WEEK 11

The meeting with Mars could have gone infinitely worse. It's difficult to say that it went well, admittedly, but at least it didn't go as poorly as it could have; either way, her departure leaves you free to look around the Valley Windworks, and it shouldn't take you long at all to find something interesting on the floor.

It's bright yellow and glowing, set into the ground like any other normal part of the floor otherwise; stepping on it will cause the world to spin briefly in your field of vision, and when it straightens itself out again, you find yourself standing in the corner of the lobby of a large building you've never seen before.

Welcome to the Jubilife TV station.

The place seems staffed with Galactic grunts, but they leave you alone outside of just watching you in that dead-eyed, vaguely unnerving way they have of watching everything; they'll let you leave without a fuss at any rate, and it's probably for the best that you get yourself situated for the time being. After all, you've got an entire new city to get accustomed to.

The people here seem to be trying to get themselves situated as well, though obviously that's for entirely different reasons. The world continues to change, around them and you both, and overall things do seem to be going in a direction that might be considered favorable. Noticeably, the grunts in the TV station don't seem to be changing at all, regardless of what happens to the other locals; that might be cause for some concern...

Yeah, could be. The closest we had were sandworms, and you couldn't really reason with those.

Sandworms...? That sounds pretty scary...

[Says the boy with a giant isopod as his best friend currently.]

Oh, we had sonic towers to keep 'em away from the settlements and roads! It did get scary this one time I was in a place that got swarmed by 'em 'cause Mister turned the towers off, though... even if it did bail us all out of something worse. One of those things, I guess, thinking about it.

[Atsushi would say that at least his world doesn't have anything like that, but...honestly he thinks there are gifted people capable of way worse either way.]

I guess getting used to the Pokemon here was a little strange because of all of that going on, then.

Yeah... You mentioned your world had people who can do the stuff Pokémon can. How's that even work?

Um...I wish I could explain it, but it's not something that's out of the ordinary. It's just how things are...not everyone is born gifted, but those who are usually figure it out pretty quickly.

And the things people can do aren't strictly like the way Pokemon moves work, either. They can be pretty unpredictable.

So you know you're gifted just like that? I'm kinda imagining babies setting things on fire.

I mean, I wouldn't really know to be honest. I spent a lot of my life isolated from gifted people...at least until pretty recently. Now it feels like every other person has some sort of power I've never seen before.

Kinda like blowing open a big secret, huh? Then the whole world looks different.

In a way it is, yeah. It's a little strange, then, being here...there isn't as much stuff going on as there was back home, yet things are even more confusing than they used to be.

Guess that's what a whole new universe does to you.

You think that's really what this place is? A whole new universe?

Supposedly, anyway. I've never heard of a planet like it.

I guess it'd be strange to call it earth...it's not like Pokemon are a normal thing from home for me, so it wouldn't explain where they've been all this time.

Your planet's seriously just called Earth? Isn't that just like calling it Rock or Dirt or something? Then again, I guess I can't really talk, since they named a desert planet Sandvil.

Yeah...?

I mean, I figure that's why dirt is called earth sometimes. Because it...comes from the earth?

Maybe, but isn't it still dirt no matter what planet it's from?

I guess so...unless the planet is made of something else. Like just gas, or something.

[But obviously you wouldn't call that earth.]

Yeah, there's a ton of those. Usually not inhabited, though, or if they are, it's by colonies built around 'em.

[Hm. It's interesting she'd say that specifically.]

So there are like...multiple colonizes planets in your world?

Yeah, a whole galaxy's worth. Kinda weird to me that it's not the same for everybody else.

I think people have been entertaining colonizing the moon someday, or mars...but the only planet with people on it that we know of is earth. Space travel hasn't gotten that advanced yet.

Sounds like what a bunch of the others said, too. It feels totally off being the odd one out on this. Guess at least travel's gotta be fast for you, less ground to cover.

Well yeah, there is that at least...I mean, I'd never been outside of Japan back home. There's a whole lot of world I haven't seen before.

[And he's not entirely sure he'll ever see it? Which is a bit sad, but...he's fortunate to be alive still if nothing else.]

...We'll get back to our homes. I mean, Team Galactic has the stuff they brought us here with, right?
