[Mars' chains had faded away as soon as the chains on Palkia had shattered, that unnatural red glow leaving her eyes; she doesn't stumble, to her credit, and seems to be trying to resist the urge to flinch or anything, but she's...not precisely looking too hot, either. Not like she's going to faint or anything, just like she's been through A Lot.

You guys can stay here if you want. Or don't, I don't care enough to insist. But we've got food and beds that probably beat the Center's, at least.

Because I figure you won't freak out over knowing, they came from Starly. Murkrow eggs will work too, but they're not so much stuff that's there to be bought, you just kind of find those since they're everywhere.

[She shrugs.]

Eating Pokémon isn't really a big deal unless you make it one. Saturn is weird about it, and Master Cyrus is weird about it, but that's a personal thing.

Huh. I was picturing something larger.

[Starly's not a huge bird. But Pokemon eggs seem like a weird fucking thing anyway.]

I don't care about eating them in general. Almost ate my Milotic, when he was a Feebas. I just - thought he looked a little diseased. [also pathetic and sad] But the animals where most of us are from aren't as intelligent as Pokemon, and most humans don't slaughter their own meat anymore. I get why the others have feelings about it.

Sometimes I understand the feelings about stuff - a lot of people here don't really like eating stuff they've raised. If they have a Gyarados, they're probably not going to be too crazy about eating Magikarp if they raised one by hand, you know? That makes sense, I guess.

The most people will really get on you about here is if you're wasteful about it. That's a massive "no." You use everything you can or you don't kill anything at all.

Not a priority on my Earth, lotta the time.

But no, I understand not eating things you raised. I do now, anyway. This whole thing has really been my first experience with animals, so it took me a little while to see why humans like them.

Well, if they're stupid where you came from, I don't really get what the point is in keeping them.

People think they're cute. And some of them are smarter than others - dogs, maybe? They're sort of like normal-type Growlithe.

But no, you're right. I wouldn't bother keeping them, either. [Michael flashes back to every single thing he's ever said about humans.] Probably.

They're supposed to be companions and stuff, too. They can't do that too well if they're stupid.

Mine are more like business partners and stuff, but I also just think they're pretty cool. I have a Golbat, too, and there's nothing about those that isn't great.

They're supposedly devoted. It's like having a very stupid baby that loves you a lot and jumps up and down when you come home.

[He is not the right person to sell dogs as a concept...]

I like Golbat's mouth. Just - [He gestures.] - this yawning, gaping void. Might've gone after one if I didn't already have a bird.

I like watching them feed. It's brutal.

She's almost as tall as I am, and she drinks blood. From people.

No, she leaves them alive. She actually can't consume that much, it's only about a unit. So you don't get death, just several very, very long moments of terror while you give a really unwilling blood donation to something the size of a grown person.

That's hilarious! Oh, I shouldn't laugh.

[He'll settle himself down, because while he isn't a good enough person to not think that's funny, he at least recognizes that maybe it's not the greatest thing to be entertained by.]

Why's she still unevolved, after all this time? Is it one of the ones that takes an item? [He genuinely does not seem to know about the friendship mechanic.]

Oh, that. No, it's a happiness thing. One of those things that's based on how close you are to them.

I'm okay with her the way she is. Master Cyrus has an evolved one, though.

Yeah, my Haunter isn't keen on evolving either. I'm not sure if it's the evolution itself that bothers her, or the trading part. I've heard that some Pokemon aren't fond of that.

What, does she think you're trying to give her away or something?

I clearly explained what I wanted to do!

[Although his tone makes it really clear that he has had to defend what he said multiple times already. So maybe he is the only person who thinks it was acceptable!]

Anyway, I like Jane. What would I give her away now for?

Hey, I never said that was what you were trying to do. I agree with you, actually.

[I mean, you clearly like the thing?]

...sorry. I've had that talk a few times.

[He grumbles it a little, but yeah he kinda did snap there.]

I mean, I've only seen Gengar in pictures, but Haunter does look cooler. I just figured, why not? Makes them stronger and everything.

Sometimes they just don't want to, I guess. It took Bronzor forever to decide it wanted to evolve.

Oh, yeah? That one's a pretty big change, I guess. My Purrloin was the first Pokemon to evolve in our group, and she basically just got bigger. Didn't really prep us for how weird it could get.

[Though as far as physical changes go:]

I remember being kinda excited when I got this human body. It's a downgrade for us, and a lot of it is gross, but I dunno. [He grins.] It was just so new and interesting!

According to the legends, we used to be Pokémon, too. I don't know what changed, but for a while there weren't really any differences between us, apparently.
