-type, at least. Look at her fun evil mouth!

[azumods]

Oh, she's a Mawile!

[aaaaaaaa lookit she's so cute]

She's also a steel-type, they're from the Hoenn region - she's really cool.

Really!

[Michael stoops to pick her up and balances her on his hip, grinning. It's like he's holding a remarkably well-behaved toddler.]

I was starting to get suspicious - she got in in the head-mouth yesterday so hard that it clanged. I never realized - not like I punch my Pokemon in the head on the regular. Do they evolve at all?

[azumods]

They don't normally, but there are these special stones you can give them when you've bonded with them well enough - they'll make them change forms temporarily, and it gives them a huge power boost. You have to be careful with it, but it's really cool to watch. I've only seen it a couple of times.

[Being a research assistant to someone who's gone to Kalos comes with perks.]

[eudaimonikos]

[Huh. First he's hearing about any mechanic like that.]

Can you find those around Sinnoh anywhere?

[azumods]

They're a Kalos thing, I think, but I can check the lab, if you want.

[eudaimonikos]

I'd be interested to see what that's like, if you have any. Oh, also - Haunter evolves when it's traded?

[surely you don't mean just hand it off to someone else and it attains a new form?]

[azumods]

I'm sure Professor Rowan wouldn't mind letting you borrow some, if it'll help what you're trying to do.

And yeah, it does. Alakazam is the same way, I have one of those. They aren't very happy for a while after you do it, it can make them really upset? But it isn't a bad thing, they'll calm down a lot once they're traded back.

[eudaimonikos]

So you literally just - [He makes a mock motion as if to hand Lena to Lucas, to which she clamps onto his arm with her little hands and snaps her jaws. Michael takes her back quickly.] - just, uh. Give them to somebody else, and that's it?

Calm down, it was a rhetorical gesture.

[azumods]

[yikes, lena.]

It's easier if they're in the ball - that way, uh...that doesn't happen. They tend to see it as you giving them away to someone else, that's what makes them upset.

[eudaimonikos]

I see that!

[Just gonna. Pat Lena? Anyone with any sort of experience with children would probably be bouncing her right now, but he's just holding her with one arm and sort of awkwardly patting her head with the other as if that's the magic key to making her calm again.]

Jane, my Haunter, she's usually very reasonable about things. I'm sure I could explain it to her...but I wouldn't like to stress her out right now. It's been a strange few days.

[azumods]

...Yeah, it has. It's good for everyone, though, I think. The emotions.

[eudaimonikos]

Mmmmmaybe. At some point. In the future.

[He's progressed enough not to snap at the actual child over this! Excellent!]

Anyway! You wanna have that battle? I've never really done this with anybody who wasn't Kayneth before, you can set the ground rules or...whatever.

[azumods]

[Hmm.]

I've got three of mine with me; we can do fewer than that if you want, but those are the friends I've brought.

[eudaimonikos]

Three works. Given how things went with Maylene, there's a good chance this won't last long anyway.

[The kid's not a Gym Leader, but even so, he's a native who's been at it for...well, time seems screwed up, but definitely longer than three months.]

Do you mind if my fish watches? It's a Feebas.

Either you have more patience than most people in the region, or they've really bounced back population-wise, they used to be really hard to find - of course it can watch, can I see it?
