Week 14.
WEEK 14 Sunday is a rough day all around; it's for the best that you remain where you are for the day, for the sake of regrouping and recovering, and perhaps getting some sleep - assuming that any will come. However, as difficult though it may be (and as futile though it may seem) Monday is likely best seen as a day to depart - a day to start to take whatever actions can still be taken, and to assess where to go from here. A good place to start is Canalave City; it's where you were going to meet with Cynthia, and where you were planning on looking into the legends of Sinnoh. The city itself is beautiful, a massive port town split down the center by a large canal system filled with boats and clear water leading out to sea; however, the recent changes to the world have affected this place as well, perhaps making it a bit difficult to enjoy the city in its entirety. However, the library is here, as are several other points of interest; as difficult though it may be to see the world like this, the trip here will hopefully be worth your while in the end... POKEMON AVAILABLE: WITHIN CITIES SURROUNDING ROUTES: PLAINS/FOREST / NEAR WATER MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY [OOC: Welcome to week fourteen of Azume; feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget that a write-up is due this weekend!] |

MONDAY
no subject
He'll find the books on the myths eventually, but it's a similar sort of situation. At least until he comes across the Lake Guardians...
By evening, or what Atsushi can only assume is evening by now because it sure doesn't feel like it, he decides to head to the waterside before getting ready to go to bed at the town Center. He's not sure what he's planning to accomplish, here, but he's brought his bag with him as he sits by the canal with Chazuke in his lap. He can see Pokemon down there in the water. Wooper, Shellos, Buizel...all of them swimming aimlessly as if they're just doing it to fulfill some purpose of existing since they can't do anything else. A lot of them don't even do that much, just...there, in the water. Against his better judgement, Atsushi pulls out a couple berries and sets them beside his legs, picking up an oran berry to break up into pieces. He feeds most of it to Chazuke, but also occasionally offers bits to the Pokemon, to which they never even look his way.
Eventually the reality is too much, and Atsushi's left sitting there scrubbing at his eyes, cursing in frustration under his breath as he pulls away from the water a little to sit with his knees bent.
During a time like this, having the emotions to feel empathy aren't all what they're cracked up to be.]
waterside
But Sena absolutely needs to decompress after wandering around the gym, so heading out to watch the water seems like a plan.
Except the water somehow looks unnaturally still, only disturbed by various Pokemon floating in the water. He's not entirely convinced that they're alive.
Sena tosses a pebble into the water just to see if it'll ripple or bounce off like glass, and he's not entirely reassured when the rock splashes in with a sound that may or may not get Atsushi's attention. Vee, on the other hand, has no problem with pawing at the water, still not entirely familiar with her new form. Monta scoffs at her when she does so.]
You shouldn't do that, you'll shock the water. [A pause.] You dumb-dumb. [Vee chooses to stick out her tongue at her monkey companion, defiantly sticking an entire paw in the water.]
Nuh-uh. I'm not gonna- [BZZAP. She sure did just accidentally thundershock the water.
Luckily the only things nearby were some apathetic Wooper who would already have given zero shits normally. Their glassy-eyed smiling expressions just look even more eerie when they're lit up. Her ears flatten at the sight.]
Oops. [Monta rolls his eyes, a told you so clearly on his lips, but the vacantly staring water types creep him out too much to answer.
Whether Atsushi or Chazuke catch the little exchange or not, Portus decides that teleporting next to them is in order, and Sena jogs to catch up, his two bugs hovering around his head like little sentries.]
Oh, uh...sorry...I didn't, er...
[Interrupt anything? It doesn't look like it.]

Maybe, through some mad stroke of luck, she'll find information that can help them defeat Cyrus.
That small hope is dashed fairly quickly, but at least the books on Sinnoh's mythology are interesting and distract her from what is going on in the outside world. As she's wandering the shelves to find something else to read, that's when she spots...]

