WEEK 13

The trip to Celestic Town is an unconventional one, though it's infinitely faster than walking and doesn't leave everyone feeling woozy in the same way that teleportation does. The town itself is a small one, though it's scenic, and there's a sort of beauty to it that's very rustic in nature; it's surrounded on both sides by mountainous routes that you're welcome to go on to both the west and the east, though it wouldn't be recommended that you venture too far out, seeing as they can be on the dangerous side for those who are unfamiliar with them.

It seems Cynthia was right about one thing - there was certainly an incident at Lake Verity that went off almost as soon as you left, another of those deep pulses echoing through the surrounding area; it seems that whatever Mesprit did can be felt by the region as a whole, given that Celestic Town and the surrounding areas seem to have been affected as well despite being so far east of the lake.

Cynthia herself can be found throughout the town for the duration, should anyone want to speak to her. Sometimes when left to her own devices, she can be seen in the company of a little girl who looks very similar to herself; sometimes she's with a pair of people much older. Either way, the family resemblance is strong.

Lucas is here as well; he's still willing to speak to anyone that wants to, though he seems a bit subdued.

Either way, it's been a long, harrowing trip so far; hopefully spending some time here will help to rejuvenate you.

[Melady definitely seems pleased by that, at the least, nodding her little head and beaming.]

Well, I'd certainly be pleased to assist. Melady, I'm going to let go of this yarn for a moment, okay? [Melady looks to Camilla a bit, concerned.] Don't you worry, dear. Take some time to play with the yarn; I'll be happy to help you once I get back.

[Melady'll at least nod her head there, fairly understanding, and Camilla will get up, then.] Well then, what might I be able to assist you with?

Great. Just bear with me for a second, I think you'll get a kick out of this.

[Standing as well, he unclips a Pokeball from his belt and offers it to her, saying in a loud and rather declamatory fashion:]

I, the current owner of this Pokemon, am hereby officially giving it to - you. [In an undertone, he adds:] Okay, let him out.

[...Oh boy, she can already tell this is gonna be Interesting. Well, Camilla's more than happy to play along, accepting it graciously. Should she say something too, she'll say something too--]

Well then, how kind! I hereby accept this wonderful Pokemon that you have given me.

[And she'll let this little guy right on out! She's definitely curious as to what's gonna happen...]

[It's a Feebas! Camilla may not have ever even seen Michael with this Pokemon; it was only recently caught, and he doesn't let it roam like the others do for reasons that are quickly apparent. It just sorta flops to the ground, and continues to flop a little as it takes in the situation.

There's an iridescent scale tucked under one of his fins, but it's only briefly visible before the entire Pokemon begins to glow and morph into something much, much larger.

Feebas evolved into Milotic!

Michael claps his hands together in excitement.]

Hey, look at that! It worked! Lucas said -

[We will never find out what Lucas said, because Milotic attempts to launch himself back into Michael's arms. Milotic is around twenty feet long. Needless to say, he takes Michael right the fuck out.]

[...You know, she would have expected a ghost type before a tiny, shabby looking fish, but it's still pretty cute in it's own right? Camilla's almost tempted to pet it before that familiar white light takes over and--

Holy shit he's so pretty.]

Ah, congratulations! You've made a beautiful new--

[--OH DEAR GOD, THAT SURE WAS A GIANT SERPENT TRYING TO LEAP BACK. OH GOD. OH GOD.]

Michael! Are you alright?!

[Can she even get past this clingy serpent child to see if he's broken something at all, good god, he just took an entire serpent to the body. That can't be good??]

Hoooooooo, mistakes were made, get him off -

[Milotic is fucking CRUSHING HIM WITH LOVE]

[UHHHHH RIGHT, RIGHT, hang on a moment, she's getting Haar on out--]

Dear, please, you're going to crush him if you keep doing that! Haar, help me lift this one, won't you?

[OR...AT LEAST TRY...WHO LET THIS THING WEIGH ALMOST 400 POUNDS, WHAT THE FUCK, THIS IS GONNA TAKE SOME DOING, PLEASE TAKE THE HINT FRIEND--]

[yeeesh would you believe I didn't even check its weight]

USE THE POKEBALL!

[you know the one he handed you that the feebas came out of]

[I don't think anyone could've expected that tbh

--EITHER WAY SHIT, RIGHT, THE POKE BALL, let her just kind of call back the great big fucking serpent and just kind of. Offer a hand up once it's back in because jesus christ.]

...Do you need medical attention?

