Week 14.

WEEK 14 Sunday is a rough day all around; it's for the best that you remain where you are for the day, for the sake of regrouping and recovering, and perhaps getting some sleep - assuming that any will come. However, as difficult though it may be (and as futile though it may seem) Monday is likely best seen as a day to depart - a day to start to take whatever actions can still be taken, and to assess where to go from here. A good place to start is Canalave City; it's where you were going to meet with Cynthia, and where you were planning on looking into the legends of Sinnoh. The city itself is beautiful, a massive port town split down the center by a large canal system filled with boats and clear water leading out to sea; however, the recent changes to the world have affected this place as well, perhaps making it a bit difficult to enjoy the city in its entirety. However, the library is here, as are several other points of interest; as difficult though it may be to see the world like this, the trip here will hopefully be worth your while in the end... [Canalave wastes no time proving itself as an improvement to Celestic, entirely by virtue of not being surrounded by cliffs. No, this is not a fair standard to measure things by, but—look, Emmeryn doesn't ask for a lot, all right. Regardless, her morning routine since arriving has involved taking her team out for a walk down the city and along Route 218. Once they exit city limits, Latona and Audhulma get to wander about on their own, only because the route is so short—but even if Duma could get anywhere quickly, he would be under strict supervision. Emmeryn doesn't have a plan if he tries to launch himself into the fucking ocean next.

This morning isn't any different, of course, except that Latona makes a soft cry from across the grass to call Emmeryn over, and marches right up to her instead of waiting. Gravely purposeful, she stares right at Emmeryn and holds out an egg. Kiiiind of. Bewildered, Emmeryn takes it in both hands. Looks at Latona. Looks at the Togepi. Looks at Latona.]

...Yes?

[Latona makes a rumbling noise low in her throat, and...walks away.]

Latona? Latona. [looks at the egg looks at latona SIGHS AND GOES AFTER LATONA, WHO IS UNCARING TO HER TRAINER'S WOE] Latona, where did you find this? You—you cannot just—just take...infants and walk away with them. Latona. Latona! Latona, show me where this came from.

[WHY ARE HER POKÉMON LIKE THIS

Long story somewhat shorter, Emmeryn has a new Pokémon now, apparently, and she brings back the sling she used to carry Latona's egg months ago (and isn't that a strange thought, when Latona stands so tall now; distantly, she remembers when she had to crouch to fasten Chrom's cape, and remembers fretting on the day she realized he was taller than her) to carry her new weird egg friend along close to her chest. In the afternoon, she heads to the library, all her Pokémon but her newest put away just for now. She'll remedy that and find a spot to sit and read outside, but first, she's choosing books, making a small pile on one arm.

She nods in greeting at anyone around, and, if they aren't especially busy:] Good afternoon. Have you been reading much into the local legends?

[Come the evening, Emmeryn settles into the Pokémon Center with just one book from the library set down on her table not too far from where her Togepi sits, staring dully ahead. How...does she take care of this thing..... It's an egg.

Curled up neatly on the ground nearby—she's become quite good at minimizing how much space she takes up—Latona makes a soft rumbling sound, then rises to set her head gently on the table. With a soft little coo, Emmeryn scratches her head between her ears.]

Now, now. Don't you see how far you have come into yourself? This little one will find their heart again before you know it.

[Here they are not a week out from the end of the world, but when Emmeryn says this, she believes it.]

Afternoon

I read all that already.

[He's coming out of the library with a notebook under one arm, but seems a little dismissive of the whole local legends thing. Even though that's extremely important?]

Why, do you want to know one?

[yeah because that's how you start a conversation. she glances at her little book pile and then back at Michael, a little bewildered, but only for half a moment.]

I have been doing my own reading as well. I was just curious what other people made of the stories.

Well, the stuff about the lake deities sounded pretty familiar. And I don't know if I get the point of the sword one. It seemed to sort of cut off suddenly?

[where did the pokemon disappear to, story?]

I suppose that one did leave some explanations unsaid, but I hadn't much considered that... I thought it a sort of cautionary tale, and an origin story, but I do wonder whose.

It didn't go anywhere. Human myths generally end with...the creation of the world, or the discovery of fire, or something, right?

Plenty do. Still, we've just as many stories at home that simply end with the traceless disappearance of the divine king's avatar or the kingsgrail or someone or another, and that is the end of that.

In a sense, yes--Noctis and I went over a few of them. Why, have you found something?

Oh, no, nothing particularly noteworthy, unfortunately... But I have been doing my own reading, and I was curious to hear other perspectives on the stories.