Nin, I should really get you something new to wear since Shell's got your old ribbon...
[Nin doesn't mind. The ribbon would have gotten in the way of her new wings anyway. She eventually decides on a pink flower barrette.]
Neh, um...Portus? You want something, too?
[The newly dubbed Portus doesn't seem to answer at first. Sena can't tell if he's asleep or just isn't familiar with the name yet. But several minutes later, after Sena has just put his stuff out at the checkout, the Abra teleports out of his arms and then reappears with a small neckerchief.]
A...ah...j...just don't teleport out of the store before I pay...
[There's no change in expression on Portus' face, but somehow it appears to be considering the option.
Later, after Sena's dropped off his new supplies at the Pokemon Center, he wanders around town until he finds the gym. The building somehow looks even more lonely than usual - is it the unnatural stillness in the air? The cold metal constructs inside? He's not sure.
But Sena steps inside with his team, wandering around the first floor.]

[Perhaps it was a little unexpected for him to be in the library for obvious reasons, but as far as he was concerned it would have been a poor decision not to. Besides, if nothing else he expected some of the others might want a sounding board for whatever they might discover. Hemera was back at his side, sticking perhaps much closer than she had in recent weeks.]
[Closer to what he thought must have passed for evening, Ignis decided to investigate the Harbor Inn--abandoned as he could tell it was, some exploration likely wouldn't hurt.]

Long ride, huh? [Michael calls to the nearest person.] Let's have some tunes.
[He pets Quaver a few times and then holds him up a little. The Chatot chirps, shakes out his feathers, and then starts singing a song that Michael taught him a while back. For no specific reason. Just because.
The only songs he knows are Earth ones, but he does take requests.
Upon landing in Canalave, there's only one obvious thing to do. Everything in our journey has been building up to this moment.
Michael. Is going. To the library.
He'll be tucked away in there for most of the day, and he is going to read literally all of these books. Or, well, look at them. Reading all the books is completely within the realm of possibility for a demon, but Michael does have priorities, and he's not eager to waste his time. So of course, he'll start with the mythology stuff, and then maybe hit some relevant-seeming nonfiction.
When he's satisfied with today's reading, he gravitates to the Harbor Inn, mostly because it seems obviously haunted. If no one stops him, he's going to lay out his camping stuff and spend the night there. Cat Janet and Jane Doe are out as well - in another day or so he might have his regular ghost meeting again, but right now it still seems sort of sad.]

It feels like more has happened in the past few hours than in the previous three months.
Thoughts aside, Rey eventually makes it to the Library, where she ends up spending most of the morning and early afternoon. The idea was to try and find a distraction, at least for a little while, but she ends up poring through as many books on Sinnoh's myths as she can find - and if there's one thing she quickly works out about Canalave Library, it's that there are plenty of books on that particular topic. She could be here all week and not make a dent in them.
Rey has no intention of staying on the library all week, however, so in the afternoon she returns to wandering through the city, releasing her four Pokemon from their Pokeballs so they can trot along behind her.
There was a horrible sense of dread in her heart, before she released them; when Rey discovers that they're fine, and haven't been affected by Cyrus' powers (emphasized by Golett doing a cheery bicep curl and Riolu promptly grabbing her leg as soon as he appeared), she can't help but cling to them...and maybe shed a tear or two.
At least she can be sure that her emotions remain completely untouched.]

[Weird, right? Weirder still is that when he resurfaces in the morning(or whatever passes for it) it's outside the inn, Hemera snarling at the building as her trainer swiftly struggles to pull himself together--white as a sheet, hair a little more disheveled than it already was, glasses quickly being put back into place. Kind of looks like he had a minor heart attack and got the FUCK out of dodge in a hurry.]

