azume | Week 3.

WEEK 3

The past weekend has given people a lot to take in, and a lot to think about.

You're permitted to stay at the resort all day on Sunday, should you so choose; relax and replenish yourselves with regards to sleep at least, seeing as it's much more comfortable than the routes or sleeping on the floor of the Pokémon Center. Commander Saturn is gone as of last night, and no one seems to be coming after you - though there is likely something you'll be aware of by the end of the day...

Whatever happens, it's evident that you'll have to leave this place eventually, and Monday should find everyone back on Route 213. It's been repeatedly recommended to move toward Pastoria City; whether you believe the source of said urging to be trustworthy or not, it's still a good idea to move in that direction - a city means supplies, after all, a place to restock and spend a few days.

Everyone should be able to find Pastoria City by Tuesday afternoon; it's another unfamiliar place, with various things to see and look at over the course of the next few days. It's far smaller than Veilstone, but it borders up to the ocean by way of a small jetty on the southeastern side of town with a few boats moored to it. Otherwise, it's surrounded by forest, and the main path winds its way lazily through town, weaving between personal residences and a few places of business.

Of course, it's still not nearly as lively as it should be; the inhabitants here all seem as devoid of spirit as everywhere else; fortunately, a select few of your companions do seem to be perking up a bit - perhaps that's a good sign, in the end.

I don't usually have a lot of time to; I don't exactly spend time in the safest areas.

[Bucky nods.]

I spent two years not sure when I was going to have to leave in a hurry. I kept everything important in a backpack.

If you can't have it ready to go in less than ten minutes, it's not coming with you. I get it.

Yeah.

I get the feeling things were a lot less intense here before the entire world's population got punched in the brain.

Yeah, I've been getting that feeling, too. That just kinda makes me wonder what the hell Cyrus' damage is, though, if he thought it was bad enough that this is preferable.

Who knows.

It sounds like people around here take their legends seriously.

At least Team Galactic does. And Cynthia, apparently.

I get the feeling it's important to these folks.

Though I guess it's not like we could expect an honest answer from anyone else.

[...Hmm.]

I mean, Cynthia was also talking about how we should do certain stuff if we have to eat the Pokemon, and even Saturn was talking about not trying to use weapons on them and he didn't seem to want to eat them at all, judging by last night.

They're pretty into rituals and principles that come out of those legends, if nothing else. So yeah, I see what you mean.

[Bucky makes a face at the mention of Cynthia's comment about eating Pokemon.]

Yeah. It makes em want to learn about the history of this place.

Do you think their legends are true, or just nice stories?

Probably a bit of both. Legends are just the truth embellished over time.

I guess that makes sense. It's not like I really know too many, outside of standard mythology shit.

Admittedly, it's not like you can really tell much about the really old ones, other than crap like, "this legendary hero probably existed at some point in time." Seeing people romanticize my unit was surreal enough, and it's not like centuries passed between then and now.

[He laughs.]

Kinda wish my buddy was here, you could probably tell you all about mythology. It never really interested me.

Jesus, I can just imagine. Tell me a bit about this buddy of yours, though. I'm curious.

He's an artist.

[Because of course that's the first thing to talk about when it comes to Steve Rogers.]

He was sick as a kid, really sick. He had a lot wrong with him, but he was always acting like a guy twice his size. I told him he should just take the 4F and be grateful-- not a chance of him getting killed.

[He pauses.]

4F is the designation saying you're too sick for military service, in America. When I got shipped out, I think he was jealous, desperate. He managed to convince somebody to let him into the military, anyway. I don't know the full story-- something about a pretty woman and scientist seeing him having potential. He was given this serum that made him super strong.

The first thing he did upon ending up in Europe as part of the USO was leave the base to rescue me from a POW camp.

By himself.

[Jake Muller is not impressed by much.

Judging by the low whistle he lets out at that one, he is impressed with Steve Rogers.]

Holy shit. What a badass.

[Bucky nods, looking proud as hell.]

Yeah. He did it, too. Rescued everyone from the camp. The Nazis had goddamn rayguns and he rescued us without fear.

He seems like the kind of guy that would have found a way even without all the serum and shit.

[He knows a couple people like that now; people like that are pretty awesome, even if he does like some of them decidedly more than others on a personal level.]

Honestly?

I absolutely believe that. He isn't the sort of man to give up. Hell, he fought tooth and nail for me, no less than half a dozen times. It's kind of embarrassing, having a guy save you that often.

Isn't it just. It's usually this cute girl I know saving my ass somehow, and I'm not sure if that's more or less embarrassing. On the one hand, cute girl? On the other, cute girl.

[Oh god, don't compare Steve to a girl, he's too sexually repressed for this.]

I'm still not used to it. But it's kind of a nice feeling.

He pulled me out of a helicopter once. While it was in the air.

It probably goes without saying that you need to keep this guy.