[ Goddesses knows she hopes so. Zelda can't help but find herself thinking that as she overhears it, several books in her arms, having been borrowed to come back to the Center mostly because she needs a little snack or something in order to fuel her brain. That said, glancing over at all of them there and...

Oh ]

You have one like Ventus's little one now?

That I do. Latona handed him right to me, of all things, and would not take no for an answer. I'm lucky that I will have someone who has already raised one like him to ask upon.

For quite some time, too. I believe his has evolved by now...

[ She says, but...

That blank look really is so sad. Mmmmr. ]

She has. Her name is Aster, I've gotten to meet her.

[Latona doesn't much like that empty look, either, and, despite receiving intermittent head scritches, looks on with a miserable little pout.]

She's a sweet, cheerful thing, so this one [affectionately pokes her Togepi's shell] will have a good role model.

[ Zelda nods, somewhat absently. That's a fair assessment - or well, it's more a hope, isn't it? Still, she adjusts her hair somewhat -- and in the process some books slip. She starts and catches them, blushing somewhat before sighing.

She really is too tired, isn't she? ]

Oh— [Emmeryn moves like she means to help with the books, but not soon enough that Zelda hasn't got the situation covered. Of course, Togepi doesn't react at all, but Latona trills lightly at the sudden movement until Emmeryn pats her again.]

Here, come sit with me and put those down a moment. [She gestures lightly across the table, then picks her Togepi up and sets him down in her lap.] May I see what you've been reading?

[ Honestly a little bit frustrated from that displace Zelda's reddened face puffs out into something beginning to be a pout before the princess groans and sets down the books. There's about four in hand for her now: one of them is a book on the sinnoh myths, one of them a complicated ecological study tome of some sort, one of them a reference book about Lickitungs, and one of them is a travel guide/information book on Mt. Coronet.

For her part though how Zelda answers, ]

I have been trying to inform myself about more details on the region and the flora and fauna of it.

[Well. This has been a week, and Kayneth hasn't really been out much given that he basically set up shop in the library and has basically been there all week. He super doesn't want to leave, because he's had a Time of things ever since the apocalypse happened, so he'll just... be there pretty much constantly, like he's working on a dissertation. Which... well, it's comforting, in a way. It feels familiar in a way that the rest of this really hasn't been, and after everything that's happened, it's nice to sort of... curl up with a stack of books.

Of course, you know it's gotten to be a problem at this point, given that... erm... you can find his Pokemon (specifically Velasquez and Huginn, as they are the responsible adults of the team) visiting the PokeMart unaccompanied by their trainer and... looking at food and drink? Trying to evaluate what food their trainer would like? Trying to figure out money? Yeah, they're fairly responsible, but this is still a little out of their league...]

[Seeing as Atsushi's been dumbly putting himself on the line for Pokemon-unable-to-fend-for-themselves lately, so when he's visiting the PokeMart to stock up on supplies...he notices the Pokemon huddled together suspiciously with no trainer present.]

...do you guys need some help?

[enjoymyatelier]

[Wellllll.... Velasquez does turn to Atsushi and starts to nod, but Huginn caws a bit indignantly at him, causing a bit of an argument that essentially boils down to NO, WE'RE OUR TRAINER'S MOST TRUSTED POKEMON, WE CAN DO THIS OURSELVES and BUT WE DON'T KNOW HOW ANY OF THIS WORKS... ALL THESE COINS LOOK THE SAME TO ME! which is met by THEY'RE ALL VERY SHINY WHICH MEANS THEY MUST BE ABLE TO BUY MUCH FOOD...

...this goes on for a bit, but eventually they seem to reach a compromise where Velasquez takes half the Pokebucks coins and Huginn somewhat huffily takes the other half to try and figure things out herself. Velasquez then kind of shrugs at Atsushi.... and then nods again.]

[Oh dear...]

If you guys want, if there's something specific you're looking for to buy...I can tell you if you have enough money for it.

[That way they can at least buy the stuff themselves, even if they have to hand over literally all of the coins and make the poor cashier make change with it.]

[Velasquez nods! He's definitely going to be cooperative, and he'll float on over to Atsushi's side.

...Huginn is still being stubborn, but eh. So... Velasquez will float over to the ice cream case and point to it, because what is a convenience store without ice cream?]

[Atsushi follows Velasquez over to the case, putting his hands on his knees as he looks into it.]

Ice cream shouldn't cost too much at all. It depends on how much you're looking to buy.

[...he hopes yall are allowed to do this by the way, he doesn't want to have Kayneth come after him because he accidentally assisted in highway pokerobbery of his money to buy ice cream.]