Which is why her first stop, after dealing with some matters in the Pokemon Center, is the Library; she's got a fuckton of books opened up around her while she pours over the knowledge within them. It's certainly interesting, to say the least; Camilla has never been a studious sort herself, as that was more Leo's field of expertise. But it gave her insight, and it was appreciated, if nothing else.]
"In having found the sword, I have lost so much. Gorged with power, I grew blind to Pokémon being alive. I will never fall savage again. This sword I denounce and forsake..."
[The Veilstone Myth is certainly an interesting read, if nothing else, and it's the one that does give her some form of contemplation.
By the time the afternoon rolls around, she's off toward Route 218; all of her Pokemon are out again, though this time, they're at least advancing as a group. It's certainly odd for some of them to be actively seeking out the listless Pokemon to fight against again; Arion, Altena, Haar, and Beruka seem to have the easiest time of it, and though hesitant, Eda takes to the fighting easily enough. Camilla's commands are issued easily, and her Pokemon respond in kind as they go about taking down Pokemon left and right.
It's actually Melady who seems to have the most problems with this; she's rather noticeably hesitant in following along with Camilla's orders, if mostly because it feels cruel to attack something so...soulless, really. It's something that results in her floating to Camilla with a forlorn expression.]
Melady, dear? You haven't taken any injuries...is something the matter?
[The Drifloon isn't very good at communicating, really, but she does at least show that she doesn't want to fight; it's something that gets a bit of an irritated sigh from Camilla, though she doesn't disparage her partner any.]
...Fall back if you need to, dear.
[It's...very much not as warm as Camilla usually is, which gets the creature's concern. But she doesn't leave her trainer's side, at the very least; that's gotta count for something.
By the time the evening rolls around, Camilla's generally just walking around the City; it's hard to say whether it's because she wants to actually do anything, but her walk is exceedingly restless and she's going back and forth like it's actually accomplishing something. Is she trying to keep some kind of guard? Gods only know, but it simply seems to be the mood tonight. She'll be back in the Pokemon Center to try and sleep tonight, maybe. She's not sure. But none of her partners are out and she's practically ticking with nervous energy.]

He'll spend some time looking up at it, hand shielding his eyes from the sun for a moment before he simply seems to decide, and before he can think about it too long he's halfway up the supports and then it's just a matter of jumping up and climbing the rest of the way, and long story short he can be found sitting up there for a good long while, just hanging out on top of the structure like he's not liable to fall and break his fucking idiot neck from up there. He's there because it's reckless and it's stupid and who knows, maybe he'll fall and get to experience what a broken back is like, and that would suck but at least it would be different, and he hasn't thought like that since Ada offered him money to shoot himself up with medical experiments, has he.
Granted, he can't stay up there forever; if he's not up on top of the bridge (or jumping down a short ways from it to end up on top of Byron's gym, that's also a thing he'll be wandering around on top of for a little while), he can be found in the Center, where he'll likely be staying for the rest of the day. He's still alone, his Pokémon kept up and away in their Pokéballs; it's likely a bit weird, given his usual insistence on physically carrying at least one of them and letting the others do whatever they want, but he hasn't let them out since the whole...Cyrus thing. Maybe he's got his reasons, maybe he doesn't; either way, as night falls (even if time itself still doesn't seem to have budged since that entire fiasco) he doesn't show any indication of settling down to sleep. He'll be up all night again if no one stops him; someone's got to keep an eye on everyone, after all.]

Cynthia will join him eventually, sitting next to him with some books in her lap, letting him look them over individually as though trying to gauge his interest in them (as though trying to see if he has any interest in them at all); bluntly put, there isn't any, but that doesn't seem to stop her from trying, and it takes her a little while to look up and realize that someone else is there.
She definitely does still have her emotions intact, however; that much will become extremely clear when she looks up and notices anyone from the group standing nearby, one of those books sliding out of her lap and falling heavily to the floor (completely failing to pull a reaction out of the man she's with in any way whatsoever on impact). Her hands come up to rest over her mouth, and while she normally doesn't have reactions like this - she normally doesn't allow herself to have reactions like this, not in front of people - she honestly both looks and sounds so relieved she might cry. She'll hold it together for now, but...]
Oh... It's so good to see you, I... Well, I was hoping you would make it here, but...

Whatever. It's fine. That's not a busy area anyway, and today he's setting up the Jane Doe Foundation table again, near where he's observed some of the townspeople aimlessly wandering from time to time. He doesn't stay for long, leaving Quaver and Gaston to man the booth.
Quaver is an old hand at this; at this point, he's almost the treasury secretary of the little group. He sits on the table and sings Backstreet Boys songs to get attention, while Gaston flexes, strikes a few poses, and eventually starts to try dancing to the music. It's...well, it's a thing that's happening.
Meanwhile, Michael spends an hour or so in the library, sitting at a table with several books open around him and more piled nearby. You might think that he's doing something useful, but they all look like cookbooks? Weird.
For a while, he's writing intently in a notebook; later on, he seems to finish whatever that was about and relocates to a chair near whatever passes for the philosophy section of this library. He might not have a teacher to help break these texts down for him, but he's reasonably confident at this point; he can do some solo reading. Maybe later on, he could recreate some of these for Chidi - interdimensional ethics, that's pretty cool.
That evening, he waits around in the lobby of the Pokemon Center, counting the money from the JDF box. There doesn't seem to be much at all; Quaver looks a little put out at the lack of attention, but Gaston hasn't been doing this long enough to realize that it used to be different.
When Michael notices people coming in, he beckons them over.]

