Week 13.

WEEK 13 The trip to Celestic Town is an unconventional one, though it's infinitely faster than walking and doesn't leave everyone feeling woozy in the same way that teleportation does. The town itself is a small one, though it's scenic, and there's a sort of beauty to it that's very rustic in nature; it's surrounded on both sides by mountainous routes that you're welcome to go on to both the west and the east, though it wouldn't be recommended that you venture too far out, seeing as they can be on the dangerous side for those who are unfamiliar with them. It seems Cynthia was right about one thing - there was certainly an incident at Lake Verity that went off almost as soon as you left, another of those deep pulses echoing through the surrounding area; it seems that whatever Mesprit did can be felt by the region as a whole, given that Celestic Town and the surrounding areas seem to have been affected as well despite being so far east of the lake. Cynthia herself can be found throughout the town for the duration, should anyone want to speak to her. Sometimes when left to her own devices, she can be seen in the company of a little girl who looks very similar to herself; sometimes she's with a pair of people much older. Either way, the family resemblance is strong. Lucas is here as well; he's still willing to speak to anyone that wants to, though he seems a bit subdued. Either way, it's been a long, harrowing trip so far; hopefully spending some time here will help to rejuvenate you. I can usually see in more dimensions than this. Think I mentioned that before, once or twice...I've lost entire spectrums of - not color, exactly, but that's the closest thing I can think of.

More... dimensions? Do you mean seeing alternate possibilities, or more space? I am not sure I understand, but even so... [ She glances back at him with a sheepish shrug. ] I'm sad the world isn't as beautiful to you as it ought to be.

...more like more space, I guess. But I don't know if it would be better. There's a sort of sensory component to other people's feelings, for me - it's not colors, but it's like that?

Wouldn't be getting a lot of that here. Although I'm glad I can't sense the tension all the time. So messy.

[He makes vague motions with his fingers for a few seconds.]

[Michael raises his eyebrows and blinks a few times - you know, in that manner of surprised affront.]

I beg your pardon?

Our confrontation with Mesprit was hard on you.

[ She says... matter of factly. Michael hadn't done much, but he did try to help her when she was upset after Uxie. This is... sort of the reverse? Sort of? ]

[ Are you for fucking serious right now? ]

[Uh. Ya.]

[ Seriously. ]

Bet if you got this big guy to shoot a rock into the waterfall, it'd make a huge splash.

Michael...

[ I mean, probably? Yes? ]

Yeeeeeeah?

[Mortals love splashes, it's the perfect distraction.]

It is alright if you felt taxed by that. I wanted to see if you would wish to unpack any of it.

[Michael gives her a toothy smile that's more like a grimace.]

I just - what gives it the right to ask us questions like that? We'd only just met. We hadn't met.

[ She... hums ]

To be truthful, I found no question asked of me overly invasive. ... But as to its right? Only the right afford to a - well, a "higher being," to use that terminology you abandoned.

[ to it's a dubious claim. ]

Oh, because that's a great justification.

[Didn't he like, just go through how he realized that wasn't actually the greatest viewpoint?]

Anyway, I'm also an eternal being. I'm on par with it, it might as well be some jackass cornering me at an office party.

[ Mmm ]

It isn't, when you spell it out like that. But it seems to me that... well, it just wanted to know us in a way it understood.

[eudaimonikos]

Lots of stuff I'd like to know. I'm not asking everyone invasive questions.

[hyruglyphics]

[ . . . Hmmm. ]

Well, what would you like to know?

[eudaimonikos]

What?

[Oh, uh, he wasn't exactly expecting to be asked.]

Oh, well - [He could say that there's nothing really, but he immediately thinks of something, so] - I'm sure we don't need to do that.

What I offered for Meprit was what I was willing to give. But Meprit isn't someone I know well... you're much more my friend than them, Michael. And so I don't have much to hide.

[ And she didn't find any of the questions she got invasive. ]

[eudaimonikos]

[Michael still hesitates, looking down at his hands. He's not a person known for his incredible tact and social grace, so if he's elected not to broach the topic...]

Are you really okay with your reincarnation thing?

[He might have brushed it off in the end, way back when they discussed that, but he clearly thought more of it than he'd let on.]