[...That is admittedly her way of asking if he's okay because you know. That's obvious, but. Yeah.]

What the fuck?

[Michael's disheveled and still rather shocked-looking as the serpent disappears, but he's together enough to accept the hand up, and steady enough once he's on his feet. He runs a hand over the back of his head to check for blood (none) and straightens his glasses, which had gone askew.]

Lucas said they get mad about that, sometimes. But I don't even think he was upset... [He's methodically checking out his body as it does so. After a second, he rather casually pops one of his shoulders back into place, and continues:] That was pretty cool, though, right?

...From the looks of it, it seemed like he wished to cling to you and never leave.

[Like, holy shit? She's never seen a Pokemon get that clingy and upset before. She's surprised the poor thing didn't start wailing or something.]

I do admit, though, that was quite interesting. I would have never expected such a frail looking creature to become something so beautiful and vibrant!

[...]

And hefty, at that.

I did know what he'd turn into. Thought you'd like it. Didn't know he'd do that with it, obviously...I'd better take him back before he comes out again.

[Though he's really not sure how he heard the trade happen from inside the ball anyway? This whole thing is weird]

Well, thank you for showing him to me. He's a wonderful creature, and I'm quite happy to have help you help him reach his full, beautiful potential.

[He's a good boy, she's sure. Either way, yes, let's give that back to Michael--]

I hereby grant your darling partner back into your ownership.

[...she probably didn't have to do that, but listen. It's fun.]

[Michael leans forward in a sort of semi-bow as he takes it back, pressing his free hand to his chest. Because he also thinks that making a Thing of it is fun.]

I accept your generous gift. [let's...let's not let him back out right this second though] Glad to see you two are getting along better, too.

[He nods to the Drifblim.]

[Camilla turns back to Melady when he says that, just kind of seeing the poor thing with the most bewildered expression. She still smiles, though.]

For someone so willing to resort to mischief, she's quite a gentle darling. Rather determined as well, when she wants to be; I really do owe you for telling me to lighten up on her a touch.

[The Drifloon giggles a bit in response to that, but there's no denial there.]

Takes one to know one, I guess.

[He...agh, crouching hurts, he doesn't crouch.]

Might be surprising, but I fucked up a lot of those...early friendship rituals, too.

Mmm. It's quite easy to do, when you have no idea what to do...

[...Michael, do you need help. Like, chiropractor help. Camilla doesn't know what those are, but--]

...And I suppose when given a reason to be unfriendly, at the start, but even so...that's simply a part of living and learning, isn't it?

Yeah, guess so - oooh, boy.

[Nah he's fine just let him stretch this out here?]

It's funny, I - I actually did know how to be friends with them. I was very good at it. Just, while lying about my intentions, identity, and general personality. So really, I guess I just knew how to make them think we were friends.

Careful now, Michael.

[That's said just a bit too quickly, though it's definitely laced with concern. Still, as she listens to him...hmm. It makes sense, certainly, considering his role?]

You knew how to pretend to be a friend. But when you actually tried to be one, at first, it was more of a daunting task than you imagined?

Yeah. I mean, it's not like I wanted to be friends with them at first, I just needed them on my side. But it was kinda fun hanging out with them and having actual conversations, as myself.

See - demons hang out together, and some of them have people they call friends, but those are mostly sort of...political allies. You still poke them with hot sticks, and jump on their vulnerabilities if you see them. And...I don't know, I was never very popular anyway.

[...That's actually kind of nice to hear about, in some ways. That he was able to be himself around them.]

My, that's almost touching. It's like they dragged you out of your shell so you could be yourself...

[That's bordering between serious and joking, honestly.]

Really, from the way you describe your fellows, I don't blame you for not enjoying their company, however. They sound so excessively dull by comparison.

Oh, they have their idea of fun things to do sometimes. Lots of loud parties, lots of wanton violence. The drugs are better than human ones, I'll give us that.

But anything gets boring after a few thousand years, and everyone else was just so...satisfied with the way things were. I don't know, I don't really get it.

[Oh, that gets Camilla to smile just a bit more brightly.]

Sometimes shaking up the statis quo is a good thing; your kind could stand to learn from you some. Being so stagnant is utterly dreadful!

Oh, they will absolutely do something terrible if I go back there now. Only reason I wasn't facing the death penalty before is because my boss didn't want that kind of publicity, but there's no way he's kept everything hidden from the High Council this long.

[huh, he hasn't thought about that in a while...]

Wonder how hard they came down on him?