He's seen plenty of water Pokemon here that look like fish, but there's one that looks more like a mammal. The Buizel in particular are a Pokemon he figures he'd see going up for air every so often since it doesn't look like they have gills. But as he watches one floating in the water for some time, he realizes that it's been quite a while he's been underwater. Is he so listless he barely thinks to come up for air? That thought sends a jolt of panic through Atsushi, and against any sense of good judgement- knowing that, logically, the Pokemon can probably just hold its breath for a very long time- he rolls up his sleeves and leans far over the edge, trying to reach down deep enough to pull the Pokemon out of the water.]
--W-woaaahh!!
[But the edge is slippery, and coordinated Atsushi is not. That sure is a human-sized cannonball of a splash you probably saw in the distance, there.
Later, a very damp Atsushi can be found at the Pokemon Center after having gotten the Buizel a check up. He's completely healthy and no worse for wear, so it was just Atsushi's mind playing tricks on him. He ends up sitting there for a good while, wondering if he should release him back into the canal or not. Chazuke and Natto try to get his attention as he sits on Atsushi's lap, but the Pokemon just stares straight ahead while very occasionally responding to a loud enough sound. As the Buizel falls asleep in Atsushi's arms, he finds himself holding the Pokemon closer to his chest, just sort of...sitting there with him like this. He'll realize later that releasing him now isn't going to be an option.
Sometime after all of this with all of his Pokemon back in their balls, Atsushi will seek out anyone he can find that doesn't seem busy with something else.]
I need someone to battle with me. I want my Pokemon to be ready for whatever happens next, and...I just don't feel right battling these Pokemon right now.

This morning isn't any different, of course, except that Latona makes a soft cry from across the grass to call Emmeryn over, and marches right up to her instead of waiting. Gravely purposeful, she stares right at Emmeryn and holds out an egg. Kiiiind of. Bewildered, Emmeryn takes it in both hands. Looks at Latona. Looks at the Togepi. Looks at Latona.]
...Yes?
[Latona makes a rumbling noise low in her throat, and...walks away.]
Latona? Latona. [looks at the egg looks at latona SIGHS AND GOES AFTER LATONA, WHO IS UNCARING TO HER TRAINER'S WOE] Latona, where did you find this? You—you cannot just—just take...infants and walk away with them. Latona. Latona! Latona, show me where this came from.
[WHY ARE HER POKÉMON LIKE THIS
Long story somewhat shorter, Emmeryn has a new Pokémon now, apparently, and she brings back the sling she used to carry Latona's egg months ago (and isn't that a strange thought, when Latona stands so tall now; distantly, she remembers when she had to crouch to fasten Chrom's cape, and remembers fretting on the day she realized he was taller than her) to carry her new weird egg friend along close to her chest. In the afternoon, she heads to the library, all her Pokémon but her newest put away just for now. She'll remedy that and find a spot to sit and read outside, but first, she's choosing books, making a small pile on one arm.
She nods in greeting at anyone around, and, if they aren't especially busy:] Good afternoon. Have you been reading much into the local legends?
[Come the evening, Emmeryn settles into the Pokémon Center with just one book from the library set down on her table not too far from where her Togepi sits, staring dully ahead. How...does she take care of this thing..... It's an egg.
Curled up neatly on the ground nearby—she's become quite good at minimizing how much space she takes up—Latona makes a soft rumbling sound, then rises to set her head gently on the table. With a soft little coo, Emmeryn scratches her head between her ears.]
Now, now. Don't you see how far you have come into yourself? This little one will find their heart again before you know it.
[Here they are not a week out from the end of the world, but when Emmeryn says this, she believes it.]

Of course, you know it's gotten to be a problem at this point, given that... erm... you can find his Pokemon (specifically Velasquez and Huginn, as they are the responsible adults of the team) visiting the PokeMart unaccompanied by their trainer and... looking at food and drink? Trying to evaluate what food their trainer would like? Trying to figure out money? Yeah, they're fairly responsible, but this is still a little out of their league...]
